I can’t speak for this specific instance but from working retail if you habitually add or make something based off a person’s race even if its describing them a good majority of people will be offended by the The Rookie Fanart Unisex Shirt in other words I will buy this statement, Really wish I could change that but you just need to make a effort to not say anything about skin color or race. I was at work and a guy came in asking for my manager, he wasn’t there so I asked if I could take a message but he didn’t want to leave one, I asked his name so I could tell my manager he had been but he wouldn’t leave it. When my manager came back I told him someone had been to see him and he asked who, I explained that they wouldn’t say. He asked what they looked like. I paused and said he was a tall slim coloured guy. My manager instantly knew who I meant and told me off for being racist. I got a lecture on how insulting it is to be called coloured when you are black. I had always been told the other way around. So now I’m to afraid to mention skin colour because I don’t want to offend anyone. I felt awful but I meant absolutely no harm or offence and that was clearly obvious. I will literally describe a person but not mention skin colour or ethnicity because it’s way to much of a mine field and I hate offending people. I’m one of those people that manages to put my foot in it and then dig a deeper hole for my self when I try to explain what I meant!!!

Describing someone by their race isn’t inherently racist. When I was younger I had a friend who would preface describing someone’s race as “not to be racist” and internally I would roll my eyes because I didn’t view it as racist to state someone’s race. I wrote a whole long essay about my opinion on this and why I feel that way, but my opinion boils down to this: as a Métis person, I don’t think it’s racist.
