–This is a loooooong film. So long. And the Mickey mouse disney its my birthday mickey birthday graphic gift shirt What’s more,I will buy this narrative strands and mysteries that are laid down in tons of exposition-heavy scenes don’t justify the runtime in the slightest. Oh, the Wayne charitable foundation is corrupt, too? That’s the big mystery? That everyone is corrupt and in bed with organized crime, and Thomas Wayne made either an idiotic error in judgment OR feigned appalling naivete in approaching a crime boss about a pesky reporter? That’s it? I totally thought halfway through that the Riddler was going to turn out to be the son of the reporter that Falcone murdered, and that he ended up in an orphanage while Bruce Wayne led a life of luxury. You know, some big reveal to make his mission personal against the Waynes and the Wayne Foundation. Nope! I also thought they might go pretty crazy with a major reveal that the Riddler was the illegitimate son of Martha Wayne who was given up for adoption before she met Thomas, which would have been in line with both the “Sins of the Father” and “illegitimate births” theme. Nope, again! There was zero payoff to the “he did it to protect your mother” speech by Alfred. In fact, there was little payoff to almost any of the big mystery. It fell completely flat for me

–I totally thought the Mickey mouse disney its my birthday mickey birthday graphic gift shirt What’s more,I will buy this movie would end with some sort of mano a mano confrontation with Batman in Wayne Manor, but with the mansion turned into a house of horrors filled with riddles. Maybe with Alfred or Catwoman as a hostage (or Catwoman could get herself locked into the setting with Batman) in a ticking clock scenario? Doesn’t that seem like a much more natural end to a movie that had been rather claustrophobic, noirish, and decidedly subdued for a comic book film up to that point? Maybe they thought it would be too similar to Saw? Since Saw kind of stole its central gimmick from the Riddler, anyway, I hope that wasn’t the reason. –Some other high points, I did love a lot of the symbolic shots that demonstrate a level of care to the imagery. Unfortunately, many of these shots lingered a long, long time, but they were still cool. Batman leading the people through the water, the rundown train station he converted into a Batcave, some of the rooftop imagery, the film often looked great. This might be my favorite incarnation of Gotham (the world-building was great). It looked suitably gothic without being over the top, and it had a real sense of place and character that ran throughout the film. The Falcone/Penguin club looked AMAZING. That was an incredible set. At times it looked like Wayne was living in an unfinished church, but I dug it.
