–In terms of tone, the Mickey mouse let’s party cute birthday disney gift shirt and by the same token and film could have benefited from an R rating. We’ve got a Saw/Zodiac/Se7en vibe to this variant of the Riddler, we’ve got some pretty adult situations, and we’ve got moments of violence that are oddly shot/truncated due to the need to maintain a PG-13 rating. I would have been fine with cutting the budget and just making it R, and I think the movie would have been better for it. –Falcone and Marone are too phonetically similar sounding in a film in which one of them basically doesn’t appear as a character. My kids tugged on my sleeve to clarify if they were two separate people at one point. –Pattinson does a solid job. Best Batvoice by a mile, IMHO. He could have put on a bit of muscle, but otherwise I was pretty pleased with his performance. Great BatCar, and the chase scene was FANTASTIC with outstanding sound design, but it’s a fucking pity that they completely ruined the finale of the chase by putting the entire thing in the trailer. –The narration and use of dates reminded me of The Long Halloween, but then they dropped that device until the very end of the movie. Weird. Probably could have just lost those if it wasn’t going to be consistent throughout the film. Also, does anyone in the world need a narration from Batman about why he’s Batman and what he wants to accomplish? Everybody on fucking Earth knows all about him.

–I was shocked by how many fundamental problems I had with a lot of the Mickey mouse let’s party cute birthday disney gift shirt and by the same token and BatAction in this. Batman is clever, he is tactical, and he is smart in how he approaches situations. How many times does Batman stand upright and just wade into the middle of armed foes in a brightly lit area? Seemingly every 15 minutes. Thankfully they never aim for his face and his suit is absolutely impervious to everything, because its rare that he uses any semblance of strategy. When he hides in the elevator, I was like “thank Cthulhu he’s FINALLY using some fucking stealth.” –I didn’t like the final battle with random goons, either. First, I’ve never really liked the “random henchpeople are available on the internet” conceit, and second it just felt out of touch with the preceding two and a half hours. Batman battles random goons while the actual villain of the movie is locked up offscreen? What? I honestly don’t understand how a film that spent this much time on plotting and thematic resonance managed to botch the final confrontation this badly. Yeah, watching Batman swoop in and beat up random gimp-suited idiots is always fun, but c’mon, they could have found something more fitting for a finale.
