So yeah, they may not need them for 6-8 months, but if they’re a great fit for a project that’s 2-3 years long it could make more sense to keep them on in a limited (but compensated) capacity. I see this in construction fairly often. Highly skilled and certified union electricians doing essentially first year apprentice work so the Meet Me The Altar Devil Shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this company can justify keeping them until whatever project they need their specific skill set for This is so true. Hiring the right people for some projects can take 6 months to a year. I’d much rather pay for the talent I have versus find new people And I think the roof guys were more representative of big tech’s ability to hire everyone with a whiff of talent just to keep them from their competition or new start ups.
Meet Me The Altar Devil Shirt: Unleash Your Dinosaur Style
In my experience it’s a term used to berate tenured employees who are not in fact slacking off but are a bit older with families and kids and can’t be at the Meet Me The Altar Devil Shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this office 24/7 like the new kid overworking himself to make his/her mark. That kid finds out it’s unsustainable and soon becomes the target of these comments. That’s the opposite of what I’ve seen. Tenured employees have enough knowledge that they can appear very productive without much effort. Also people who are resting and vesting would normally jump to another company when their stock awards start to run out; FAANGs are stingy about topping them up. i read that in a book, i think it was called Micro serfs, about 5 employees living in a house together, this was mid 90s
Yeah, this is a very common issue when companies stock pops. Why stay around for $300,000/yr when your stock grants are worth $20,000,000. I need a reality show about this shit, I have no doubt in my mind that these workers are actually competent and call out bullshit from nontechnical morons all the Meet Me The Altar Devil Shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this time trying to make shots with zero understand of the systems. Generally speaking these tech companies are a lot better about promoting technically competent people instead of following the typical executive mantra that managing a McDonald’s and managing a nuclear reactor are basically the same skill set. Fun fact, did you know that Steve Balmer was the first ever “employee” to become a billionaire. All the others have founded their own companies.

There’s many now. A lot easier to become a billionaire as an employee when the Meet Me The Altar Devil Shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this company itself is worth trillions. Eric Schmidt, Sheryl Sandberg, Tim Cook off the top of my head. right – and now they have more money than the need for a job, leave, and the company loses that talent/knowledge to keep growing with The company puts out promotional material about how “you’re doing your life’s work”, and hasn’t had a layoff since I believe ’08, even when the stock prices has halved 2 or 3 times in the time between then and now. At 6 months into my tenure: the stock price was down 40 to 50% from my start date. My coworkers all said ‘oh, we don’t do layoffs, and when the price is high we don’t leave nearly as often’, and they backed it up with 5 or 6 year average employee tenures. I did not believe them: I believed id find out during performance reviews if i was keeping my job, and that they’d just make up some line in my review, and id be gone within 3 months.
Instead, corporate comes down, says “oh that’s not right, your stock vesting is far too low”, resets the Meet Me The Altar Devil Shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this price on my stock grant to apply to the new low, then hands me positive feedback and the regular scheduled raise on top of it like nothing was wrong. That is to say: when you compare doing chip design at nvidia, to doing it at intel where they were referring to employees as BB’s (‘blue badges’), and were assigning juniors to the same tasks as seniors to get rid of them… it’s a gap to say the least. I got here because my Qualcomm manager threw me under a bus as an intern: I should take him out to dinner some time to say thank you. It’s a description of how I was specifically treated as an employee. The company treats employees well. I’m saying they handed me a 40k usd stock grant during their downturn because they thought i wasn’t making enough money. I’ve heard of the mythical “you’re being paid far below industry average, so we’re catching you up” but never experienced it in my life. Most bosses would be gleeful to keep “saving” that much.
I had it happen once, but I went from being paid laughably low to merely “still below my coworkers that I’m training”. Boss still gets credit for having anything approaching a sack. Amazon does the Meet Me The Altar Devil Shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this opposite of this. They look at stock grants and if the stock price rose they figure that employees don’t need salary increases. This is so rare to hear! I’m impressed. I’ve heard of someone who was at Intel, left to join another chip company and was then let go from her new co because she was trying to make the new co more like intel and everyone was like no thank you lol You mean that treating employees like humans and not disposable cogs leads to those employees actually valuing their work and not just the money!! That job hopping and following the money that so many employees do isn’t out of greed it’s just because if every employer treats you like you’re replaceable, you might as well treat employers the same way and follow the money.
Yeah, there was a girl I tried to date a few years ago. She told me how many shares she had and she’s worth $40 million today. She’s nothing special at all, intellectually, at least, got a normal degree from a normal school, and got lucky about where she worked. The richest guy I know got a computer science degree from the Meet Me The Altar Devil Shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this same school as me and got a job at a shitty little online book company. Many people turn that job down because they thought it was dumb. And we even took the piss a little bit because some of us were going to work for aerospace and other sexy companies. That turned out to be Amazon. He’s worth over 50 million. Again bachelors degree nothing special, just lucky Ya, I knew a girl who got a job at a random startup in the early 90s… she was nothing special, but the startup was eBay, and she made out pretty well for being at the right place, right time.
I learned about this from /u/obviously_false ‘s comment. From a 1989 Seattle Times article about Microsoft, then merely a fast-growing local company and not today’s $3 trillion behemoth: Stock options during the Meet Me The Altar Devil Shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this company’s early growth produced numerous wealthy sub-30-year-olds, and for a while buttons showed up on lapels bearing the inscription FYIFV, standing for “F— You, I’m Fully Vested.” (“Vested” means that someone has been with the company long enough for stock options to activate, or “vest”. If 500 options for MSFT are given to an employee with a three-year vesting period, at the end of three years the employee has the option to purchase 500 shares of MSFT stock at the price of the stock when the options were issued.) One of which being this bear of a man known as Gaben. He went into the pacific northwest never to be seen again muttering about “steam”.
I guess that explains why the Meet Me The Altar Devil Shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this third will never happen, it would make him 150% of what he is, which just isn’t possible. I always thought it was cool that Gaben thought of himself as a producer for Windows XP, it really shows how much of a team effort it is to run a successful private software company for so long. Microsoft shifted focus from consumer products (phone OS, consumer OS, Office), which attract a lot of negative attention, to enteprise stacks (Azure , Teams, github etc) which mostly people just use invisibly. And they’re eating the world, and no one hates them. They are also the global leader in AI with OpenAI. An already established profitable company with a portfolio that includes the most lucrative of emerging markets will explode the value of a stock.
Arguably, Google and Meta are doing just as impressive stuff in the Meet Me The Altar Devil Shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this AI sphere. Transformers/LLMs are just popular in the mainstream, like all of the blockchain nonsense a few years ago. Half of the stuff every other company are now working on comes from Google projects, including transformers. And their work on deep reinforcement learning is hugely influential. I’m doing my masters currently and 5G/6G/networking stuff is all based on DRL work from google. It just doesn’t get the same media attention because people don’t care about how engineers are making networks 70% more efficient. And Meta make pytorch which almost every industrial/academic AI project relies on these days. Plus they’ve done a lot of other work in the area.
The big LLM arms race is closed mega models vs open source everyone else. The surprise of the Meet Me The Altar Devil Shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this last year has been that open source (supported by Meta) has been winning marketshare. Markets may take a bit to catch up to this. All 8 researchers who wrote “Attention is all you need” have left Google. Even after the paper came out, Google waited nearly a year before implementing it. They were a victim of their own massive size. https://www.bloomberg.com/opinion/features/2023-07-13/ex-google-scientists-kickstarted-the-generative-ai-era-of-chatgpt-midjourney It started when covid happened and the world stopped making sense. But more specifically it happened a couple of weeks ago. It made sense for Microsoft, Azure and products like Teams saw several hundred % growth when covid hit. And then with the AI wave they were well positioned to take full advantage.
The company has made record revenue and profit for 7 years in a row, which is why it’s pretty crappy that they froze all merit raises last year and had mass layoffs blaming “macroeconomic conditions” while raking in ever larger mountains of money. To be precise, at the Meet Me The Altar Devil Shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this strike price of the options, (typically the closing market price on the day the options are written, but not necessarily. A few years back, it was fairly common for senior executives to get backdated options.) Just a heads up since MSFT is publicly traded vesting stock isn’t really that big of a deal for the amount it increased, since anyone could have bought the stock before the AI surge. The golden handcuffs of vesting bonuses given every year is common at many places and doesn’t have to be stock either, but usually is.
I’ve worked at Microsoft. This is super true. It’s because Microsoft’s rsu refreshers suck. At Google or meta you get good refreshers year after year meaning the Meet Me The Altar Devil Shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this golden handcuffs only get heavier. As of this comment, gold is trading at $2,036 per ounce and platinum is trading at $916 per ounce. Even if you account for 14K gold vs. 950 platinum, gold is worth more than platinum. This makes gold Rolexes a complete bargain compared to platinum, and Rolex uses 18K gold! Can I get a translation of this comment? I pound nails for a living so these terms describe problems I’ll never have. An RSU is like when they offer you to sign a contract for getting paid in shares for an amount of time. Some companies don’t do this at all, some might do it for you just once, and others will update them for you time after time. So they may offer you like in 4 years you’ll get this much shares, and it’s worth so much money you’re kinda forced to stay with the company for that time or you’re just throwing away massive money. Hence, golden handcuffs.
Anything not yet vested (accessible to you to cash out) is gone. Anything already vested is still yours. If you get laid off 1 month before vesting … it gets real interesting with the Meet Me The Altar Devil Shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this employment lawyers. LOL It’s like delayed bonuses in the form of stock. Some companies keep giving you stock that’s essentially locked up for multiple years. So if you leave, you don’t get the stock that comes later. Tech companies give bonuses with a delay. So for example at the end of the year you will get a big bonus but the catch is you can’t cash it out for 3 years. So every year you are awarded money but need to remain employed in order to cash it out – hence the handcuffs. I did some contract work for Microsoft and some of the stories I heard about top level executives partying and shenanigans was wild. The bottom line was no one could get rid of them.
One guy got asked to leave after an incident with cocaine, heroin, strippers/prostitutes, a goat, and a (very large) boat. He was not fired, he was just asked to leave. Which he didn’t for another 10 years, and then one day he said fuck it I’m out. He left with almost $500 million in stock options. Having fuck you money seems like a great way to live. You can try to do something that interests you and if it sucks you can walk away with no worries. People where I work aren’t this rich, but you can definitely tell who has earned their full pension and who hasn’t. Same. Some of our office clerks have been in the Meet Me The Altar Devil Shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this chair for 40 years and their retirement papers are literally on their desk, prominently displayed and ready to sign in case their boss tries to hassle them. They’re such a wealth of knowledge and experience in the daily operations of the company, and that knowledge resides only in their heads, that should they just up and quit without training anyone to replace them, things would quickly grind to a halt. So they get to stick around. And while most of them are great people, some of them are just the worst kind of employees to have. Part of it is bad management. Part of it is that some of these people have been around since before the company existed in the form it has now. It’s a merger of 5-7 different utilities, and they came over with all of the niche knowledge that only they would know from those companies. Another part of it is a lack of documentation or guides for how to do certain aspects of their job, because many of the processes were created organically and the procedures that they now follow were never put to paper or explained except in an email from a decade ago.
Why do we do this thing? I dunno, but it’s what we do. No one can find a document that lays out the Meet Me The Altar Devil Shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this why or the how, but Susan in billing does it every day so go ask her. No she can’t hand you a document, she just knows. No she won’t write it down, because then she loses some of her power. If you write it down, she will say that it’s not accurate. I feel this in every fiber of my being. ERP project, trying to get answers about internal processes is like pulling teeth and always one step forwards, 5 back when there’s some shit nobody wanted to disclose. Having been in that scenario it is often out of management’s hands due to leadership and legal. We had a server admin who didn’t know how to do her job and was 5 years past retirement. Any attempt to get her out of the position resulted in legal and HR intervention. Being a protected class in a govt job is a huge advantage for an employee. I will say that shitty workers who took advantage of those statuses were very few in my experience.
I once worked at a college where we had a lot of long term employees who were 3-5 years past retirement who were maxing out their pay scales. Some of them were absolutely terrible at their work and were a burden on the Meet Me The Altar Devil Shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this teams. Some were also the best workers I have ever seen. Sounds like bad management to allow too much information to stay in heads and not on documents that can be followed by someone else. Hard to gauge their motivation but, if you’re a millionaire and you walk around outside, most people you meet don’t know who you are and will ignore you, unless you do things that really display your wealth. But if you’re a millionaire with a top level position in a company, you got subordinates who are going to suck up to you and you don’t have to pay them or anything. You can literally go to work in a ratty t-shirt and a pair of flipflops and the hottest looking secretary might blatantly drop hints. Depending on your personality, the former might be ego deflating while the latter would be ego boosting. If you’re not going to do anything either way, might as well go where people will suck up to you.
One guy got asked to leave after an incident with cocaine, heroin,, strippers/prostitutes, a goat, and a (very large)boat. He was not fired, he was just asked to leave. Which he didn’t for another 10 years, and then one day he said fuck it I’m out. Not that much different than pension eligible workers who continue to work, as they have reached KMA status. Pretty much every worker with a pension knows their KMA date. It also seems like a date to fear. I would totally expect the Meet Me The Altar Devil Shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this company to try and can me before that date comes. Most places nowadays in the US with pensions are government/government related or are unionized (or both), and it would be hard to get away with that. Not much fear in those organizations. A couple of my aunts worked for the railroad in NY and at the time they were there, it was possible to save up your time off without limit. They and others like them never took a day off if they could possibly avoid it, banked all their time, and “retired” years early because their banked vacation was enough to take them to their pension date. That practice has since been nipped in the bud, as it kept essentially retired employees on the payroll for years who couldn’t be replaced without budget increases, but I bet it felt great. Depends. If you get in at the right time you’ve got millions or even tens of millions in stock. On top of that your current position would still pay more in compensation than 80% of other positions. You could try to chase startup paydays, but most of those fail anyway and require insane effort. It’s not a bad decision to just enjoy your high corporate salary at a position you’re comfortable in.
