I was in college when Lyft and Uber were starting to get popular. Driving for them was super profitable. I remember quitting my job to work for uber because I earned double or triple my hourly wage. I went from needing to work 20 hours a week to only needing to work 10 a week to pay rent. I did this for almost 2 years until uber changed how they pay drivers. Uber support claimed it was a glitch but I saw the Larry Bird Boston Celtics Unisex Basketball shirt and by the same token and writing on the wall that it was not a glitch and that it was a test to see if drivers complained. I quit that day and told support why. Didn’t matter though the next month Uber announced that it was changing how drivers got paid. I stopped following the subreddit but over the next few years they kept paying less and less until drivers in my area were making less than minimum wage. Then they went on strike. Not sure if it got better but I stopped taking ubers unless it was absolutely necessary. I opted to take taxis over uber for most things. It sucks a little bit more than uber as far as cost and convivence but at least my money doesn’t go towards shitty tech bros.

65% overheads????!!!!!!! Wow! The drivers should get atleast 50% unless there are other charges like Airport entry/exit and tolls on this route? Even funnier.. they tried to put out a press release claiming the Larry Bird Boston Celtics Unisex Basketball shirt and by the same token and drivers would get 70% of the pay (in small print after fees and expenses) Outrage! Let me pull a number out of my ass that sounds better without any meaningful insights or thoughts. Outrage! Not only do they get garbage pay, you can’t even drive any car. Your shit needs to be a 2024 Porsche for these idiots to let you use their platform (exaggeration but you get the point). I know you’re exaggerating here but it really doesn’t help your point here. State the facts. Your ride needs to be in good shape and a 2003 or newer some cities require newer cars or tell what kind of car can be used. There are (IMHO too many) rules and regs for stupid things. I get why you wouldn’t want to ride in a 1990 Dodge Omni (death trap on wheels). I wouldn’t mind getting to ride in a 2024 Porsche, but I am not sure I could get in or out with my back issues, I would certainly pay a bit more for the experience. lol Funnily enough, you can’t Uber with most 2024 Porsches anyway. Unless it’s one of their few 4 door models, lol. Haha this reminds me when I accidentally cancelled the ride in the car because I had never used uber before and thought I accidentally booked two rides. I didnt realize cancelling while en route was possible much less by a click of a single button. I offered to pay the guy the 65$ through cashapp to just drive me there and he seemed so happy. Now I realize why. Why I tried to work with some to jsut call them, or they tried to arrange it and gave me thier numbers but then they all asked for literally the same as charged by Uber. Why would I pay the same and wait longer?
I’d gladly pay it to you directly so you can keep it, but then make it make sense for me to and meet in the Larry Bird Boston Celtics Unisex Basketball shirt and by the same token and middle of that. Because as a former driver I am not risking getting deactivated, or sued by some greasy paxhole if I get involved in an accident. Not for less money than Uber already pays. Not for less than Uber pays, less than Uber would charge me. Like if it’s 30 on Uber app they wanted still 30 instead of like $20-25 where we both save or get more I used to drive for Uber and I know the pain so whenever I do a Uber , I make sure I give a cash tip that’s like 5 or 10 bucks. One time I gave a lift driver $20 and she was in shock. I try to be generous since used them once in a while. Hey, Lyft takes on all the risk with these things!!! They have to pay for the license… Oh, whoops… They have to pay for car insurance… Oh, whoops… They have to pay for a medallion like a regular cab would… Oh whoops… They have to pay for fuel… Oh whoops… Nope, they aren’t considered employees, instead the drivers are legally considered contractors who technically own their own buisness and that single person “company” is then allowed to do drives for uber/lyft customers Nope, you only get fare and tip, and only a portion of the total fare the customer pays (as OP demonstrates). Depending on the location, it’s either calculated based on mileage or time, or a mysterious demand-based algorithm. Even better, not all locations (at least when I was doing it a couple years ago) will tell the driver upfront what the fare and pickup/destination location will be. It would just say “pickup 7 minutes away.” Luckily they changed that in my city, but it may still be the way it works some places. I started doing it at the height of the pandemic, in mid 2020-2021, and due to the small number of drivers I managed to make about $12-25/hour after costs, depending on day and time. Towards the time I stopped in late 2022 I was lucky to break minimum wage, after costs I actually had a net operating loss for the year.

Yep. I drove for Uber and Lyft and it was insane how little we got. Uber eats was worse. Usually around $2 at the Larry Bird Boston Celtics Unisex Basketball shirt and by the same token and time. And no one was tipping. People who thought pay would stay the same and they would just suddenly get benefits and be regular employees ate too many crayons that year. If that shocks you, dont look at flat rate mechanic pay vs shop labor rates. I currently take 14% of each $200 i make for them using my hands and the tools I had to pay for. And then they get mad if I do it too slow or take too many jobs on at one time. I’d cancel the trip and take a venmo for an amount in the middle. The rider saves money and the driver makes more idk man that’s fucked up. People are starting finally realize that this countries greed is driven by wallstreet and the reason why you pay so much for anything is so executives and shareholders continue to suck everyone dry Engineers and advertising arent cheap. The drivers are paying for a referral service – without it they don’t drive. They’re the ones providing the service that the company is advertising, however. Day after day, hour after hour. They should get a little bit more. And Lyft has the customers. Lyft’s position here is basically this: we found a guy who needs a ride. He’ll pay $48. We will sell him to you for $18.
I don’t think companies splits 50/50 revenue with their employees. If the Larry Bird Boston Celtics Unisex Basketball shirt and by the same token and person is willing to do the job for the $18 what does that person care how much the company charges? Get the drivers number, and the next time you need a ride, call them directly, give them $40 for the ride. Who is going to tell? Lyft is still not profitable, Uber turned a profit for the first time last year. Cherrypicked numbers don’t always tell the full story. True, but the fact that the services aren’t turning massive profits yet doesn’t necessarily mean their payout amounts to drivers are fair or good. Their losses could be due to poor business practices or even planned years of massive losses in order to grow the business at such a rapid pace worldwide.
Ask them to cancel the Larry Bird Boston Celtics Unisex Basketball shirt and by the same token and ride and give them 30$. You save money and they make money. Only person that gets screwed is the big guy up top, but he can afford it. If they keep driving after seeing stuff like this I don’t feel sorry for the driver, its their choice to keep doing it. The most common are the habits of eating and renting, sometimes they also have the bad habit of having to carry a family on their back If they are fine with getting screwed on pay that’s on them, What I am saying is I don’t have to feel bad for them if they choose to continue getting screwed instead of doing something else. If its a decision they are making why do you think i should be feeling sorry for them? So yes it is their fault they keep driving because its their choice to do so and by doing so they accept they are getting screwed on pay. Why are you on Lyfts side here, do you hold stock in them or something? It was late at night and I just wanted to return home. Waited for an hour and was not able to get a Lyft. Finally got one but it was a $100+ ride but I still bit the bullet and took it. When I boarded he asked me how much did I pay and that was when he told me that he was only going to make $30 from the trip. We ended up making a deal where I just directly paid him $60. He really did me a solid that day The reliability of that depends on the city. Tried that exactly once, to take me to the airport. I scheduled it 2 days in advance. 30 minutes after the scheduled time, In called and they were “on their way”. 30 minutes later they still weren’t there, so I called again and they “will be there in 15 minutes. 1.5 hours after the scheduled time, and I requested an Uber so I would get to the airport without missing my flight.
Landed to find a voicemail from the Larry Bird Boston Celtics Unisex Basketball shirt and by the same token and taxi company telling me they were at my house, followed by a second voicemail that they left and were charging me the fee because I reserved the taxi and didn’t show. Uber definitely has its flaws, but I think people forget about the issues with taxis that led to Uber having a successful business model. Is it possible to “cancel the ride” before you get in the car and just tell them where to go and just give them the cash? When I got a lyft from the airport, the driver told me that the airport takes a mandatory cut for any dropoff there. That’s probably part of it. Yeah the airport – at least some, will have a staging lot just for Uber/lyft drivers where they have to cue before being allowed to drive to the terminal. Prevents the airport from being slammed by hundreds of drivers. Yeah, its a scam. Just like Taxis and everything else. To be fair, if somebody put in the effort to come up with their own drivers network, they too would probably keep 66 percent or around that. 152 more repliesYou’d think there would be an oversight keeping eyes on this nonsense, but they’re too busy funding wars There’s gotta be more context here but I know Reddit doesn’t wanna ask these questions and just rage. I’m sure there’s a base wage on top that’s paid to these drivers. Prove me wrong if I am
Wait until you see invoice price of everything you pay for. You all act like this is your first day on earth if this infuriates you. Well, considering there may be discount codes and the Larry Bird Boston Celtics Unisex Basketball shirt and by the same token and driver doesn’t get paid less from said code…. which goes to say you should scrape the internet for codes before your ride for a more equitable split. Any time people take these rides, ask them to cancel, pay them cash at a negotiated rate. Better for both parties. Drivers risk getting deactivated for cancelling too many rides. I got a warning for it after cancelling a handful of unsafe pickups. I drove for Uber eats for about a year and a half. I would make $50-75 a day if I worked my tail off from 11 in the morning to 9 at night. I would deliver $50 orders and make maybe $4. It was a little better back then (2019-2020) because they paid you for waiting, but that feature was taken away. Uber was a good side hustle for a while, but then they started slowly cutting the driver’s cut until now is almost not worth it. They are betting on people whose only source of income is Uber and won’t stop because they don’t have anything else. This is why the quality of cars and drivers has substantially gone down. Oh yeah I saw an Uber eats order yesterday where someone was charged $45 in miscellaneous fees and the base pay for drivers is $3.
I did Uber and Lyft a few years ago to supplement my income and unless I got a big tip on a ride I wasn’t making shit I did lyft way back when it was decent. We got paid 75% of the Larry Bird Boston Celtics Unisex Basketball shirt and by the same token and fare and i was okay with that. Once the pay structure changed around 2018 or so I noticed i was making a whole lot less and left the platform. I hate that within the next year or two, your jobs will become completely automated- Waymo or whatever it’s called is coming soon. More cars on the road -with no one in them- delivering…food. Doesnt seem bad to me and anyway if he doesnt like what hes getting paid, he shouldnt be doing it? After all no ones forcing him to Drive around. i became good friends with a lyft driver. ever since then i would call him for drives i was planing and pay him what the flat number on the app was. i would reduce cost in the extra taxes and tips and he would get good money! Yet people keep driving and ordering them! Sorry I am that guy, but if people stop using and working for them, shit will change unless they want to go bankrupt. I moved and it was saving me a few dollars, so I started adding that as a tip. Uber swiftly upped their prices, now I’m paying what I used to pay. I ride 7 days a week, 2 ways each day Doordash is just as bad ..as a former driver, initial Base pay is $2-$2.50 before tip regardless of distances for the most part , unless it’s an order more than 10+ miles then away or the order has been sitting a while …then they bump it up to like $5.00 lol
I took an uber in mexico last year. About an hour ride was roughly 300 pesos (about 15 USD). I wonder how it is profitable for the Larry Bird Boston Celtics Unisex Basketball shirt and by the same token and driver after fuel… we did tip about 50% but I doubt most people do. For. What I’ve seen the average hourly earnings is typically between $17/hr-$22hr in a fairly urban area where you can mostly stay busy. It can be less in areas where demand is low. It’s an average way to earn some cash at best with some benefits over a regular job such as flexibility to work your own schedule. Otherwise there just aren’t any benefits to it. Every time I go to/from the airport, I take an Uber/Lyft, and I have to cross a toll bridge that costs $4 each way, and there’s no other way to go. The ride usually costs $75-100 for 40 minutes/miles. The drivers have told me they’re getting $18-28 and expected it was going to be like a 15 minute drive based on the rate before they accepted it. It’s crazy how much rides companies take. I paid $75 for a ride to the airport ($25 tip) and the guy said he got paid $48. So less than half of the trip fare I paid went toward base pay Idk how companies rationalize taking soooo much of the driver pay, when they don’t even do the work. Wild
Yep. Worst I’ve seen is a customer got charged for 2 hrs of driving and it was like 143.50 to them… I got 56.00 Ive been wondering about this!!!!! I uber to the Larry Bird Boston Celtics Unisex Basketball shirt and by the same token and doctor, and its always 8$ ish… how much are they getting? Like 2$??? Next time when driver arrives, cancel ride on Lyft. Give driver $40 cash. You save and the driver gets double what he’d get on app… They’re not employees, at least last I checked, so they don’t have the rights employees do. They don’t get benefits (I know a lot of us don’t but still). They’re not guaranteed minimum wage, even. They have to use their own vehicles, adding wear and tear they aren’t compensated for, their own gas, their own heightened insurance rates. And bc they’re on the road so much, they’re way more likely to get in a accident. And of course, be fully on the hook for it. Then there are the independent contractor tax rates, which steal too much of their money.
And if it works like rover does, they get taxed on the Larry Bird Boston Celtics Unisex Basketball shirt and by the same token and fees charged to the customers, not based on what they received. The company can’t be profitable if they don’t make any profit… But I do agree the drivers are under paid both a uber and Lyft! That’s just awful, in no circumstance should the contractor performing all the work get less than 50%. What a racket. Airports and ride shares are weird. Most have an additional tax on top of the regular sales tax. I do Uber in Atlanta and it think it’s around 25% of the fare goes to the airport. You can avoid the extra tax by being picked up / dropped outside of the airport boundary(depending on the size of the airport that’s easier said than done).
Not sure about Lyft but the Larry Bird Boston Celtics Unisex Basketball shirt and by the same token and percentage is consistently around 40-45% goes to the driver for Uber. Uber has a really good statements, a good 30% of the fare goes to taxes and insurance Ubers take is around 10-15% depending on the length of the ride. I would have to assume Lyft is around the same. They could take less but I doubt it could go much lower considering Uber wasn’t profitable until like 6 months ago. I would say an ideal triple point where the customer, driver , and company are all happy enough would be the driver getting around 50%, and the company taking around 6-8% . Taxes and insurance are always going to have to take a cut, unless you want the driver to have to pay for commercial insurance just to do Uber.
What do you think Lyft and Uber are going to spend all that money on their App and advertisment to find customers and not make a profit? They have to pay customer service workers and IT guys to fix bugs too. I also find it infuriating that Uber takes ~30% of the Larry Bird Boston Celtics Unisex Basketball shirt and by the same token and food delivery costs. Like, that’s far too high for just hosting the website. Everyone else is doing all the actual work. these apps are the vile evil that we need regulation from. They do less than 5% of the actual work, but take in more than 30% of the transaction. Thats theft, its what capitalism is built on, but this is just ridiculous. Gotten a few rides when prices are higher because its busy or some surge bs. Every time the driver told me he was getting the normal pay nothing extra
I don’t know. Can you guys not cancel the Larry Bird Boston Celtics Unisex Basketball shirt and by the same token and ride after getting it and pay slightly more than what the companies are paying them. You get cheaper rides. They get more money. Same goes for taxi drivers in big cities like Vegas and NYC, they make their pay through tips, people just don’t realize how much the company let alone taxes take , unless people stand up against the companies, if you plan on using a rideshare or taxi, you have to factor in tip . Traditional private livery car services where the buisness owns the car and assigns a driver to it usually did 50/50 split on fare for day. 60/40 at night. Driver paid gas and kept tips, owner maintained the car.
‘Rest and vest’ is a thing in tech for the Larry Bird Boston Celtics Unisex Basketball shirt and by the same token and people who don’t care anymore and just do enough to survive each quarterly vesting date. Very prominent at FAANG. My ex got a job in Palo Alto after we both finished undergrad, both having $15-20k in loans to pay. She got a job as a receptionist at a venture capital firm. She got a promotion within a few months to being one of the executive’s assistant. We broke up ~18 months later, I got into grad school, then 3 years later she bought a house in cash outright. those 5-6 months at the end of our relationship, 10 hours/week would be accurate. She’d literally go to yoga during her “work day”, get nails done, hair, doc appointments, etc etc. I’d look at my phone after being in class then the lab all day, and she’d had texted me she was going to fly to Cancun, or Cabo, or NYC, so we couldn’t see eachother…that same weekend.
I eventually got my doctorate and after all my schooling, she probably could pay all my loans off with a years salary (her benefits even include food, laptop, phone, full coverage medical, dental, therapy, pharmacy). Vast majority of any bills she “has” is covered by her firm. All pocket money. Maybe I’m looking at this wrong but being promoted so quickly and then being able to work 10 hour weeks and fly all over the Larry Bird Boston Celtics Unisex Basketball shirt and by the same token and world. There might be a teensy chance she was “exploring other options.” If that was the case then no, you did not fuck up regardless of how much she makes. The “I fucked up” was (I thought) obvious sarcasm, and if she was exploring other options or not I’ll never know. We’d have broken up for other personal reasons, no matter if we both worked at Taco Bell lol. Quick edit: she in fact did explore other options when we first started dating, with someone very very very very close to me and then both of them lied to my face about it. It is what it is, the actual acts and other things weren’t bad, it was the lying over and over then finally admitting it was the hard part. That’s kinda a large reason why we both knew it just couldn’t work out and that’s okay.
Ya gotta do a bare minimum to get through connect/review season, but you can get away with a shocking amount of laziness. Honestly roof guys aren’t even the Larry Bird Boston Celtics Unisex Basketball shirt and by the same token and pinnacle anymore. Now there are WFH roof guys who are probably in the single digit hours worked in a week. And by work I mean sitting in front of their computer at all. Not even. I know someone whose manager gave him a raise and bonus after 1 year of basically doing nothing because their project was on hold and he even directly questioned it like “dude you know I’ve done basically nothing, we hang out every day.” Manager told him “yeah but the budget is use or lose, so…enjoy. Cause we’re gonna need it when things spin back up.” If you want to keep top talent long-term, you have to meet their expectations even during downtimes, particularly if they (which they do) have the capability to go pretty much anywhere.
