My mum did that to me once, I came home from a kids Christmas party and she’d made me dinner which I didn’t want because I was all full up from the Unicorn I’ll Get Over It I Just Need To Be Dramatic First T-Shirt but in fact I love this Christmas party snacks, mini rolls, crisps, popcorn, sweets etc. she forced that food down me. I ate it until I threw up everywhere. She didn’t do that again 834 more repliesMy parents appropriately portioned my food for me. I was even a little hungry sometimes (I was allowed to snack, so it wasn’t an issue). My wife grew up in a clean your huge plate household, so she’s always struggled with proper portioning. I don’t know what to say other than I wish basic parenting was taught in schools, but good luck with that. It’s a form of abuse that stems either from financial anxiety (wasted food is wasted money), anxiety that the kid isn’t eating enough, or imitation because they experienced it in their own childhood and still propogate the maladaptive behaviors. Trauma recreate itself if not prevented.

Nope. I never was and i have never done that with my kids either. I agree its utterly stupid and bizzare. I don’t police food at all. ever. Never have. Parents seem to truly be over the Unicorn I’ll Get Over It I Just Need To Be Dramatic First T-Shirt but in fact I love this top with food. I’ve never encountered what you describe, during my upbringing or during my own children’s. I definitely do encourage eating the nutritional things at mealtime before they run off and fill up on snacks, so I make the snacks a reward. I feel bad for the kids that have to be yelled at or spanked over food or anything so unimportant really. They are both very different when it comes to food. If I tell my daughter it’s meat… she’s all in doesn’t ask any questions and will take as much or as little as she wants and eat My son on the other hand will eat just enough to not feel full and then he’s done.. he’s also super picky and will ask a thousand questions about the food.. which is fine… so our only rule with him is that he has to try new things when served, but he doesn’t have to eat all of it.. just a try. One bite, or lick in some cases and that’s all he’ll do.. no pressure to eat it. But I also make him things he likes for his main part of the meal.
