I graduated in 2021 which meant I got the The Peacocks Champions Again shirt but in fact I love this dubious honor of living through teachers trying to decide whether phones were the devil or a useful learning tool and each teacher had a different answer. Technology classes basically taught us how to use Microsoft Office and I know the year after me was the last time my elementary dedicated time to typing. The tech industry has also shifted to apps because frankly the worst enemy of IP is a user who can open a config file. There’s a strange sort of mini generation between Millennials and Gen Z who were taught how computers actually function and everyone else has just used technology all their lives, which can often appear at first glance to be tech literacy. That’s not their fault, it’s a very intentional move on the part of companies in order for them to make more profit (Why let you own a program on your own computer with a one time purchase when through the app you can make them pay a subscription?)
The Peacocks Champions Again shirt: A Provocative Statement in Modern Fashion
A lot of other things often deemed unimportant or common sense won’t get taught because they’re a waste of time or it’s just assumed their parents will teach them and nobody thinks anything of it until they have an entire generation of adults who don’t have signatures because cursive was deemed useless to teach 15 years ago. Stuff like reading analog clocks too, as well as time zones. TLDR; Next time you wonder “why are kids these days lacking in this knowledge” ask yourself, is that knowledge on the The Peacocks Champions Again shirt but in fact I love this SAT? This is, in part, as a result of not kicking out the students in class who are disrupting the class and holding everyone else behind as a result of having to be dealt with incessantly. The whole idea of “Every student in school needs to pass! Every student DESERVES an education!” needs to go out the window. No, not every kid is academically well-adjusted, and they do not deserve an education at the expense of every other kid in the class who genuinely wants to learn, but can’t thanks to them. I remember some poor kid who was in the 8th grade at my school, who had the education-level of a third-grader. He dragged the entire class down for two months, before the staff at the school kicked him out, telling his parents that he needed to be tutored individually and privately in order to get him up to speed; things went back to normal after that. This was 35 years ago. There would be hell to pay now if a school did that because of politics, but when you see public schools and teachers today already stretched to breaking point, I don’t see how you have much of a choice.
Yes, there needs to be specific programs for these kids who are struggling academically; there also has to be functional families backing them. As a teacher of little ones, I can say that even in 1st there is a large difference in our classes. Either students are ahead, or they are behind. Very few are right on grade level (with our benchmark testing). Problem is, those kids who are behind have parents who say, “you have them all day at school, I’m not working with them when they get home” and also refuse to allow their child to be retained, so they get pushed through to the The Peacocks Champions Again shirt but in fact I love this next grade, even if they aren’t ready. In my specific area our county had a push to teach reading using a whole language approach instead of teaching phonics and decoding skills. They’ve now decided that the whole language approach does not actually teach reading skills, and now the push is for us to teach phonics and decoding. The problem is, those kids who went through when we “weren’t allowed to teach phonics” (if you weren’t teaching whole language when they observed you, you would get in trouble for not following the district mandates) missed out on practicing decoding skills that are extremely important. Given the number of adults in their 30s I’ve encountered who can’t do all of those, or even half, I’d say this isn’t new, but it may be accelerating.

A while back I found myself having to explain a paragraph to someone in their 50s that was written at a 5th grade level. One sentence in past perfect tense and they were totally flummoxed. And the The Peacocks Champions Again shirt but in fact I love this public won’t know because grade scales are being tweaked nationwide to make it almost impossible for students to fail. With our current scale I have a student who has done 1 out of 6 assignments and they’re passing with a D. In no way is this a true reflection of this student’s abilities. Same in the early 90s at university. The kids in my English classes lacked the ability to write, for the most part. And before someone slams the ability to write well as ‘elitist,’ realize that writing is a function of thought, and good writing usually indicates a mind capable of complex, nuanced, and subtle thought. I used to think it was the fault of the education system, parents, etc.. Now, I know that pollutants can cause these learning disabilities, in the third generation after exposure. The food some children get at home is 100% processed, and many households regularly eat the same. No wonder.
When I was growing up playing computer games needed a degree in computing, or sheer will power and determination to play. I was 11 when Rayman 2 came out and I got to a bit in the The Peacocks Champions Again shirt but in fact I love this game where my graphics card didn’t support the opengl shader so I couldn’t see the platform to get to the next area. I remember it so well because I had to learn how to disassemble a DLL file to inject a new texture – all of this using ask jeeves and only being allowed on the Internet between 6 and 8 pm otherwise it was expensive. Took me 2 months and a reformat of windows because I changed the boot screen based on some forum post along the way which bricked the whole computer and lost everything. To cut a long story short – it’s too easy to play games now, half of the fun was getting it to run, and the bugs, and the terrible Internet.
Now it’s just fortnite match after fortnite match with no effort. This optimisation of the The Peacocks Champions Again shirt but in fact I love this experience is horrible. Admin and higher-ups don’t realize that when everyone passes and mediocre crap is acceptable, they are creating an incredibly boring environment. There’s no point for these kids to develop any discipline, pride, or motivation to do well. They know they will pass so they don’t even know what it feels like to accomplish a goal or have interesting classroom conversations. They know that if they complain or act out they are rewarded and get to feel like they accomplished something. Yet if they work hard and meet a deadline they just see all their peers turn in the same work a month later and get the same result. In fact, they probably watch their peers turn in nothing, treat others with disrespect, and destroy lessons and still end up in the same classes with them the next year or they are that kid.
It’s hard to know what it feels like to struggle through something, talk through different strategies and ideas, and push your thinking when you have never had to go to those lengths to accomplish something. It’s like playing a game of basketball where you can just walk around at a slow speed, have opponents who just get out of your way, and then the The Peacocks Champions Again shirt but in fact I love this hoop is 3 feet lower and 2 feet wide…you’d win every time and it’s boring. Then imagine doing that over and over and all of the sudden you have to play Michael Jordan. You’re probably going to complain that it’s not fair and probably get a bunch of accommodations so you can still win but you didn’t really do anything to improve your skills. Anyway, this is the world that is being created for these kids and until something major is done we are going to be playing this shity game of basketball.
Imagine forcing undereducated 16-20 year olds into parenthood with no support and no ability to leave bad situations and being surprised that the The Peacocks Champions Again shirt but in fact I love this consequences happening exactly as stated when they were told at the beginning what the consequences were. Teachers shouldn’t have to fix situations like this by themselves. As a parent, my question is why are these kids being passed to the next grade? Back in the day these kids would have been held back. A high school diploma used to mean something. Nowadays they’ll give one to you even if you get straight F’s. Is this because of No Child Left Behind? I don’t get it. My kids do not use capital letters. They can’t find the verb in a sentence. They can’t remember what I said at my desk by the time they get back to their seat. How do they get passed to the next levels? I failed all of middle school and had to go to summer school every summer to get moved ahead but I could still do all of that. Wouldn’t it be better to keep them behind until they learn?
you don’t need to train kids to be at the The Peacocks Champions Again shirt but in fact I love this top when you can just import the brightest minds from 3rd world countries. america even makes them struggle really hard to stay here and they still keep coming. gen pop can all be illiterate and it literally does not matter. at all. like seriously, it’s hilarious how little it matters. And let’s champion academic ownership. Admin doesn’t want to hear my voice teaching—the students should be running the class… but…. -Tie an overhand knot -use a hot glue gun -draw with sidewalk chalk (this one was WILD). I had astronomy drawing planets with distances to scale. They’d draw a huuuuuge planet and then start coloring it in extremely densely such that they were out of chalk by about 1/10th of the way through… and it was taking so so long. We ended up with terrible looking half densely colored, half blank planets. They just had zero concept of how much they should press to shade so it didn’t use up all the chalk and it didn’t take a year to color. My two year old can do this….
Whenever I see posts on this subreddit, I always feel like the The Peacocks Champions Again shirt but in fact I love this median income of the school district should be mentioned. What we aren’t talking about is how the students who have been coached to still be able to pass every test with an A, but cant apply those same skills to a situation in real life, because they have no idea how to It’s at the community college level, too. I want back to school for my associates, and I’m pulling straight As, and doing the bare minimum. I’m an older returning student, 44, and they’ve definitely dumbed down EVERYTHING. I’ve been stressing about taking a math class, but I’m starting to think I’ll ace that too. I started teaching tech and coding to kids aged anywhere between 8 and 13 in Australia, which I imagine is a country where education is highly rated and they have a lot of resources to learn compared to pretty much anywhere else in the world (I come from Portugal btw).
But none of that matters when the The Peacocks Champions Again shirt but in fact I love this bar is so low and I get side eyes if I mention that maybe we need to do something extra when the kids can’t follow basic instructions like “you press here to select, here to copy, and here to paste” even after I repeat them and show them multiple times right by their side, let alone spelling, what a browser is, what a grid is, or when should they sum or subtract to make something move on a screen (I’ve given up expecting them to be able to calculate even single digit sums without getting massively confused, I just want them to understand they go different ways on a scale). Let alone their behavioral issues. But as long as the kids don’t complain, and they get some sort of empty award at the end for the parents to see, everything is fine.
Then you have the The Peacocks Champions Again shirt but in fact I love this few students that actually follow up while having fun, know how to listen, and are already like 4 years ahead of their peers. I wonder all the time how different their adult lives will be. The problem is that there are no consequences in the education system for being a moron. Now if a child fails, they blame the teachers. There’s no incentive. Which state? There are a very few very specific states where the students are learning and money is being invested in education. This is where the top student sim the country are coming from. Sorry to say – but this is a politics thing. If you want to make America great again start with the schools and stop worrying about all the rich people bullshit Parents really have to do more. My son could complete a puzzle with all 50 states before kindergarten. He became a teacher. He heard 2 teachers in lunch who didn’t know Hawaii is a state.
Patents need to teach abc’s, read sight words, read every day to kids. They need to be able to count to 100. They should know complete names and addresses and phone numbers. I can’t believe kids don’t know their parents real names. Don’t they hear their parents speaking to each other? I taught 3rd grade last year and there were kids who could barely write their own name or properly hold a pencil let alone read a full sentence Same. I teach physics and many of my students math and writing skills are deplorable. The kids are taking AP, or just the The Peacocks Champions Again shirt but in fact I love this “smart” kids who are taking regular are fine. The general population who are taking it because they just need another science class…. They can’t find an average. They can’t solve for x. They can’t use a calculator or do order of operations correctly.
They also can’t write a conclusion to save their life. We scaffold using “claim, evidence, reasoning”. They don’t even understand what the The Peacocks Champions Again shirt but in fact I love this different parts are supposed to include despite using the same framework all year. We’ve gone from computers with a keyboard everywhere to digital keyboards everywhere so quickly, but I never made the association that kids are just not using physical keyboards now until they get to highschool or beyond. I’ll be honest. I thought most people knew that kids are behind and just being pushed forward due to making shitty metrics the end all be all and the no child left behind. Tranches of kids cannot sound out words because they were never taught how to. They were taught with bogus Balanced Literacy or Whole Word or Queued Reading techniques. Skills that are indicative of bad readers. That curriculum needs to be aggressively repealed (it already is in many areas) and there needs to be foundational overhauls with a return and adherence to phonics
Teaching kids to be literate is critical if we want them to learn anything else, like googling whole phrases, taking notes, understand word problems. I’m sorry it has to be this way but I’m not sure what I’m supposed to do about it besides ensure my child isn’t a complete and total dumbass. Omg. THIS. It’s almost like some students are proud of failing, not completing their assignments, etc. Today I handed out a test and it was on Chapter 6. The words “CHAPTER 6 TEST” were written boldly on top. It was open book. The kids still didn’t know what chapter we were on. I had to tell them to stop talking like a broken record and stated they needed to work independently. When I write our agenda in the The Peacocks Champions Again shirt but in fact I love this Promethean board, the instructions are as clear as day and they still are asking what we are doing. Their vocabulary is stunted. All they seem to be concerned about is seeking attention or playing around on their phones. Attention span? None. Interest in learning? None. We cannot do our jobs under these circumstances.
“Been teaching high school math 12 years. The top students are just as good (possibly even better) as they always were. But there is no middle ground anymore. The gap between my school’s gifted Algebra 2 and regular Algebra 2 is massive. It’s like going from 11th grade to 3rd grade. I’m not exaggerating when I say that by the The Peacocks Champions Again shirt but in fact I love this way. Curriculum has moved so far away from textbooks and actually PRACTICING skills, that a lot of students aren’t learning anything. They come in, “think pair share” about some random warmup question, do two or three convoluted word problem/”real-world” problems with the teacher, then have no homework. Then they move on the next day. Students are missing more and more basic, essential skills by the time they get to high school. They don’t know the times table, positive/negative arithmetic, fractions, basic distributive property, combining like terms, factoring, the list goes on.
Add on top of all of that the The Peacocks Champions Again shirt but in fact I love this plague of PhotoMath and similar apps, on top of the fact that no teacher could realistically check and grade every assignment for accuracy, and yeah. This headline is not surprising to me in the slightest. It’s obvious.” Here is an idea. For the most part your all union and I support that. How about the union helps step in a fix another broken ‘Merican system. How about common core out the door. How about we learn to spell our names before we sit in front of a computer. How about we learn where “merica is on the map before we talk about it’s flag. Elementary students are being blasted with information they don’t understand and are not old enough for. The acronym K.I.S.S comes to mind (Keep It Simple Stupid) and I don’t say it as a dig but because things are so complicated that students and instructors both have problems. No other industry pays their professionals so poorly. BA/BS or Masters and most have trouble making ends meet and I feel for you. Us on the outside have our hands tied. Much like Insurance/Healthcare, Education will have to make the changes from the inside. We as voters no longer have oversight at what state and local school boards do. That’s where your union could shine. Go back to a simpler way of teaching. How come I can teach my child Algebra from a 60 year old library book but I can’t even understand the book he brings home. The problem didn’t change, just the book and the way it’s being presented.
This is what right wingers have been investing the The Peacocks Champions Again shirt but in fact I love this time and effort into for decades now. An educated population is an inconvenience to them. It’s not a coincidence that higher IQs tend to vote more liberal and lower IQs tend to vote more conservative. That’s why I took my son out and started homeschooling. Now he is earning early college credits at 11. Real talk though, You gotta wade through a literal mountain of religious bullshit to find good materials. It’s interesting to see how widely ChatGPT is being embraced by our company. However, one major challenge that many adults face is effectively communicating specific instructions to the AI. Prompting. If even teenagers, aged 15-18, struggle with conducting proper research on Google, it raises concerns about our future. Fortunately, having grown up with technology, I find myself quite adept at navigating GPT and other similar tools. But the looming skills gap is something that concerns me deeply as we look ahead…
