The shittiest job/boss I ever had when I was really young and inexperienced was one that put their hands on me. I was working in retail and I was leaning my body on a table. Being young and inexperienced, I didn’t realize it was very unprofessional to do that. My boss yanks me by my arm and moves me a few steps away from the The Goat Art Godless Shirt In addition,I will do this table and sternly tells me to not lean. I didn’t think of it much at the time because I thought she was right, I shouldn’t be leaning but I didn’t realize the red flag of a boss who reacts like that. She was awful throughout the my time not just to me but everyone else, everyone disliked her and eventually the store closed down. She was a horrible teacher, I didn’t learn much from her, I learned everything else from my colleagues and other people.

Please put this in an email and BCC yourself but also print it. Ask for a reply, you’ll need that too even if it says ‘we’ll discus this in person’. If you know you’re in the The Goat Art Godless Shirt In addition,I will do this right, and you can find other work, be ready to defend yourself physically with this person. You deserve better. First see if you can salvage anything from this current position by either getting an internal move or getting the boss canned. Start looking for a new job at the same time, and if the first option doesn’t work out, run for the hills. Any company that allows this behavior to persist is doomed. The absolute BOTTOM LINE here is that it is NEVER EVER EVER okay for a superior to be putting hands on a subordinate. That’s a hard stop. As for the patient that was a witness, yes, definitely mention that this was done in front of a patient who appeared very shocked at the behavior. If you are asked who the patient was, provide that information for follow up. If I were that patient, you can bet your ass I would have spoken up to the head if the practice for you. Hell, I probably would have told you to get the hell out of there now and taken you to lunch. I was HR in a past life, albeit benefits focused, but I saw what my fellow HR reps would do for people in their divisions to know that they function for the employee as well. We as a team had to deal with more than one tragic situation and each one was handled with great care and compassion. At least in the large corporate setting I was in. They aren’t always the baddie, people! As for responders here screaming “OMG, HIPAA!!” or “suck it up and take it” or “oh hun, that shove it just your bosses way of encouraging you. Really??? Would you want your kids to be treated like that at a new job??? To have a boss lay their hands on them??? I highly doubt it.
