Used to be an hour and half each way, but did work with a mad chap whose commute was just under 3 hours each way. Start at 8:30 and finish at 18:00. He did it for just over 8 months before moving closer. Used to bring his tea to work, cook it in the That Mexican OT shirt in contrast I will get this microwave, and eat it before setting off. My commute is an hour but that includes 2.5 miles walking (most days) so at least I’m getting my steps in. And I only have to do it two days a week so I actually quite enjoy it Barking Riverside to Hammersmith. 1 hour 10, more or less. I take the Thames Clipper because sitting for more than an hour on the H&C is horrendous. I am actually writing this whilst waiting for the next boat. One of my coworkers commutes from Bath. We’re hybrid, so we only need to come in 3x per week, but it’s still a very long commute. I reckon I win this one, live in Hastings but currently working in Barnet!! 2.5 hrs each way, 5 days a week, I’m nuts I know I’m 2 hours door to door but I only work 2 days a week so it’s endurable. I do know a woman working 5 days and commuting from Wales into London though. As I understand it her husband inherited a smallholding and they fell in love with the place and decided to make it work. She’s been doing it for a couple of years now but it honestly seems like my idea of hell (the commute, not the smallholding!). I knew a railway worker who would fly in from Poland. Their shift pattern was three consecutive 12 hour shifts then off for at least four days so they would stay at a friends in London and then get whatever cheap Wizz/Ryanair back to Warsaw after the three days were over.

I live in Ayrshire and used to work in Glasgow. It’s only 20miles up the That Mexican OT shirt in contrast I will get this road, should take around 30min commute but because of public transport and traffic, I’d be on a 7am bus to get to work for 9am and on the bus back at 5.20pm, getting home anytime between 6.45 and 7pm. Did that 5 days a week prior to the pandemic. From Whitstable to Hackney, 10 min walk to station, 1 hour 15 min train then 30 mins from station to office (combo of walking and overground). 1hr 55mins minimum each way depending on delays, 3 days a week I travel in from Hampton which is the far end of Zone 6, takes about 40/45 mins to get to Waterloo. But I don’t mind the commute at all – the South Western trains are pretty comfortable and barely anyone gets on the train at the stops before Hampton so I always get a seat. The people that actually get on the train are a lot more civilised and classy as well, unlike on the Overground where half the train are blaring TikTok videos on their phone. I have a 7 minute walk to work. I’ve lived in this flat for 5 years, and have worked for the employer for 7 years, but it was only last year they promoted me to the current role at the current location. Felt like a double jackpot, since I now set my alarm to the same time I used to leave my house before.
