There is a real risk that they wouldn’t promote you or give you decent pay rise even if they ended up promoting you. Beware of this very real risk… That said, I would give you a different point of view; when interviewing to hire someone for a role, the Thankful For Horses Horses With Autumn Hats Thanksgiving shirt also I will do this hiring manager is looking for someone with the necessary experience first. Sure the job title might open some doors, but the proof is what did you do? Many interviewers are trained to use the STAR method to funnel and extract your hard gained experience. Therefore please try and look at this as a rare experience, due partly to luck, to gain the experience you may otherwise not be able to gain. “I’m not comfortable taking on new responsibilities without a pay increase. Although I am excited for new challenges, I do not think it is best suited for all involved if I do so without a proper pay adjustment. If the role is still available in the future at a higher rate, I will happily reconsider” They can’t fire you for refusing to move up or it is considered retaliation. Do this in writing. Don’t work more and set yourself up to get shafted – this company has already shown it isn’t loyal to anyone by firing your boss. Don’t let them take advantage of you.

A friend of mine got 3 promotions in 1.5 years. Bit more money but is still doing the Thankful For Horses Horses With Autumn Hats Thanksgiving shirt also I will do this 3 jobs he got promoted to because no one to replace him. They had money to pay your boss. They want you to do your job and his with like …. nothing. You have leverage. If you leave who will be doing your job and his? Well, this happened to me once. I dead panned them, if I’m doing the work of the position why am I not receiving the pay? Realistically, unless there are some certifications you HAVE to have, then there really is NO reason for not getting a pay increase. More responsibility means more money. I declined the “opportunity” because I was already qualified to do the job and had a 4 year degree that dovetailed with the work. They were trying to pay me $4 less than the minimum for the position. As others have said, get it in writing. Also get them to agree to a defined time period (90 days? 60 days?), though I personally think an increase in responsibility should immediately be met with commensurate pay increase
