The younger generation will not fix this because they don’t know it can be different, so they have nothing to aspire to (From my perspective) I feel it’s a generational effect left from being raised by soldiers who’ve seen the Texas A&M Aggies Marcel Reed Conner Weigman It’s Time For Texas A&M Shirt Besides,I will do this most horrific wars. People are becoming painfully aware of our flaws as a society and are isolating themselves to work on themselves and raise their kids. I have cptsd, my grandpa was a heavy gunner for convoys, and my dad is so locked down emotionally it’s sad. Was never taught how to look inward or things like meditation. I barely have time and energy left over after battling my mental/emotional flaws and making the most of my weekends with my son. Same boat. Grandfather was a closed-off police officer, my Father self-medicated with drink and of course I did the same after returning from Iraq. I developed some toxic masculinity issues while I was younger that I had to address plus my mental health and I found through working on myself that I’m really just not in the market for a partner, or don’t have the energy, or both. If I meet someone then great but I don’t know, I’m pretty content as is. I tried making friends and I’m not going to bother anymore. An already established friend group doesn’t have room for an extra person and most of the time something funky is going on and you’re the only one who notices because you’re not a frog in boiling water.
Texas A&M Aggies Marcel Reed Conner Weigman It’s Time For Texas A&M Shirt: best trending this year
My husband struggles to understand this Texas A&M Aggies Marcel Reed Conner Weigman It’s Time For Texas A&M Shirt Besides,I will do this concept and hence he has two felonies from his teenage years when he had a circle of drug-addicted high school dropout felon friends. He thinks Im being silly when I “judge” our son’s friends and police how much time he spends with them according to where I think they’ll end up someday. Like it’s a total coincidence that I was a nerd with nerd friends and thus I happened to go a top university and have degrees. Total utter coink-i-dink. Eh, you could be right or you could be wrong. Helicopter parenting can end up with great results or horrible ones. I hung out with high school drop outs and they encouraged me to go to college because they realized they made a huge mistake
I don’t know who “they” are, but the Texas A&M Aggies Marcel Reed Conner Weigman It’s Time For Texas A&M Shirt Besides,I will do this heuristic seems to be on to something there from a lot of examples I’ve seen… It’s super easy to borrow/replicate/push habits among peers on stuff like eating, drinking, exercise, hobbies, etc. Competition between friends can be very healthy if you have the right friends. In 8th grade my son buckled down in geometry because he wanted to move on to algebra with his friends, his teacher thought he should retake geometry in 9th grade. I have a tight group of 5 friends, we went to different colleges in the same state and visited each other on the weekends. Being in college is probably what kept us from drifting apart. Even though we weren’t near each other we were in the same place in life. Even the friend who graduated a year before us with her associates in applied health still came to visit about once a month.

About Texas A&M Aggies Marcel Reed Conner Weigman It’s Time For Texas A&M Shirt
That makes sense. When my friends and roommates have been ultra marathon runners I’ve ended up doing a lot more long runs, when my friends and coworkers go out to the Texas A&M Aggies Marcel Reed Conner Weigman It’s Time For Texas A&M Shirt Besides,I will do this bar every day after work I end up drinking a lot more. Try to get in shape when you have a fat family. They will say so many things to you to try and steer you off course. It truly is incredible when this happens. They can’t accept that they raised you fat and you are fixing their mistake I refuse to have children due to the society/family around me. It’s never going to happen. Although, I have sort of fixed my obesity. But I think I will forever have a belly. Since I’ve hit 140lbs and still had it. scars will never heal from the piss poor guidance given. I will never forgive and never forget. Unfortunately I was born pre internet so I could not guide myself and was at the mercy of Gen X and Boomers stupid bullshit. Maybe if I was born 10 years later I would have had the power to inform myself better. My mom called me fat when I started working out and building muscle. I was 110lb at 5’2″. I was 90lb before that and I still wasn’t skinny enough for her.
She doesn’t see you as her child, she sees you only as an extention of herself. You were supposed to be the Texas A&M Aggies Marcel Reed Conner Weigman It’s Time For Texas A&M Shirt Besides,I will do this mirror of her idealized self, because to admit otherwise would require effort an objective awareness on her part to be better. My mom told me she thought I had an eating disorder when I was 5’10” 165 and was lifting 5 times a week. Really fucked me up for a month or two I can’t remember where the study was done or who did it, so if anyone has something on hand to the contrary I implore you to correct me, but I read something that basically said that children in households where one parent is overweight are all but guaranteed to become overweight at some point in their lives. In my case, I was a skinny (but not underweight) child until my obese mother found it appropriate to feed me heaps of junk food in the morning to get me to “eat enough.” Being an obese middle schooler brought on experiences I will never fully recover from. I’ve lost 80 pounds since COVID, and I’m still just this side of overweight, but every time I see her she goes on and on about how I’m “too skinny” and need to ease up off my diet and exercise regimen because it’s “unhealthy.” People who identify heavily with a certain vice or indulgence will frequently become very aggressive in enforcing that behavior with the people around them: this goes for drinking, smoking, drug use, and overeating alike.
Both my parents were/are overweight. Looking back on what I ate as a child is so sad. I was never encouraged to drink water. I drank soda like everyone else in the Texas A&M Aggies Marcel Reed Conner Weigman It’s Time For Texas A&M Shirt Besides,I will do this house. Almost every dinner was major pasta centric. Spaghetti, baked ziti, hamburger helper. Also we would always eat really late at night like 1-2 hours before bed time. My partner now has made me lose nearly 50 pounds in the last two years simply from eating better and having smaller portions. I had a good friend growing up and everyone in his family was morbidly obese. They’d each order 2-3 people’s worth of food at McDonald’s if they went there. He tried to loose weight many times but when he went on a “diet” he’d cut like 50% of his food intake but still be eating a good bit above a normal person’s maintenance so he’d still be fat. I mean cutting 50% of your intake will almost certainly make you lose a ton of weight. You won’t get to skinny without eating normally, but if you’re near equilibrium with your diet and weight, and cut the diet in half, you will absolutely shed weight very quickly.
He’d find this demotivating as cutting 50% of your food intake is psychologically difficult no matter how much you eat. He would tell me a few times about how he tried dieting but it “didn’t work” when actually the Texas A&M Aggies Marcel Reed Conner Weigman It’s Time For Texas A&M Shirt Besides,I will do this problem was he just didn’t go far enough. They’ll also pump you full of Tylenol and hunt for any pill to fix the situation other than consulting a doctor or investing in a gym membership And then people are shocked there are 300lb 12 year olds. Parenting should have a license and a welfare check in. There’s people with money but no brains. And there are people with brains and no money. Fucking stupid world we are in. They don’t even have to be fat themselves, it’s incredible. My older brother used to exclusively call me stuff like “Fatso” when I was little, but when I recently got serious about losing weight and getting into shape, he was like: “Whoa, whoa, stop, don’t starve yourself.” And I’m like eating ice cream after every run because it’s a crime not to eat ice cream in the summer, I am by no means an extreme dieter. When I mentioned my progress to my mom and complained about stubborn belly fat, she said: “Oh that’s alright, you’ll never get rid of that” to “cheer me up.” My grandma still thinks I’m killing myself and it’s unhealthy, and I should eat gigantic portions, even though gigantic portions destroy my digestion, and I’ve been feeling much better eating conservative servings of food. If I wasn’t completely hellbent on getting into shape, they would have made it incredibly difficult to stick with it.
My stick thin dad, that literally watched my aunt get pregnant and give birth 3 times in a span of 4 years, accused her of being on drugs when she decided to to take her healthy seriously. She lost 110lbs, albeit in a very fast amount of time, and ran miles everyday. Compare that to her extremely sedentary habits and absolute over indulgence on junk food before, she’s literally the Texas A&M Aggies Marcel Reed Conner Weigman It’s Time For Texas A&M Shirt Besides,I will do this definition of inspiration and he completely invalidated all that hard work she did for her self. What a prick. I dealt with something similar growing up – I was a very active child and never really had an appetite, and I picked up quickly that it bothered a good part of my family. My mother was overweight my entire childhood and would constantly comment on how I was too skinny/had an eating disorder and my aunt and cousins would agree, but I realized quickly that it all came from something close to jealousy. It was like because I wasn’t eating their sized portions I was making them feel guilty, but instead of correcting their behavior, they wanted me to bend to theirs. Ironically my mother has become super health conscious since I’ve been an adult and now comments in the other direction. Reason number 1000 why I keep her at arms length!
I made a bunch of my friends in college because I smoked cigarettes and that shit followed me the Texas A&M Aggies Marcel Reed Conner Weigman It’s Time For Texas A&M Shirt Besides,I will do this entire time I was there. If you ever stated that you were planning to quit smoking, people would legitimately get mean about it, and there would be this almost instinctive “good friend, bad friend” dynamic where part of the group would give you shit and call you a quitter and actively exclude you from things, while the other part of the group would constantly try to get you to start smoking again. I will admit that I did this as well. It was only after I moved on from that peer group that I was finally able to quit, and then it was surprisingly easy once all the social pressure was removed. But I thought it was because the healthy options are too expensive and its out of their control. Atleast thats what reddit says. she’s not rail thin or anything. She came back probably 20lbs heavier. She said it really sucked. People kept telling her she needed more meat on her bones. And she said it’s not as easy to find fresh produce.
Coming from a rural area, I’d say the Texas A&M Aggies Marcel Reed Conner Weigman It’s Time For Texas A&M Shirt Besides,I will do this biggest predictor for people I’ve known whether or not they became obese was if they moved away for college and stayed away, or else stayed home or moved back. People that left for good stayed thin and most everyone that stayed gets big. Coming from another rural area, I’ve seen this too and I wonder how much of it has to do with poverty. We know poverty is linked with obesity — food deserts, cost of healthy foods, convenience of unhealthy foods, etc. The people who leave and stay gone can afford to live and work in better areas, the people who stay or return will continue (most likely) the cycle of poverty and become obese. Walking probably has a lot to do with it. People in cities, even poor people, are probably thinner cause they walk a lot. This does depend on the city or part of the city though IMO This is a big factor. In rural areas people drive just about every distance that is longer than the length of a car.
It’s very likely those that have the Texas A&M Aggies Marcel Reed Conner Weigman It’s Time For Texas A&M Shirt Besides,I will do this drive and determination and self control to leave the rural area are more likely to show that same inner locus for their diet and weight. Poverty is a cunt, but it’s very realistic to eat well on a budget even if it is harder (frozen vegetables, dried beans, and basic whole food grains are affordable period) In the field of money – I see this even clearer: I find that it’s the obsessive maniacs that really excel but we measure university studies and backgrounds which do matter but your chances of making it to 7 figures is more determined by your thirst for blood, will to throw a million hours at the game and try endlessly. i think you’re leaving out 2 kinda obvious factors: it’s a lot less convenient to eat anything (not just unhealthy food) when you’re away from home, and you’re under less pressure to look your best in a rural area since most people just don’t put in crazy amounts of effort to maintain/up their looks in that environment (let’s be honest, this is most people’s main reason to lose weight/keep it off).
i think ppl usually stay thin when there’s either social pressure, food unavailability/inconvenience or some combination of both, these 2 factors are generally intertwined anyways. most people aren’t athletes or health nuts so they don’t really care about anything else that much. most thin people still eat shit food just less of it. if you were raised in an environment with an abundance of calorie dense food at your fingertips and little to no social pressure to be thin there would be almost no reason/incentive for you not to be a bit fat unless you value athleticism or are chronically ill. I don’t believe that for a bit. Cooking at home is way cheaper than fast food and junk food. I live in nyc and in a rich area, and chicken thigh/legs combo cost 1.5$ a pound.
I wonder how college students living in the Texas A&M Aggies Marcel Reed Conner Weigman It’s Time For Texas A&M Shirt Besides,I will do this closest thing to walkable cities the US has (outside Manhattan) contributes to people retaining healthier habits later in life. Manhattan isn’t even close to be the only walkable city in the US lol. But also yes, I think be used to walking definitely helps. People get out of the habit of walking. I moved from a major city to the middle of Arkansas and have put on nearly 20 pounds in a few years. I just don’t feel motivated to put in the effort on my looks anymore Same deal for me growing up in rural Australia and moving to the city. Haven’t lived rural for 17 years but everyone back home is obese. Not sure if it’s a poor thing, an education thing, a “relationship weight” thing, or a combination of everything. No, no. It’s all genetics, even though genetics hasn’t changed in the last 1000 years but obesity doubled in the last 20 years or whatever. it’s YOUR FAULT this box of krispy kreme original glazed donuts is mm…. so mmrrmmm…so delicious! nomnomnomnom… This is a study that seems pretty obvious, but it’s good to have actual data to support it. Hopefully, the more we study obesity we can find ways to reduce its prevalence. It’s insane to see the predictions on obesity rates 5, 10, 20 years from now. We are headed for a Wall-E world.
There was a similar study about murder… I might be garbling this a little, but if I recall correctly the Texas A&M Aggies Marcel Reed Conner Weigman It’s Time For Texas A&M Shirt Besides,I will do this thing that predicts your chances of getting murdered better than anything else is if you know somebody who was murdered in the last 3 years. What part of town you live in or your own criminal record and all that are much less important than the fact that you’re connected with the kinds of people who occasionally murder each other. So if you, say, drop your cousin off at his friend’s house, and your cousin and/or his friend know people who are in gangs, it’s not really a “freak accident” if you’re caught in the crossfire in a drive-by. It’s pretty sad because people don’t get to choose their family and at a young age they have pretty limited options for choosing friends, too.
As an addict of something else I actually think this is misinterpreted data, rather than being around addicts making you more likely to be an addict, I think that addicts seek each other out in order to enable themselves and avoid shame. Actually, one of my friends told me this. She said that in front of us she won’t eat but that she can “put it away” at home. That she is always known in her circles as the Texas A&M Aggies Marcel Reed Conner Weigman It’s Time For Texas A&M Shirt Besides,I will do this one who eats the less and she eats less in front of everyone because of shame. my friends and i made a pact maybe 10 years ago if any of us got caught getting fat we’d check each other. no hard feelings just all making sure we stayed in shape and didn’t get the bad health effects that come with being overweight I don’t think we should rule out mutual causation here – I’m not saying having overweight friends doesn’t normalise obesity for the individual, but we should consider that people tend to be friends with people with compatible lifestyles and similar experiences.
If you work long hours, eat lots of junk food, work a night shift, are on a lower income, drive everywhere… Most of your friends probably will be too. You didn’t necessarily make each other fat, but you’re shared lifestyle made you compatible and fat. I only have one overweight friend – is that why I’m thin? No, I’m thin because all of my hobbies involve lots of exercise and my friends are thin because our shared interests keep us fit. I met most of my friends at rowing clubs – you know who joins rowing clubs? People who love exercise and have disposable incomes. They’re rarely overweight. Of course, now I’m embedded in a social circle where exercise and healthy living are normalised it’s easy to stay like this. And I can see how if all your friends are unhealthy too it can make it harder to change. But I’d argue our friends don’t make us fat, but they do make it easier to stay that way. We are at our core kind of tribe animals. We follow what other people around us are doing. Now obviously we still have a brain and can think for ourselves but generally speaking we avoid doing things that make us look bad or weird among our peers and we want to fit in. Our friends behavior does affect us. But we can choose our friends. There have been some studies that show that surrounding yourself with smart people can actually increase your intelligence. But of course we usually (outside of social experiments) usually choose friends who are similar to us therefore behaviors and attitudes we already have are reflected back at us as normal.it does work both ways as you said. This knowledge is mostly important if you want to make changes. If you are a smoker and want to quit. That is going to be easier if the Texas A&M Aggies Marcel Reed Conner Weigman It’s Time For Texas A&M Shirt Besides,I will do this people around you aren’t smoking. If you want to loose weight. That is going to be easier if the people around you aren’t overweight (or also working on losing weight). Being surrounded by people who are overweight when you want to loose weight means you are in an environment that normalizes certain unhealthy habits, maybe people will even try to talk you out of changing and it will make you the “outlier” of the group which is something we usually all want to avoid instinctively.
Makes sense. There was a post one time where someone was asking “how do some people not see themselves as fat?” It’s the Texas A&M Aggies Marcel Reed Conner Weigman It’s Time For Texas A&M Shirt Besides,I will do this same concept as an average person in the US being considered fat in Europe and Asia. When I was growing up, being a size 10 was fat. Anything above that, you might as well be obese. It also works in a positive way. If you surround yourself with people who have traits you want to have your are more likely to also start learning these traits. So surrounding yourself with people who go to the fitness studio will make yourself more likely to also go there. There were even studies that showed that if you have smart friends you will also become smarter. That makes perfect sense to me and the reasons should be obvious. Your friends have a particular eating habit and they tend to want to go to places and order the type of food that is either healthy or very not healthy. It makes logical sense that you are likely to dip into the same thing because you’ll be hanging out with them at the same places. This makes sense, as peer and friend groups tend to group around shared interests and food is definitely on the list, as well as activities and hobbies, and things like health awareness.
How does this square with obesity being a disease though? This would seem to imply it’s simply a series of choices and environment more than anything My whole family is obese, and when I visit them, I always put on weight and struggle to get back to my normal eating habits. It’s not just things like Christmas where some over-eating is expected: there is just food everywhere, all the Texas A&M Aggies Marcel Reed Conner Weigman It’s Time For Texas A&M Shirt Besides,I will do this time. Junk food on the kitchen table, snack foods in the cupboards, and then constant eating out. I would love to move back there at some point because I miss them, but it will be hard to maintain my current weight in that environment. Make sense. At least from my experience the opposite is true, spend time around people who care about their health/image and it’ll eventually rub off on you too. Not always, but seen it happen many times. Sometimes people just need enough support and help to convince them it might actually work out, as well as being separated from people who just feed into their insecurities and fears.
