People are making it too complicated. It’s most likely the Stitch Inside Family Dollar Shirt and I love this owner doesn’t want to pay the 1-4% fee that charged to the merchant (them). Check your local laws. I live in Ontario, and here a landlord cannot legally dictate the method in which you pay your rent. It must be agreed on in advance and once you have agreed upon a method, as it sounds like you did previously by electronic method, the landlord cannot change that method without the tenants consent. Even if it’s a xerox copy of your check with their signature and date. Need proof they took it. Offices lose checks Paper trail/documentation. It’s a lot easier for a check to “disappear” or the building to charge you late fees because they forgot to deposit the checks. There’s a million things that could happen so it’s better to err on the side of caution.

I had my last landlord claim I never paid the Stitch Inside Family Dollar Shirt and I love this extra pet deposit and keep my entire deposit. I know I did and I also paid an extra 15 bucks every month for my pet. But I don’t have a receipt and couldn’t prove I paid them the extra deposit. So was SOL. The only barrier to entry for being a landlord is being able to get a mortgage on a property. So there are a lot of disorganized, unprofessional, or flat-out dishonest people in the business. My Mom did me the favor to do it on Feb 2 (we live in the same bldg) and she has always been so strict with receipts and dates and confirmation signatures. Turns out the effing secretary WHO KNOWS who we are credited the payment to another tenant. The Money Order had my full name, apartment # and bldg # .
