Good luck brother, I’m not an alcoholic but I stoped drinking about a month ago for my mental health! Took me a few weeks but now I’m calmer, fitter, stronger, faster . All you can do is attend a meeting and see how you get on, if it isn’t for you there are lots of alternatives available. I used to help me quit smoking, manage my alcohol intake and lose weight/eat better. I’m sure there is one in every county so they may be worth a look. The big step is you’ve realised you have a problem and want to remedy it. As someone that has struggled with all sorts in the Stitch dancing movies palm trê shirt Also,I will get this past I wish you the best of luck, just know you aren’t alone and there is always help available somewhere. I hit 2 years clean and sober on thursday. I do AA. I struggled with the god stuff and choose now to just erase it in my mind. The people are what keep me coming back. Made my best friends there 🙂
Stitch dancing movies palm trê shirt details
Your local authority might fund an alcohol reduction programme, where you could access free health coaching and support. My BIL has been in AA for 11 years now and he’s a sponsor. It’s not quite as religious like you’d expect in America. If you are worried about your drinking, surely it’s better to try and realise it’s not for you and find another resource, then not to try it out and find yourself having another rock bottom moment. I went to my GP and she was amazing though told I must not stop on my own as it would be too dangerous. I was referred to my local addiction team and they were ok n touch very quickly. They arranged a medically supervised detox and medication which helped a lot. I was put on camprall which removes alcohol cravings and Antabuse which prevents me drinking. I still take the Stitch dancing movies palm trê shirt Also,I will get this latter now. Then lots of one to one counselling with a specialist psychologist, which was the key. Sober for over 10years, I put that down to AA. Talking to like minded individuals before and after a meeting really helps. I’m a staunch atheist these days which can make it hard to go now but I’m a big advocate for AA. You just have to realise it’s based in 1930s language and beliefs which need an update. Go along what’s the worst that can happen? If you’re at this point, as am I, then you’ve got to go. I’m not in a position to Judge who is the best at giving out advice to drunks. I got myself in a mess and stayed with a friend for a few weeks. He suggested we do a mini rehab together. He’s big into fitness and never really drank anyway. We spent our time at work all day together, got home and cooked something together and then went to the gym before watching a movie together. Some times it doesn’t have to be as extreme as you’re lead to believe you just need the right support system. Is there anyone like that you know ?
You don’t even have to stay with them like I did, just some company that isn’t centered around the Stitch dancing movies palm trê shirt Also,I will get this pub and alcohol. We’re all different but because of the lessons I was taught I’m able to have a few and enjoy it. I know I was very lucky and friends like that are few and far between but it doesn’t have to be extreme like AA or Turning point. Just someone to go through the journey with you and teach you how to be normal again. Please feel free to reach out to me if you want to talk anymore. It’s a hard thing to kick and it will be something you deal with constantly. But it gets easier and more manageable when you can talk to someone who either supports you or understands the problem. A family member goes to AA. There are different meetings with different levels of religiosity. At the beginning they were going every day to different meetings in the area where they lived; now they have a few where they feel most comfortable. They are not particularly religious.

The main advantage is that you might need a group of people that used to drink to replace the Stitch dancing movies palm trê shirt Also,I will get this group of people that do drink. I’m sober 17 years in AA. Got sober in London. I used to go to the big lunchtime meetings in the west end and you’d have Jew, Muslim, Buddhist, catholic, Protestant, Hindu and even Hare Krishna in the same room. Plus the majority of folk who were atheists, agnostics etc. If AA was a religious cult them folk would have been kicking lumps out of each other rather than helping one another get sober. I’m agnostic and have taken men through the steps who have been atheist, Christian, Muslim and agnostic . I don’t think anyone who is militantly atheist has anything the fear from AA, no one is going to turn them away and no one will ask you to join the moonies, Islam, Christian, Scientology etc etc. AA works for those it works for, but there are other horses in the race. SMART have a lot going for them. But just doing the one thing won’t be a magic cure; recovery is best approached holistically. Be kind to yourself, reward yourself, say, every week or month, access some talking therapy (I’d say the majority of addicts have issues it could be beneficial to address), think about volunteering your time or try something creative. Not drinking gives you a lot of time to suddenly fill up; doing positive things helps hugely. All the best, you’re doing great already. Future you will be grateful.
Dunno about God and aw the Stitch dancing movies palm trê shirt Also,I will get this rest of it and this comment will be buried beneath everything else – But good luck pal. You’re a strong person for going in the first place, whatever you feel about it. Cultish mostly, avoid. Some decent people in them, but also a lot of people who seem rather bitter and devoid of love, and who have turned sobriety into a quasi-religion. They like to judge you, and preach loudly about how long they’ve been sober for, as if it were all about the number of alcoholic drinks. Look into SMART Recovery, and The Sinclair Method. There’s also Thrive Recovery on TikTok, they talk a lot of sense but they’re based in the US. I did my thesis on cults (mostly UFO/higher being ones, but still). And when I started going to AA, it completely freaked me out, because it had all the hallmarks of a cult, and people never leave. But I figured, if it’s trying to do good, then maybe I should just push past it.
I tried about 15 different AA groups across three counties, and the Stitch dancing movies palm trê shirt Also,I will get this most common thing I found was that people were just using it as normal therapy. “Hi, I’m an alcoholic. I’ve been 52 years sober, and I can’t sleep because I’m worried my grandkid hates me.” Stuff like that. And at the time, I was really fucking struggling, and when I tried saying that I don’t know how to stop drinking, I need to stop drinking, I’d just get some wishy washy “take it one minute at a time” shite. There was no immediate or specific help. Also, all of those who say it isn’t religious. It is. They say you can use whatever “higher power” you want, but… there is no higher power if you’re an atheist lol. You HAVE to pick something for it to work, and it’s just exhausting.
It wasn’t helpful for me at all, and I actually found that it started setting me back on my road to recovery. That’s not to say that it won’t work for you OP, and I’d always implore you to give it a try. But what worked for me was a combination of SMART recovery (where they basically went, “look, here’s how your brain is betraying you right now. And here are some hacks to shut it up!”), Sober Faction from TST (for the Stitch dancing movies palm trê shirt Also,I will get this social aspect, and the positive peer pressure to keeping me from stumbling), and joining as many hobby classes as I could physically fit into a week (to keep myself distracted). In my personal experience, AA works primarily on shame. If you relapse, you’re back to day one. And that’s not the kind of energy I needed to heal, y’know? SMART doesn’t say that – they say OK, you made a mistake, but you haven’t lost all the progress you’ve made, and you’re not starting again from scratch. But honestly, I’d say give a few meetings of AA a go. Try SMART. Read some self help books. Join a few online communities. Find whatever helps you, and stick with it. You’ve done the hardest thing by admitting you have a problem, and now you can only start going up.
my higher power is the Stitch dancing movies palm trê shirt Also,I will get this universe. i don’t believe in god and was never compelled to start. you can pick whatever you feel most comfortable with – all you have to accept is that there is something greater than you at work in the world. or, as my sponsor said to me – did you make the sun rise this morning? of course not. so there’s something bigger than you. i have never been shamed in an AA meeting. there are many ways to sobriety. AA is one of them. i’m glad you found something that worked for you. I have always thought AA was a cult. Full of deluded addicts convincing themselves they don’t want to drink or use drugs. Edit: I’m being glib and your remarks about AA are definitely true. There are a lot of things that make me uneasy about it. I attend a single NA meeting a week now (18 months sober…weaning off methadone currently) but it is a small group that involves some lifelong friends (pre and post active addiction); I think the main benefit of any such group is: When you hear people talk about what their addiction did to them you can see immediately “well you should definitely stop taking drugs/drinking it’s been a disaster for you, are you mad?” It sounds silly but addiction is a disease where you learn to never think properly about it, to hide it from yourself, to equivocate and minimise it. Smart recovery does sound good too, but I always found that understanding how my brain was being hijacked by drugs did little to alleviate it.
There may be other mutual aid groups locally. AA is a specific vibe which works for some but not others. If you Google nhs support for alcohol misuse, your local service probably offers group therapy (without long waits) and will advise on local mutual aid. Yes, I went to meetings for a a few months after going sober. Religion can be a part if you want it to be but the Stitch dancing movies palm trê shirt Also,I will get this rule/step is find a higher power to be accountable to, for someone that is a diety but have heard others use other things even a ash tray. At the end of the day you just have to do it, it s brilliant and supportive and really helps to make that permanent change. At the end of the day it won’t kill you to go but it could kill you not too. Ifvyou have anymore questions or need anything else feel free to message me. I am over 1000 days sober.
I was made to attend 4 times a week when I was in rehab last year. It works for some, I’ll freely admit, but personally I think you have to give yourself up to it. Despite the Stitch dancing movies palm trê shirt Also,I will get this protests, you’ll be constantly told it’s not about God, and the name is used for simplicity and you’re welcome to choose one of your choosing. I had an idea to try and wrap my head around the whole thing and was outright told it was stupid and wouldn’t work. That was from the head counsellor. Very useful! You’ll find what works for you. AA wasn’t my thing. CGL do seem quite a decent group, although I’ve been let down by them recently. With that being said, my key worker is furious about how I was treated and is bang on the case. We’ll see what happens.
Never done AA but i did SMART when i quit drinking and found their online meetings amazing. I’m 1153 days sober now. I’d highly recommend them. Give different meetings a try as some are better than others (some hold hands etc others don’t). Tell people it’s your first meeting/s and they’ll say to go every day and keep going. Once you’ve found your regular meeting you’ll want to get service which could be a greeter or tidy upper etc, don’t contribute any money your first weeks, don’t be afraid to give out your number to those who want to help you; it might get a bit overwhelming with people calling you but they’re just checking up. Regarding the Stitch dancing movies palm trê shirt Also,I will get this religious overtone, just try to come to terms with what the word God might mean to you- one old chap said replace the word ‘God’ with ‘Good’ if that helps.
I went to Narcotics Anonymous in England. Very welcoming and friendly. There was a mix of people there from posh to common, medical professional to unemployed. They said “try not to worry too much about the Stitch dancing movies palm trê shirt Also,I will get this God stuff” and explained that the higher power could mean, fate, the group or anything you want it to and most of them were not religious. Try it once. I don’t go regularly and have my own path to recovery but some of the things I learned were very profound. I also recommend the Naked Mind App. I’m trying the Sinclair method to deal with same problem and so far it’s going well. It’s based around the idea of taking medication to reduce and eventually extinguish craving for alcohol. It does not require you to stop drinking but you have to take the medication (Naltrexone) in advance when you do. There’s lots of evidence that it really works. In fact it claims about a 75% success rate. Which is massively higher than any abstinence – based approach. If you haven’t heard of it check out this video.
I have been to groups, not as an AA member but as a support for my now-ex who struggled with alcohol addiction (this is not why we broke up though) AA is, sadly, not quite as hopeful as you might want to believe. I attended about 4 or 5 different “rooms” each a number of times and the Stitch dancing movies palm trê shirt Also,I will get this sad reality is that the majority of adults in these places are not merely alcoholics but also have complex mental health issues that are the root cause of their turning to drink as a coping mechanism. Many attendees try to utilise the rooms as some sort of pseudo personal therapy with often rambling monologues about their troubles. These are not hopeful places. They are depressing dens that exemplify how abjectly miserable the mental health support in this country truly is
Mix this with the Stitch dancing movies palm trê shirt Also,I will get this weird and quite frankly absurd religious overtones (AA is originally a religious thing) and it makes for a very unsettling, cult-like environment. There is a weird philosophy present which is less grounded in “I can take control of my addictions and beat them” and more “my addiction is completely beyond my power so I need a higher power to help me” I had to stop attending with my ex because it genuinely sucked the life out of me. She made some extremely troubled and manipulative “friends” who slowly drove a wedge between her and I as she began to get sucked into the crab-pot of misery If you are to attend, more power to you mate, but you need the will-power and internalised sense of self-preservation to truly beat any addiction to alcohol.
My better advice is to seek therapy and take a good look at how your habits might be putting you into situations where alcohol is more accessible. If you’re in London feel free to reach out for a chat in my DMs It’s a mixed bag like everything in life. Just go and make your own mind up. Don’t be down or ashamed if it’s not for you- it’s not for everyone! 12 steps isn’t the Stitch dancing movies palm trê shirt Also,I will get this only way to get and stay sober. There’s SMART and Inclusion is a good free nhs run place to go to, they have a hub in most towns/cities. Don’t be suckered into what people at 12 step programmes believe- that their way is the ONLY way. It can be quite culty like that. I went for 2 years and left 2 years ago and I’m 5 years clean soon. So by no means is the 12 step rooms the only place to find recovery. It worked for me until it didn’t anymore and that’s okay, I moved on and found my own path with recovery. All I can say is that I have no desire to use any substance whatsoever, the idea turns my stomach now.
My advice, for what it’s worth is to do this: go to the Stitch dancing movies palm trê shirt Also,I will get this meeting. If nothing else it will break your evening cycle and force you to do something different. I never went to AA but I did force myself to break my habit of reaching for the booze every evening by doing different things to keep myself and my mind busy. My understanding of the whole “higher power” thing is that it’s not a god. It’s whatever you need it to be. It can be something like a vision of you walking your daughter down the aisle in 20 years time. It is something that means more to you than the booze. That’s because it is. AA is basically a religious cult. It was founded by a former alcoholic who claimed he had divine visions after taking belladonna.
It still states that its core purpose is to bring about total abstinence from alcohol through “spiritual awakening”. People don’t see it as a cult because it’s been legitimised (and, obviously, it was founded in the Stitch dancing movies palm trê shirt Also,I will get this US) but it absolutely is… There are many people in AA who don’t believe in god. It definitely started with very strong religous connections, but it is a lot more abstract spiritually now. I wouldn’t advise someone not to try it because of problems with religion. It’s really common in AA to have struggle with the higher power stuff. There’s only really one club for drinkers and it’s AA. Ignore the religious stuff, I’m over 2 years sober because of the (mostly) lovely people there. I did NA rather than AA, the same thing though. It is a bit religious but not in a religious way really, although I am a Catholic so perhaps I’m less touchy about it. It’s about a higher power and spiritual healing which, for many in white Christian countries, including the founders, takes the form of Christianity. There are some religious people, there are far more many who are not religious and treat God as a proxy for wellbeing, family life, general health. Good luck with it, although it’s not luck you need, it is willpower and injections of libirum… You can do it mate.
Going to AA stopped my out of control drinking, and also taught me that gossip is often negative. It has flaws, but it also has a great effect on people who commit to working the Stitch dancing movies palm trê shirt Also,I will get this steps. The 12 steps don’t do it for everybody, and actual groups using the 12 steps are human, flawed, every room is unique. But there is a good knowledge of drinking, and it’s pitfalls, and of addiction, and it can uplift you when you at your lowest . I’d say try a few meetings, see how it goes. I’ve went along to NA meetings to support friends and such on their sobriety journeys. They generally found it to be helpful, but I wasn’t a fan of it. I really didn’t like the whole “you’re powerless over your addiction” thing, but if it works for so many people, there has to be something in it. I saw a lot of willpower and strength in the people I met. There were people in every group who were obviously swapping one addiction for another, attending as many meetings as they could squeeze into every day. One guy wore his chips around his neck on a massive necklace. I guess those people could do a lot worse than swapping an isolating and self-destructive habit with another habit of community, support, and a sense of belonging.
