I worked a holiday seasonal gig at a distribution center (warehouse) for a category of company that sees most of its business around Christmas. Mind you this was right as everything was on its way back up and there were plenty of jobs. almost 90% of the department that made the most money quit that week and the company went into a frenzy to keep people and figure out why everyone was leaving.

We get no bonuses ever, so if we work extra hard and hit or exceed that goal the workers won’t see an extra dime all the profits go to management. They get a big bonus so we have no incentive to hit those goals. But they just don’t understand that last 2 years we did hit the goals and when it came to raise time we got less than the minimum as they said a bigger raise is not in their budget. Such loads of BS!! A company i worked for had a great bonus plan that really rewarded performance. Had 25 to 40% growth and EVERYONE from top to bottom got paid well. Company next year changed incentive plan in half because they were pissed they had large payouts that exceeded their compensation budget. They sure didnt complain about “extra profits” over budget though. That year Company grew only 15%, and everyone got paid but less. Year 3, They then cut all but managers from bonus plans. Managers plans were cut so they could make no more than 5% bonus. Sales people got very limited bonus for exceeding targets. Everyone else cut completely. Result: 75% of sales staff left and 50% of managers were recruited from competition. Company sales tanked and profits went losses for the next 5 years. Stock dropped 65%. president got “let go”. All because they were cheap and could not handle paying people for performance. Company got what it deserved.
