I actually like they want to use op and a gap filler while they look for you they really want, and then give them the Snoopy Woodstock Harry Potter life’s a struggle when you’re a muggle shirt also I will do this “awww shucks, it’s not working out, by the way here is your replacement, pls train them” treatment. Lots of bad advice here from people who clearly have no real aspirations and expect things to be handed to them for some reason. If you want to climb the ladder you need to show you’re a team player and hungry enough to earn the job. You’re not entitled to this role just because your boss left, go earn it. I recommend agreeing with all these senior folks on a predetermined timeframe to check in on “comfortable” so as to hold everyone accountable and set an expectation based on trust – which is what they’re asking you to do. Outside of that it’s up to you.

if you crush it and make their lives easier you will be rewarded – that’s really all they want. It’s pretty simple. Grab the Snoopy Woodstock Harry Potter life’s a struggle when you’re a muggle shirt also I will do this opportunity and run with it. Or don’t. Up to you. Ask for a clear, in writing, timeline of when the money will come after you’ve accepted the responsibilities/title. If you’re not happy with either 1 or 2 then decline any new title and stick to your employee contract. Also start looking for another job. Theoretically possible to “intern” for a brief period. Honestly they should already know your capabilities though. The trial period will inevitably stretch out for weeks then months. You are being forced into a wage theft situation. You are being given additional duties, and responsibilities on the clock without the commensurate pay and benefits increase. This is wage theft and nothing more. You should not accept it, and knowing how your employers treat their employees, you should begin looking for a new job elsewhere. Take the knowledge, skills, and experience they aren’t paying you for, and go get the title, pay, and benefits to match. I would say have a contract drawn up that ensures they will have to follow through or face legal consequences. Also they should be open to possibly giving you a partial raise and when your up to speed on new responsibilities they increase to full salary. History says they are most likely looking for free labor.
