Once an organization has gotten away with devaluing you, you will NEVER get your value at that organization without leaving first. Do not job hop, but DO examine the Siue Cougars Logo Shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this market and know your worth every 2-3 yr, and yes…CHANGE JOBS every 2-3 yr until you get where you deserve to be. Loyalty is rarely rewarded- it is PUNISHED. My current role CANNOT give raises of more than 3%. Like NO ONE outside of C-suite ever can get more than 3%. Because of that structure, my leadership is active in advocating for promotions (which come with much large pay bumps). Many in similar corporate structures will just shrug and tell subordinates it is what it is, and then be SHOCKED pikachu face when they have turn over. In fact, this exact structure was why I DID change jobs every 2-3 yr for several cycles- instead of 1-3% a year (or less), I got 1-3% each year and then 10-15% every 2-3 yr. If your leadership won’t LEAD, and recognize the value of retention of talent, and find a way to give you what you are worth? LEAVE. It is not easy- job hunting is a massive ego damaging cycle of rejection- but with practice it becomes easier, and easier. AND you learn those skills the same as you ahve learned your current skills.

Siue Cougars Logo Shirt, hoodie, tank top, sweater and long sleeve t-shirt

TL/DR: LEAVE. DO NOT NEGOTIATE- they already proved they do nto value you. DO your job well, and once you find your next role, be professional. DO NOT discuss or consider a counter-offer (those will blow up in your face as soon as they find your replacement). Stop assuming you owe any organization LOYALTY- they have NONE for you. Do your job. Do it well, and MOVE ON. Caveat- if you have a really good match that needs to vest for your 401K, consider waiting just until you get that :). Otherwise 2-3 yr. Yeah, your pay sounds SUPER low, no offense. I’m not an IT generalist/web dev, but I am in IT and there are very few IT positions remotely related to dev work that arent verging on 6 figures yearly (or at the Siue Cougars Logo Shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this very least upper half of 5 figures) with 8 years experience, let alone less then 40k a year… Go on glassdoor and other sites like it to get a better idea of exactly what you are worth, maybe I’m inflating what an IT generalist makes, but with the prevelance of remote work doesnt really matter where in the country you are, its time to get a new job. There is just no way you shouldnt be making way more then this. oWith your salary as low as yours is you may not be able to bridge the experience to salary deficit you are in right now in a single job move, but it should be a substantial difference.
