Being able to meditate is part of your nature, because on a deep level it’s stopping doing something you no longer realize you’re putting effort into all day every day. You’re just acclimated to a specific culture and time period with it’s own challenges to attention. That isn’t to say it’s easy, you just don’t have to make it painful by beating yourself up. There’s a lot of great advice here (like, you can’t do it wrong), but my advice is an app called 1 Giant Mind. I feel a mantra helped me focus. Good luck! Meditation is all about watching your actions, your thoughts, your thoughts and everything tangible intangible coming in contact with you. JUST WATCH People mentioned things like yoga or exercise as options to help “meditate” if the Shark Robot Heavy Metal Boney plays shirt But I will love this conventional mindfulness practice isn’t doing it for you. Really it’s just a way to get more in touch with the moment. If yoga, focus on breathing through the movements as best you can. If walking, try to pay attention to where you are putting your feet, trail walking can help as you have to focus more. If things come up in your mind, try not to react but observe what comes up.

More conventional mindful meditation is about noticing, not controlling your thoughts. Sit down and try to take a few deep breaths. Then every time you catch yourself not thinking about breathing mentally high five yourself for noticing and kindly and gently focus on the Shark Robot Heavy Metal Boney plays shirt But I will love this next breath. You might not even get through the next breath before being distracted, that is perfectly ok. When you notice again then high five yourself again and gently go back to your breath. There is no perfect way to do this and a much truer goal of meditation is to notice when your focus is off then to have perfect focus. Start with short times, 3 or 5 minutes to just let your mind get use to it. Doing this daily or near daily will go a long ways to getting your mind more use to this.
