Casting Directors and Producers who want drama. You have legends like Raja or Sasha Colby, who have been doing drag since before the wheel was even invented. Queens that have refined and elevated their drag over the years and are mostly just doing Drag Race as a victory lap. You have young queens who had polished aesthetics, but were rough around the edges when it came to certain talents that Drag Race requires, like Violet or Tyra. They failed at most comedy challenges but impressed with their dedication to their craft and their immense potential. You have queens who were very talented in the acting department, who had refined a persona but their drag itself was very rough, like Jinkx. When the winners are all varied in terms of talents, aesthetics and personalities, then the cast has to be as well. Some queens are not quite there yet in terms of polished drag, but they have the charisma and talent to be a star. Sometimes it doesn’t even take much for things to click in place, and a crash course on the show can do wonders. Giving them the opportunity can really help out in the long run. Are you crunchy because you’re a crunchy queen and that’s your brand? or are you crunchy because you haven’t fine tuned your makeup skills before coming to the Olympics of Drag? Drag Race tests so many different skills—makeup, fashion, comedy, singing, acting, dancing, sewing, the list goes on and on. But everyone has weaknesses and I don’t think it’s fair to say that any one skill is absolutely required, period, no questions asked. As viewers we determine what’s important to us and what we can look past.

Yes, as I mentioned they should always be open to growing and learning. I would say that Crystal came with her best aesthetic and she was open to learning and growing. Plane Jane came to win drag race. She’s hungry for it, and in her eyes anyone who isn’t there to win might as well not be there. Now, of course every queen should aspire bring their best, but not every drag queen is about aesthetics. It’s not RuPauls School for Girls. It’s always so nice to see the queens grow as people and artists, but you should have at least 1 area of drag that you have developed and refined to be successful in terms of the show. I’ma pick convenience and ease every time. I would say a good starting place for anyone: -skincare first, a good cleanser without active ingredients and a good moisturizer -tinted moisturizer -spot concealer -mascara and curler (you’ll be prying my curler out my dead hands it is the Shaquille O’neal Orlando Magic Vintage T-Shirt But I will love this shining fucking star of makeup) -a liner (I personally like very very fine brush applied gels and water activated liners – I have deep set eyes and very little lid space to work with so it’s tightline or bust. For brands, I would recommend starting with affordable drug store brands until you have an idea what investment brands you might want to try. ELF, NYX, Burt’s bees, Maybelline, are some I use. I don’t use foundation / concealer / bronzer much. but I do use eyeshadow, eyeliner and mascara like religion. not bc my skin is perfect, but bc I like looking mostly natural. it’s not for everyone. if you just like eyeliner, don’t feel pressured to do more. if you want to do more, add eyeshadow and mascara. if you want to do more past that, start with foundation. then so on so forth girl to girl, please don’t cake your face esp if u have sensitive skin! start with tinted moisturizer IF u want a base and 1 thin layer does the job (fenty has a nice one)! but if u want to start simple, some concealer here and there works great (tower28 has a good one is made specifically for sensitive skin). best tip is start minimal~ “no makeup makeup”. my routine usually only consists of a little bit of benefit brow pencil (on the tails), tower28 concealer, makeup by mario skin enhancer as bronzer and eyeshadow, peripera powder blush (korean makeup is cheap on yesstyle), and rare beauty mascara (or drug store). i wear eyeliner only if i’m feeling brave enough lol. plz don’t feel like u need to put makeup on because of a s/o, it takes the fun away from makeup!! also because u said u have sensitive skin, get yourself an oil cleanser to wash your makeup off instead of using wipes (which makes my sensitive super raw and inflamed). oil cleanser then water based cleanser. i’m using anua’s oil cleanser then cerave’s foaming face wash.
