If you are one of the White people who says “I don’t see race” or “I don’t see color” or “I don’t care if you’re black, white, or purple….”, you might be in that bucket. The better option is to see Blackness and Whiteness, to recognize that in this country there are certain experiences and identities associated with Blackness and Whiteness, and to take some time out to learn what those are and how they do and do not differ from one another. And then, without trying to ignore or downplay those different experiences, ask yourself what equality would look like. I don’t know why some people find it offensive to reference someone’s skin colour as a descriptor. It’s the same as saying the “blonde” or “brunette”. It’s fine to acknowledge that people have different skin colours. It’s not like you are being offensive or discriminatory in any way.
