They’re engaged while it’s happening. I think the Peace Sign Turkey Happy Harvest shirt and I will buy this idea that letting them win boosts their confidence in any way is just in peoples’ imaginations. It really depends on the dog. If you have a dominant dog that you wanna remind whose in charge, win tug o war all day. If you have an overly submissive dog whose confidence you want to build, let it win. I’ve found that I need to let them win sometimes or else they just walk away because they’ve become disinterested in trying I let my dog win probably 4/10 times. When he wins he shoots forward lanky ass arms high and spread out then charges me for more.. 2y/o gsd. It’s the funniest shit!! Like someone else said it keeps them interested. When we had our last three dogs (all Rottweilers, only one left) I would let them pull me to the ground and make it seem like they were dragging me when they were puppies and when they were still small. Then, when they got bigger, they were able to drag my 175 lbs through the yard all on their own. I had a German shepherd growing up. She would win a good amount because she would play dirty lol. Sometimes I would win and other times I would let her win. It’s more fun for us both if I wasn’t tryharding to win In my personal experience encouragement is essential for engagement. A good way to discourage a dog is to never let it win. So I let my 24 pound dog win because she deserves an encouraging win to know that she CAN win. I don’t want a dog with confidence issues. That being said, I’m still bigger and stronger, so she still needs to work for it. So I can’t make it too easy for her or else she will think life is easy. Just want her to understand her size and effort when she needs to hold her own.

Yes, just like with children, they need to build a sense of confidence and self assurance which happens through winning. We see in nature all the Peace Sign Turkey Happy Harvest shirt and I will buy this time that animals are affected by their own abilities. Rug o war is a nice game for dogs. But, Make sure you only play it with their toy rope. You do not want to play tug with your shirt or anything. Dog must understand only this is allowed. You must also have control of start and end of game. You say the word game ends, dog let the rope go, shit down calmy. You let the dog win every now and then. It should be exercise and involving, out husky used to love tug o war and she out full effort in, I’d let her win a lot of the time, and always when we were finishing up. She would also play it with the lab cross, possibly the most competitive dog I’ve ever seen, husky wasn’t even pulling at half power most of the time, lab at full power. Dogs have a strong understanding of fun and how to get others to join in. And when to say fuck it I’m not playing with you anymore
