As someone who has been signed off with anxiety and successfully returned to work, let me reassure you that it’ll be okay. Just take it easy and speak up if things are not going so well. I’m so happy for you to have had that opportunity to heal and that you have an understanding employer. I’m currently a student but I work quite regularly and it’s so positive that some employers do care about mental health. I have had occasions where I haven’t been able to go to work due to sporadic a&e admissions and crisis. But I’ve always found that once you get a good employer work becomes enjoyable and a good coping strategy. I couldn’t think of anything without my work it keeps me focused and helps provide that route into having a good life. I can relate, I’ve just had 3 weeks off due to my mental health and I’m scheduled to go back on Friday, they’ve arranged a wellness meeting to see how I am, what they can do, etc but there is still a lot of anxiety about going back and this fear that even though they’re acting like they care, they’ll turn around and fire me two seconds later. It’s definitely important to prioritise your mental health though! This isn’t the first time I’ve taken a month off for my mental health and the first time I also ended up in hospital cause I went back too soon and slipped even further into a depression. It’s always good to listen to what your mind and body are telling you and give it the break it needs. Oh bless you, I was hospitalised last year after the birth of my son. I’m currently signed off with severe complex mental health issues I feel so much guilt about it – I am autistic, Adhd and cptsd, partner says I should add all the letters to the end of my name . I tried to run away at the weekend, not sure where I was going but I’m feeling better now. I hope you keep going from strength to strength in your healing and I hope the same for me too!
