Here’s how I’d break things down: -The biggest problem, to me, was that Batman himself was super mundane. Batman doesn’t travel in plain sight… -Further, the fact that Gordon kept up with him the majority of the movie and was doing all of the same things he did just removes the Batman mystique. He’s not gonna feel like a superhero if a middle aged slightly overweight cop is by his side the whole time. He’s just another cop who happens to dress up as a bat. -The Batman/Gordon as partners vibe felt wrong. The Penguin joked about it. They’re not supposed to be partners and it’s not an equal relationship. Batman is not supposed to be at Gordon’s beck and call, he shows up when he pleases and leaves when he pleases. -The scene of Batman passed out and coming to surrounded by cops was really bad. Batman would NEVER let himself get in that situation, he gets made to look VERY incompetent here. And the cops wait until he’s waking up to try and take off his mask? Then after that the way he escaped was made to look like slapstick comedy. -I think Penguin probably had the most potential and he should have been the main villain instead. But he didn’t get much screentime and was made to look too incompetent and there was too much slapstick.

Except the Joker’s motivation here was spelt out well. He had the whole act with the two ferry’s and how he wanted people to turn on each other. He also corrupted Dent who was Gotham’s symbol of hope. What… exactly was the Riddler trying to do here? There was nothing specific.
