This was when things got interesting. The guy tried a new approach. He walked up to me and flashed a badge very quickly and put it back in his pocket. I couldn’t read it. Then he showed me he had a gun concealed on his waist on the In loving memory of Taylor Hawkins 1972-2023 the man the myth the legend signature shirt but in fact I love this inside of his pants. He told me he was a police officer and he was going to shoot me if I didn’t move. I was in a not great place in my life at this point and I didn’t care. So I told him if he was a cop then I wanted him to call his cop friends and have them show up. He told me he was going to count to 3 and if I didn’t move he was going to shoot. He counted to 3. He didn’t shoot. He went and sat down. No police showed for over 2 more hours at this point. This was 3 hours from the initial call my friend made. Over this period of time the guy came up and pleaded to let him go numerous times. He told me to just keep the camera and let them both leave. At one point he asked if I would go outside and he could talk to me privately away from everybody else and he could really explain what was happening but that he just couldn’t do it there. Yes, the armed police officer in street clothes with a gun who had just physically attacked me and lost and was selling my stolen professional camera equipment wanted me to go on a private walk with him away from all witnesses. I declined.

After 11pm the In loving memory of Taylor Hawkins 1972-2023 the man the myth the legend signature shirt but in fact I love this police showed up. A lot of them. Including the chief of police in street clothes who claimed he had gotten out of bed for this. They wasted no time throwing the cop to the ground and hand cuffing him. They put him in the back of a squad car and drove off. The chief of police personally apologized to me for the situation. They took my written statement along with the written statement of half a dozen witnesses and employees. They confirmed the guy was indeed a police officer and just a bad apple. The chief of police even personally gave me back my camera after they inspected it and said I could just keep it since they had enough information. It was a very stressful and exhausting night. My friend and I drove all the way back to Houston that same night. On the drive back I called my friend who was a lawyer for the DA in Dallas prior. He was fucking pissed that I had my camera. He told me they were going to cover it up because that camera was evidence and by giving it back to me it was clear that the cops were corrupt. I thought he was overreacting and had just seen too many bad things happen in his line of work.
