Which often have relatively high markups, yes, but I don’t think my statement was limited to any group by the I’m Not Old Classic Car Custom Built Performance 60th Birthday Retro T-Shirt but in fact I love this use of some. My point is the corporations are manipulating the market to stagnate wages at slave labor rates. The math checks out, you can’t make huge profits if you make clothes for higher costs and sell them at reasonable rates. You have to cut someone’s check out somewhere in the process. Designers who make super high end clothes do the same thing they just pay workers more up front and charge more to the consumer. Old navy makes a killing selling cheap clothes because they pay workers poverty wages. Designers aren’t real people anymore. There are brand name corporations and a bunch of people juicing every last drop of money out of some dead persons name all to appease people who just want to prove they’re better than everyone else. And if the designer is not dead I assure you they are not hand stitching all their clothing or even overseeing every piece they sell. They make 1 design and then have others figure out how to make it cost effective. Then the warehouse further degrades the quality to ensure profits, therefore watering down any real creativity just so rich people can feel superior. Designer labels only exist in truth if you find a local seamstress and have them take your measurements and design 1 piece of clothing for you. That’s what’s a designer does.
