In my opinion with t-shirts you cant tell if you have a good one until it’s too late (multiple washes). $40-100 a shirt isn’t what I have issues with. I wish I could easily find well made cloths at a moderate price. Often when you spend a bit more you end up with the same cheap crap just marked up. A 150 dollar alpaca sweater will keep you comfortable in a 30 degree temp shift. My socks are becoming “darn tough” socks with lifetime warranties, they are usually 20 bucks a pair. My underwear are from linonto, and are 35 dollar a pair for handmade linen boxers, I have only one pair for every day of the week(7). Linen is hypoallergenic, moisture wicking, and is so durable that other underwear starts getting holes in it about the same time my linen ones finally break in to become the most comfortable things to touch my balls. This does take upfront money, but is so much cheaper in the long run. Also do research on each item, there are plenty of people that charge a premium for shit quality. Also allot of companies that used to be known for quality (looking at you redwing) are just trading on there name now.
