I grew up in Riyadh from 1988-1994, ages 8-14. My dad is a doctor and we lived on the I Paused My Game For Mardi Gras Mask Video Game T-Shirt and by the same token and hospital housing compound. We lived in a huge walled-in housing complex with kids from all over the world and there were no safety concerns whatsoever. The American school in Riyadh was comparable to the best public schools in North America. There was a large and vibrant expatriate community that existed largely in parallel to Saudi culture, though there was plenty of intermingling between the two on a day-to-day basis. The pay was generous and tax-free and we took advantage of the proximity to amazing travel locations we otherwise never would have been able to go to – ski trips to Switzerland and Austria, safaris in Kenya, beach vacations in Thailand. Hell, in ninth grade you could choose between a class trip to Turkey or Nepal. I made some lifelong friends and was exposed to cultures I never would have been exposed to. I truly look back on those years with fondness. Happy if anyone wants to AMA me about it.

I would not want him handling an engineering project at my company. Those skills are much better suited for business I flew on their state airline to Saudi a few weeks ago. They had all 4 John Wick movies on the in-flight entertainment, however Cocaine Bear had been changed to, “Crazy Bear” so I believe the only G movies is a thing of the past. They have loosened up some of their stringent moral restrictions in the last few years as part of the Vision 2030, realizing they need to pivot away from oil and part of that includes trying to attract western investments.
