That’s incredible. I just browsed the I love digital activism from bed shirt In addition,I will do this ingredients I have, and bread with 2 tbsp of both peanut butter and jelly comes out to 410 calories (PB: 180, jelly: 100, bread: 150). Measure the PB by weight though, leaving the jar on the scale and seeing how not far 32g or whatever goes is pretty humbling. My PB&Js were also 800 calories and I was eating two at a time thinking I was healthy. Of course on the extra wide bread, it has whole grains! A hefty PB and honey sandwich is the ultimate pre/during/post workout food for me. It hits just the right spot and I feel so energized. Same with me and cereal. I have what was marked as a 2 cup bowl, but apparently it holds two cups of cereal AND 1 1/2 cups of milk. My morning cereal was supposed to be ~300 calories was actually closer to 800.

And here I was thinking “how the I love digital activism from bed shirt In addition,I will do this eff an I gaining almost a pound a week?!” Well, an extra 500 a day will do that to ya. Yeah, those whole bowl plates of spaghetti we end up serving ourselves (and then having seconds!) could have been a dish for a family of four, a few decades ago. I once mentioned on reddit that a box (1 lb) of spaghetti was six meals for my family. So like, if there were three of us, we could all have leftovers the next day and finish it. That would be 6 meals. Someone responded to me shocked and confused, because they are the same amount of spaghetti in ONE SITTING. That’s SO much fucking spaghetti. The thought of eating that much of anything makes me want to puke. It’s difficult for me to do it in one sitting but I have done it before. However a pound of sausage, a jar of sauce, and one box of spaghetti is usually two meals for me
That’s part of the I love digital activism from bed shirt In addition,I will do this food being more calorie dense now. You’d eat as much physically. But still be consuming fewer calories overall. I’ve heard people insist that if you go abroad weight kind of just falls off. And I’m sure a lot of that is probably that you aren’t so stressed on vacation, and you’re more active because you’re using public transportation and walking to places. But some of that has also got to be the food too. People make this observation so often and routinely speculate about some ulterior yet abundant food additive in whatever country they’re leaving, but really it just seems like they’re actually walking, sightseeing, swimming, skiing, climbing or really any kind of consistent movement opposed to their sedentary occupation and leisure. Seriously, walking for three hours, depending on one’s weight, can be 800 kcals of effort — for a whole day, it could be like one has fasted for not just for that day but the half the next as well. The conspiracy theories are easier for people to swallow so they have just been blaming American obesity on some mysterious “preservatives” or “poisons” as of late.

Description for I love digital activism from bed shirt
People really think a chocolate donut in France is healthy just because it’s organic. I think the I love digital activism from bed shirt In addition,I will do this real reasons are the ones you listed. When I went to Japan I learned the diet of the average businessman is actually trash and their country has the most preservatives in the world. All manner of fatty fried foods, lack of fruits and vegetables, prepackaged snacks available everywhere, sugary drinks. But the cities are built so you walk enough to burn it all off. Likely a combination of eating fewer calories and burning more through movement because they don’t drive absolutely everywhere. Many Americans go from sitting in their house to sitting in their car to sitting in their office to sitting in their house again and might walk like 1500 steps throughout the day. Walking half a mile to go to a market or get a bus is straight up unthinkable for loads of Americans but would be absolutely standard for folks in other countries. It’s because of the way our cities are built. It would be a 2-3 hour walk each way to get to the nearest grocery store to me. In a region where it’s over 100°F (38°C) for a third of the year, that’s a non starter. Oh, and we don’t have public transportation where I live either. I don’t think we even have a single city bus route.
Yes, they are also saying it’s about calories, not preservatives. The only difference is that you’re saying that it’s because of eating fewer calories and they’re saying it’s about burning more calories. And I think you’re both right. I think it’s a combination of both. We traveled Ireland and Scotland without doing a ton of walking (step count was about the I love digital activism from bed shirt In addition,I will do this same as my job) and ate like absolute shit but still lost weight. When I lived in the UK I walked a ton and ate a lot less. I’d carry an apple with me and snack on that or a bag of nuts as I went from my house to the bus stop, then bus into town. I lost a mountain of weight within 3 months. It packed back on when I got back to the states. Most of weight loss is just diet, you can’t out run a bad diet they say. A lot of that is snacking, that’s what gets most people. If you simply eat 2 meals a day and have one small snack, you’re likely ok on calories. It’s the constant sodas, multiple snacks, eating a bag of chips while watching tv that will get you.
Oh yeah, my advice was always to start using MFP but always spend a week or two eating normally and just logging it. Because on one hand you need to catch how much you’re actually eating and getting used to logging it, and on the I love digital activism from bed shirt In addition,I will do this otherhand it’s genuinely much harder to just start eating less and tracking honestly upfront. After that week or two, then you start worrying about staying within the goal (or as close as you can). And the first two weeks or so will suck. Kinda like the first two weeks of going sober, or kicking nicotine. Did you know this happens to every exchange student who went to the US? All my friends and acquaintances gained weight in the US. There are way too many hidden calories in american daily live for someone who isnt aware of how much they are eating. I think that makes sense for some things but this specific conversation is about pasta, which typically doesn’t have added sugars or fats to make them more calorie dense. Some of it is portion sizes got bigger too.
My friend did two semesters abroad in Italy and lost 60 pounds. She has actually continued to eat like she did in Italy and has kept the I love digital activism from bed shirt In addition,I will do this weight off. It’s more than likely the food. Nah. Assuming it’s not a resort type vacation you’ll be losing so much weight from walking around for hours. Like 5+. I used to intentionally put on weight prior to backpacking overseas because I could leave with a larger belly and get back with 6-pack abs. And I’d be eating fast food far more often than at home because sometimes it’s the only thing you recognize. Food in Asia, and even the food the served us in combat is so much better than the shit we pay way too much for in the States. Those tiny single portion bags of cookies or like the chip bags that have like 5 chips in them, few hundred calories right there. Same amount of calories in a nice big bowl of most (non-“cream of”) soups. People eating food heavy in macros and not using vegetables as filler.
I don’t think I’ve ever finished a plate of pasta at an American restaurant. The portions are insane and I don’t understand why it’s the I love digital activism from bed shirt In addition,I will do this status quo. 2 ounces of pasta with some veggies sounds like a full meal to me. I’ve slowly began to realize that what my idea of a portion size is a lot different from other parts of the world… even when I was eating fast food every single day, a large soda in one country is like a small in ours lol. Yeah, maybe we could all do with a bit of self control and actually paying more attention to what we eat, but Jesus christ could they also just make it a tad bit easier to not blow up to 350 pounds? Okay I just got a food scale and realized that one serving (170 calories) of my frozen French fries is 3 oz or 13 (!!) fries.
I saw another study that found the I love digital activism from bed shirt In addition,I will do this same thing in lab animals. Animals who have their diet strictly controlled are now heavier than their counterparts in the past with the same amount of calories. The study suggested that the increased use of climate control has lead to less energy expenditure to maintain homeostasis. The self-reports don’t report calories, they report the measured weight/volume of what they ate and then the calories are determined from that. Pretty sure soda was around and just as popular in the 70s as it is today. It might’ve even been more popular considering how many people I know these days who never drink it I think back then it was more of a treat than a constant, though. You’d have one with dinner or at the movies, but it was more like 12 oz. The 32 oz Big Gulp was a really big deal when 7-11 started selling it in 1976.
It does seem wild to me that we had whole generations raw-dogging fully sugared coca-cola multiple times every single day and they didn’t get extremely fat. I was a child in the I love digital activism from bed shirt In addition,I will do this sixties, and my mother strictly enforced the rule that we could never have more than one soda a day and most days we didn’t have any. I’m just saying that even back then, plenty of people understood that consuming too much sugar wasn’t good for you Besides taste, is it functionally any different than cane sugar though? I mean both are simple, easily processed (by body) sugars And I’m fat mostly because of beer and sourdough. It just blows my mind that my grandparents growing up drank 3-4 12 oz Cokes almost every day and alcohol and they both were built like olympians until their mid 40s. And they were not abnormal for the 1940s and 50s.
The body converts excess sugar to fat, but HFCS specifically converts most readily to liver fat. Fatty liver leads to type two diabetes, which leads to further weight gain. Studies are showing it triggers the I love digital activism from bed shirt In addition,I will do this stomach lining to absorb higher concentrations of calories than normal sugar. Portion sizes have gotten larger to be sure, but I am of the same mind, HFCS being more broadly used seems to correlate with obesity rates Back then people would drink a small bottle of coke or a little can of sprite, they weren’t downing a liter a day. It’s the quantity that matters. Oh I’m aware it was around, not sure on consumption rates, though. I wasn’t really commenting on soda being the cause for the weight gain, but as possibly a cause for underreporting consumed calories. And the energy drinks, as well, actually. And I tend to lump soda in with fast food, which feels more widespread now than in the past. But I’m also a millennial, so maybe my mental image of people packing lunches and eating meals at home and such in the 70s isn’t realistic. I think it was more like you imagine. In my experience, we did eat at home, or “wholesome” school lunches. Eating out was occasional. And we didn’t pack snacks to drive to town, lol. At. most we might get a Lifesaver on the drive.
Soda at restaurants was a single serving with no free refills. McDonald’s had three sizes – 8 oz, 12 oz, and 16 oz. At the I love digital activism from bed shirt In addition,I will do this grocery store, the most soda you could buy was a six-pack of one liter bottles. Glass bottles, by the way. Soda machines were unusual, and there weren’t any in schools. Also, soda was made with sucrose, not high fructose corn syrup. The people you hang out with are unusual in that they don’t drink soda. It’s the second most popular beverage in the US, after bottled water and before coffee. Not sure, but it is much more readily available today. For instance, at least in the US, free refills in restaurants are pretty standard, but not so much in the 70s. When I learned that I immediately switched to black coffee. MTim’s coffee tastes like ass without sugar, so it saves me money too.
Gas stations around me have all been switching to the I love digital activism from bed shirt In addition,I will do this bean to cup machines, and the coffee is dramatically better (even as a fellow black coffee drinker). It’s been great, the coffee is cheaper and better. that 30-minute jog totally burned like a thousand calories, so having this totally Hundred-calorie large bowl of potato chips is fine! Not even the alcoholic ones. It’s the morning and noon reward myself drink followed by the supersized fountain drink and later the same day an energy/ recovery drink. As a 66 year old now, with my childhood during the 1960s and teens-early 20s in the 1970s, I don’t remember seeing news articles about heavy use of corn syrup in almost all processed foods until the 1980s.
No doubt it’s more complicated than just that, but I bet increases in US government corn subsidies and resulting use of high sucrose corn sweetener in virtually everything is a significant factor in generating more fat cells in kids who grew up in the I love digital activism from bed shirt In addition,I will do this ’80s or later. Valid point, in terms of industrial pollution, but we probably have factory farming level externalities or their ‘pollutants’ in there too. Whole bunch of things have changed in the food production processes, including genetically modifying grains, introducing new pesticides, and introducing more antibiotics to livestock. Factories are also allowed to spray crops and grains for storage in order to make them last longer. The last sixty years has seen incredible food production innovation, but not all of it is necessarily creating healthy shelf-stable food for any living being, human or lab rat.
Really, if any of those things are making their way through the I love digital activism from bed shirt In addition,I will do this food chain, which it is very reasonable to assume is happening, it goes a long way to explaining the increases in digestive disorders (irritable bowel syndrome, etc.), diabetes, and weight gain we see in society. When pregnant, my paternal grandmother’s doctor prescribed her cigarettes because she had gained too much weight over the course of 6 months. She gained less than 15 lbs. Not surprisingly, my father was born at a mere 5lbs and a few ounces when born at full term. I don’t know if you want to use this as evidence or not but I’m verifiably heavier today than I was in the 70s and 80s. I’ve seen enough of those clips from the fat people reality shows to know that they are the least trustworthy when it comes to self-reporting caloric intake.
There was a comment I read one time of someone that said their SIL would be like “I only eat one meal a day. I don’t know why I’m fat.” She never counted snacks or drinks. She said that by the I love digital activism from bed shirt In addition,I will do this time lunch hit, she was like a 1000+ calories down just on Starbucks and her fun size chocolate bars, alone. Trained nutritionists aren’t good at self-reporting their calories. They’re more accurate than the average person, but still off by hundreds. It’s a hard thing to estimate. “Our study results suggest that if you are 40 years old now, you’d have to eat even less and exercise more than if you were a 40 year old in 1971, to prevent gaining weight,” says Professor Jennifer Kuk in the School of Kinesiology and Health Science. In the 1970s, you were too busy disco dancing to the beat of the Bee Gees’ Stayin’ Alive. And John Travolta made it popular with his Saturday Night Fever.
I wonder if the I love digital activism from bed shirt In addition,I will do this fact that forty year olds in 1971 would have been growing up during the Great Depression would have an impact on these figures. Chronic childhood malnutrition can have all sorts of effects on the body. Everyone praises Audrey Hepburn’s slim figure, but it was partly due to the fact that her family was forced into malnutrition during WWII. They ate tulip bulbs to survive during a crucial growth period in her life. It definitely can have long-term consequences. I lived on oatmeal, egg omelettes, lentils, chorizo and eggs, and would run or just walk around my city out of boredom. I would just get high and go wandering around. I had to budget carefully and not overeat my groceries. Lost 25lbs that I quickly regained the next year eating out and socializing at bars nonstop. I was chubby to begin with, so my body went “see you fool! We were waiting all your life for this moment And used up my love handles.
Contemporary studies still show 1 in 5 US kids are food insecure today. I wonder what the I love digital activism from bed shirt In addition,I will do this rates were 50 years ago. Normal weight people underestimate calorie intake by about 20 percent, and overweight people underestimate by about 40 percent. Other sources say it’s more like 50 percent. I mean yes, everyone is now fat. But the main point is that if the same person ate 2000 calories and ran 3 miles per day in the 1970s they’d be skinnier than if they ate 2000 calories and ran 3 miles per day today. There’s something else messing up a lot of the human race in terms of weight today. More likely the metabolic needs of ordinary life are substantially less. Less energy to dial a phone, more mail to carry, have to go to the store for things, get up and change the channel, the act of holding a book and turning pages. The vast majority of our energy use is bound up in everyday activity.
