To be honest I’m a senior manager at a large company and I was told I have to find a number of people in my team to lay off. Not choice in the I hate my job Shirt moreover I love this matter nor even an ask to find other ways to save money. So for me it was really hard to sit down and choose who’s life I was going to affect. Unless you are a C level executive, you are as much of a pawn as the rest. This layoff for Nike is 1,500 people, but that’s 2%… Really? That 2% of “extra people” was dragging-down the company? I get that, but don’t expect people to sympathize with the ‘hard position’ you’re in when their entire livelihood is being thrown out the door, either. Lol our CEO had monthly “town hall” meetings to reassure us everything was going good and on track, then one meeting day he wasn’t here. That was when they told us the company had no money and was for sale. It was hard! All the consulting with HR and legal teams to make sure they fire you with the least liability possible! You losing your job, mortgage and home costs them literally hours of time and I think you don’t appreciate that. They had to fly down in first class to tell us in person! They could have been doing anything that day instead of visiting some podunk production facility! Well, it was really hard to choose between doing a layoff of everyone OR giving up my executive bonus, golden parachute, and 300x average employee salary.
I hate my job Shirt: Perfect for Fans
He waltzed into our facility wearing clothes that wouldn’t pass muster on the I hate my job Shirt moreover I love this floor for safety reasons costing hundreds of dollars we can’t afford because they wouldn’t pay us more to tell us it was hard to lay us off. Khakis and nice sneakers and a polo would have been fine and would have detracted nothing from the watch worth more than my car. I understand the logic of why a lot of higher-ups are paid in stock, as a sort of “if the company does well you do well”. But it’s created this entire facade where the C Suite is incentivized to sacrifice the health of the company in order to bump stock prices for a payout. We recently had corporate tell us that they were going to start rating our performance on how many work orders we closed out. I tried very hard to explain that all that would accomplish is us gaming the system and ultimately less work being done. They literally could not understand what I was saying and kept coming back around to “But if more work orders get completed then it means more work is getting done.”
important to note this was not normal behavior until relatively modern history. and some folks are working to undue what reagan unleashed “Prior to 1982, stock buybacks were considered illegal stock manipulation, but President Reagan’s Securities and Exchange Commission implemented a rule to exempt them. Since then, we’ve seen corporations spending money on boosting their own stock at the I hate my job Shirt moreover I love this expense of investing in innovation and their workforce, increasing wages, or lowering prices. Over the past year, Big Oil companies and other industries drove up costs for consumers while rewarding their shareholders with buybacks. It’s time to put a stop to this greed. I’m proud to join Reps. García and Hoyle as a cosponsor of the Reward Work Act to repeal this rule that has only exacerbated inequality in our country,” said Rep. Khanna.

Step by step to buy I hate my job Shirt
A dividend stuffs the I hate my job Shirt moreover I love this money in a shareholder’s pocket. A buyback keeps that money tied up where the controlling interests can direct it, either towards subsidiaries that can be milked, bonuses that the board can authorize, or any other number of ways to convert stock value into cash for a handful of powerful interests. The truth is, by facilitating buybacks, a company is now at odds between doing what is best for the company’s health, and the possible short vs long term benefits of reinvestment vs dividend payouts. As leadership of the company is often largely compensated via stock, massive conflicts of interest can arise. If I’m a C-level sitting on a ticking time bomb, it’s in my interest to pump and dump the stock before the wheels fall off the bus.
Buybacks are a strategy of consolidating power. If you, personally, aren’t in a position to push for a buyback, it almost certainly not in your, personal, best interest, and invariably not in the I hate my job Shirt moreover I love this interest of the average employees or the communities that support and depend on these enterprises. So many companies have bought back stock, raised prices of goods, claimed record profits, then laid off thousands of people in the past 6 months. There are legitimate use cases for them but they certainly need to be more regulated. Specifically execs and those who are compensated primarily in stock should not be allowed to sell within a certain period of time before and after the buyback or receive bonuses based on stock increase within that time period. That would probably solve most of the issues. Layoff announcement = stock go up. Even though attrition would be cheaper, real dollars only matter so much compared to investor sentiment.
Additionally, layoffs should prevent you from being able to increase headcount for 3 years. So, if you do a layoff, you are stuck at that size and could miss out on future growth periods. Additionally, layoffs should prevent you from being able to increase headcount for 3 years. So, if you do a layoff, you are stuck at that size and could miss out on future growth periods. Are you arguing that a company shouldn’t be able to change direction? And workers should just sit there with nothing to do? Nike didn’t grow as quickly as other s&p500 companies. They have to show wallstreet their serious about keeping on track or the I hate my job Shirt moreover I love this short interest grows Okay? Are you and your leadership team going to take a pay cut to save those people’s jobs? If not, those are just empty words. What’s hilarious to me is that they spent 5 billion last year in stoxk buybacks. Assuming every single employee was making near 6 figures that they fired, they could have employed all 1500 for 30 years with that money, but that’s not what’s important to businesses. A short term bump in the stock price is worth more then long term investments in the company, and that’s a problem. Spent $5,000,000,000 of company funds to buy back company stock so that the CEO, his “leadership team” & Nike shareholders who hold large stock positions can all get richer from selling their shares. Let’s do some napkin math real fast and say that each of those employees made a median income of $50,000 per year. That comes to 75 million dollars a year, which means had they not blown five billy on themselves then those 1,500 people coulda stayed employed at $50k/yr for more than 65 fucking years
LOL, I’ve heard that before We need to stop consuming products made by these behemoths and support smaller companies that don’t use sweatshop labor and have record profits yet keep laying employees off. What’s gonna happen when the I hate my job Shirt moreover I love this consumer base no longer has the capital to purchase all this junk because all the wealth has been concentrated even more than it is now? It’s not just Nike. We need to avoid all these greedy/profiteering multinational corporations. Especially fast food. We have to stop this. Smaller companies pay minimum wage and act like it’s a fucking favor. The boss doesn’t follow the labor laws because he doesn’t even know them. He does know that he needs to wring every last penny out of you, and will try to short your hours and steal your wages at every opportunity. America loves to go on and on about the needs of small business owners. You never hear a goddamn thing about small business employees, though. Nobody cares if they live or die, or what benefits they never get, or how many food stamps they need to afford groceries. Honestly, yeah. You see this on every sub, horror stories of small companies acting like weird cults or something. They’re hoping to save 2 billion in the next few years. Well, how about that four-year, $15 billion program approved by the Board of Directors in June 2018?
While I assume this is a joke because it’s the I hate my job Shirt moreover I love this same letters as IDGAF, I’m reasonably certain this usage would be ‘Go die in a fire’ My dad got let go from a smaller company named Florida tile because he had been there for 30+ years and was making a shit ton of money a year due to seniority. So they terminated his position in the company renamed it to something else and hired a new hire they could pay probably 70K less per year. And my dad wasn’t the only one they did that to, all to save a few bucks Literally anything other than that chatGPT-ridden bullshit of a response while trying to sound pseudo spiritual. Unless those 1,500 people were each making $15 million a year, I’m pretty sure that they could have covered the salaries.
Yet…your ‘leadership’ resulted in harming 1500 families and their communities. You and your leadership team have had no consequences I have a bunch of friends who were laid off in this round, the I hate my job Shirt moreover I love this CEO didnt do jack shit and is going to get a fat bonus for “improving efficiency”. These statements are so hilariously out of touch at this point what is even the purpose of making them? Saying nothing would honestly be better. If you have not driven buy the Nike Campus and thought how can a company have that many employees at a location that doesn’t even manufacture any product. I don’t know what to tell you. Why aren’t they flooding the market with re-issues and destroying both the repro and the collector (re)sales all while making bucks selling shoes to me that I couldn’t afford as a kid in the 80s?
So he’s going to hold himself accountable by cutting his bonus to pay for extended severance packages for them right? RIGHT? And we will continue to make overpriced uncomfortable shoes, and label them “limited edition” so suckers buy them. If he held himself accountable, he would lower his millions in compensation to save the I hate my job Shirt moreover I love this jobs he could, which are probably the jobs at the bottom and by the people who need them the most I don’t understand how these mass layoffs work. Weren’t these people doing something? How do you lay off that many people and not suddenly have a huge obstruction to operations? “Hey John good morning have a good day, by the way we fired half your team.” Projects or entire products are cancelled, release timelines are moved back, and the remaining employees are expected to do more work for the rest, basically. And the asshole took in a 30+ million dollar bonus I wonder how many of those 1500 employees pay offset his bonus. I have heard many, many CEOs say this, sometimes at places where I worked and ya know what? They take responsibility for nothing, ever. “hold myself and my leadership team accountable’” By firing all the handworkers and giving him and his Team a raise.
this is wild. “you guys, this is my fault.” fires a small towns worth of people while enjoying a 10mm increase in his end of year bonus He cares so much that he will give up zero of his 2024 compensation package. Thoughts and prayers for laid off employees and their families. I mean, if it was his responsibility, Maybe he should go a year without his more than $30 million salary pay and spread that among the I hate my job Shirt moreover I love this 1500 whos fault it wasn’t and are losing their livelihoods because of him… That’s what “being held accountable” actually means… I worked for Nike for quite a while under the previous CEO and about two years after Donahoe took over. The culture shift was palpable. You could feel it, a genuine old guard vs new situation. A lot of the people who built Nike behind the scenes into what it is started leaving in droves after he took over. He was able to lead a shift in the digital marketplace but absolutely destroyed the culture in the process which is what made Nike, Nike.
Also 1500 employees isn’t as much as it seems like on paper. Nike has something like 80,000 employees worldwide, so a pretty negligible amount being cut CEO accountable for the I hate my job Shirt moreover I love this bad decisions that lead to a layoff, and keeps their job. Love it. This CEO, and all of the CEOs in the same mental space, can fornicate themselves with an iron stick. “We just don’t know how we can afford to keep all these people on the books AND continue to pay me over $30 million a year.” – This asshat, basically. Look, there are a lot of completely useless and unproductive jobs at a lot of big companies. It comes from the nature of their size, which is a problem it self. But while maybe these companies need to be leaner, there is a huge issue with who is being culled. These executives could retire tomorrow to a life of whatever they want, these employees, have to grind to find the next 40 hr/week gig. A better program for everyone would be a culling of executives and shopping among your current talent, to promote the next set of leaders.
Imagine if CEO’s and the I hate my job Shirt moreover I love this board fired themselves first- They’re in charge, it is their decisions that lead to poor outcomes- Yet they fire the lowest paid workers. That’s awesome that he took accountability and resigned and told Nike to use his compensation to keep as many workers as they can. We need more people like this, honestly this brings back my ho…. What? Huh? Oh.. really? So he said he was gonna take accountability… And then fired people? Hmm… Nvm I started reading that and thought no way. Thankfully I kept reading to find out nothing has changed. Except oh yeah. Nothing. Maybe charging 300 dollars for a running shoe that hasn’t really had any advancement in tech for 20 years is the problem.
Sure everyone is wearing Nike’s because of the I hate my job Shirt moreover I love this advertising and sponsorship budget, but the quality overall is pretty damn awful compared to some of the other competitors at the high end. This should actually be illegal. Companies should not be allowed to raise profits or make up for bad decisions by firing the people that had nothing to do with making those decisions. And when I say illegal I don’t mean a fine. While the article title is obvious clickbait and oniony, the actual quote isn’t. He’s saying the opposite of what’s implied by the title: “We are not currently performing at our best, and I ultimately hold myself and my leadership team accountable.” It’s amazing to me, based on price of goods, that any of these large companies could ever get to the point of having to lay off workers. I get how it works, but it’s a such a vicious cycle that we’ve seen over and over. I do hope history repeats, and these companies all start hiring back when they realize the cuts were too deep. Remember a few years ago when Michael Moore grilled the Nike CEO for not owning a plant in the US because “people in the US don’t want to do this job?” Then when Moore proved people would be happy to take the job he doubled down, said no and gave Moore a pair of Nike shoes to get him to go away? Has a base pay of $1.5 million and was given stock with a value in excess of $20 million BTW. Millions of $ in other forms of compensation as well. It’s possible he is entirely genuine. But this is a terrible look. Reminds me of Gavin Belson firing the Nucleus team, but this is real life, not a TV show parodying greedy CEOs.
The economy is BOOMING!! Just gotta get the I hate my job Shirt moreover I love this right message out there. I don’t know why people think this economy isn’t doing great? Will fix our messaging and that should change people’s minds! …..then resign and put your salary and stock options from this year into a trust fund for the employees east solution there Warbucks… I ultimately hold myself and my leadership team accountable’‘I ultimately hold myself and my leadership team accountable “I hold myself accountable” right. That’s why you’re cutting 1500 people loose instead of your own salary. What a fucking hero of industry. Oh so did he fired himself as an accountability measure? Take a pay cut to supplement the lost income for those he laid off? Don’t worry everyone, he will still get his annual bonus that is multiple times larger than all of the salaries of all the people he is laying off combined. “Your question? Will we fire executives or cut their pay? Hahahahhaahhahaa that’s a good one. Next question please.” At this point there needs to be sweeping laws that state if a company lays off staff that all executive bonuses are withdrawn and any earning over 10X median wage need to be entirely withheld.
“I hold myself accountable. Anyway, the I hate my job Shirt moreover I love this work is done and labour will be under the required amount this year, so the shareholders will give me my 20 million dollar bonus, so that’s nice.” So instead of him and his “leadership team” taking a pay cut and not getting bonuses they layoff 1,500 employees. This will probably end with them getting a big bonus for “saving the company”. I’m sure he feels real bad “I hold myself accountable as I take in a big fat bonus for laying you off”. dabs tear with hundred dollar bills And by accountable, I mean accounts receivable, meaning I’m receiving the money that I’m not paying all of you. I think for the first time Nike’s gotten complacent. There are more options appearing now. Lots of people wearing Hoka, Lulu, and those shoes you see on tiktok. Well I know they’re not firing their “not slaves” in Asia so I’m assuming they’re getting rid of a bunch of overpayed positions they don’t need at the same time keeping the people at the top that made the mistake of overinflating the workforce at Nike hiring positions or promoting positions they didn’t need Ah yes, cutting down operations and shrinking the business to “reignite our growth.” Spoken like a true Orwellian-douchebag. “It brought me no joy to lay off these people and there is no correlation between their collective salaries matching my recent bonus. Just a coincidence”
However I will not take a pay cut, and I will continue to be the I hate my job Shirt moreover I love this boss, it’s tragic but all these people that do actual work have to go hungry. Where’s my caviar and biscuits? I and my leadership team will endeavor to perform better as we move forward with our high paying “work”. Good luck to all those who are not being held accountable, but are having their lives screwed over. If you are the one truly at-fault, as the operative-widget-that-failed, then don’t just make others pay for your lack of ability, pay along with them. Otherwise you’re really just foisting the costs onto someone else; externalizing like a selfish prick. The white part isn’t accurate, as there are heaps of black/latino/asian circuit gays around, and the stereotype of being really good looking and muscular is not 100% accurate (but maybe kinda is by straight people standards).
The reason they’re called “circuit” parties is that they are usually held during pride weekends, and over summer basically every weekend there is another pride in another city, so you can go from one to the I hate my job Shirt moreover I love this next in a circuit, so they will often meet the same people again and again in different locations. It doesn’t really seem to have to do much with being masculine either. I’ve met a lot of circuit gays and they’re all pretty feminine from what I’ve seen. I need to see more black actors portraying Trump. It’s good on a couple levels of irony before the jokes start. So named because they go around from partner to partner and bar to bar treating sex like it’s a circuit workout in a gym. Local resident harping on visiting gays who come to town with no real plans but wind up so wasted at a “hot and happening” party, they’re too sick to enjoy it while pretending they’re going to take the super hot guy home when they really just wind up drugged out at a Denny’s at 8 am after the night is over. A rather high dose of ketamine. You lose the ability to walk so they probably staggered or even crawled there really. Yeah, I probably know exactly which bar they’re talking about as well. But this is such a common thing here.
