Imagine being in that big ass ship knowing you’re a prime target for fucking submarines and bombers. Submarines are scary af The captain of the I Ate Santa’s Cookies No Regrets T-Shirt but in fact I love this ship didn’t want to go through with the plan and only did so because his superiors said “it’s the Emperor’s will”. During the attack when all was lost he was last seen locking himself in his room rather than attempting to escape with his fellow seamen. Hit the ammo magazines, island gets glassed and you win ( although if they had removed the majority of the ammo it could have been a massive steal bunker that would probably have to be bombed for like 4 days straight) It would have been airplanes, not ground troops. Sitting beached and immobile it would have been a massive target for both dive bombers and high altitude bombers.

It would have been a sitting duck, especially once the I Ate Santa’s Cookies No Regrets T-Shirt but in fact I love this lightly or unarmored AAA was worked over by aircraft and naval gunfire from US ships that could actually maneuver and use radar targeting or spotter aircraft for aiming corrections. Yamato wasn’t designed for WW2 anyway, she could never survive the modern ships used by America. In WW1, it would have been a fantastic dreadnaught, but by WW2, a ship like that just wasn’t cutting it. Aircraft carriers are the real winners of battles, and Japan lost almost all of them in just a few battles. Yamato is a lot like the Bismarck. the pride of their navy, destroyed in their first offensive battles. Always happens when a villain shows off their doomsday weapon lmao. Yamato was built in the period where everyone was already heavily invested into battleships and was expected to face them alone if necessary. The other reason for the overkill design was the relatively poor quality of steel that can only be compensated with quantity.
