I went to Yellowstone and saw a grizzly within the Horse do you know why birds sing in the morning-Shirt Furthermore, I will do this first hour. Some people aren’t lucky enough to see any. I got lucky. Last summer I spent a week travelling around the Canadian Rockies in Alberta, the whole trip I had my eyes peeled for wildlife but we only saw a couple regular deer and some wild horses for the first 5 days. Our last 2 days were spent driving the Icefields Parkway to Jasper, and the first evening we had there we went on a horseback trail ride which was fantastic, but saw no wildlife. As we drove away literally 30 seconds down the driveway we encountered a female Grizzly with 2 young cubs, walking right along the side of the road! We were able to pull over and she walked right past our car with her babies. I felt so incredibly lucky in that moment and it was more amazing than I had even hoped for. The high I felt after that encounter was one of the best feelings I have ever felt! Even better, over the next 24 hours in Jasper we saw 6 more bears! Total 6 grizzlies and 3 black bears. Absolutely made the entire trip for me as a wildlife artist with a lifelong love/obsession with animals.

I was in San Gemini, Italy in 2012 for a solo vacation while in college. It’s kind of a sleepy town without a lot of tourists in March. I wandered into a pub during a slow weeknight looking for a pint and a meal. I was the only person in there besides the owner and a regular local. A quick meal alone while they socialized turned into being invited to pull up a chair and staying a while. I was studying Italian, so I had a chance to practice which added to the good time. In Chiang Mai for Loy Krathong, lots of people visiting the major temples and wandering around the city. While I was walking around, I stumbled across a small temple tucked down a little alleyway. There was nobody else around, apart from a monk and the resident cat. It was so wonderful to enjoy this little peaceful area in the middle of the city.
First visit to Paris. They invited us to dinner, and just said to meet at the base of the Eiffel Tower; they took us to dinner at the Jules Verne restaurant on the second level and paid the bill; we would not have been able to afford otherwise. After, we went to a piano bar filled with prostitutes (didn’t stay long!), gay techno bar (on accident, but still fun), and then a cigar/jazz place where we stayed until 3am (Mojito Havana by Arc de Triomphe). I arrived in Abu Dhabi at about 5am after a long flight and was tired and very hungry. After immigration I met some wonderful girls at the taxi stand also waiting for a drive. They didn’t have a clue where to go and since I was on my own, we decided to go to the mosque together. After arriving at about 6am at the mosque, it was clearly closed but the taxi driver had already left. We were just standing around discussing what to do when a guy came up to us, asking what we were doing. Turns out he was the architect/supervisor of the renovations that were currently done at the mosque, so he invited us into his office to have some breakfast. Since he already arrived at his workplace and didn’t have any appointments that day, he offered us his chauffeur for the day, which took us to all relevant sites in Abu Dhabi and made our day very special.
Travelled to Seattle for 2-3 days couple of times and it didn’t rain the Horse do you know why birds sing in the morning-Shirt Furthermore, I will do this entire time we were there. Same with London, the weather was nice every time we have been there. Visited Machu Picchu with a college group back in the day. the actual lucky part was that I was the very last name on the list to make the cut to climb up to Huayna Picchu (the tall peak in the background of photos), where at the time they only let a certain amount up that day. the climb was brutal with the altitude and how steep it was but the views and ruins up there were staggering. one of my favorite travel moments. Hitchhiked in a town called Douz in Tunisia and found a friendly person who invited me drinking their homemade traditional alcohol in the Sahara desert with their friend, while we were mostly successful in communicating with my very broken Arabic I was drugged in Thailand, and I was lucky enough to get away. Probably without losing an organ or getting killed or something.

The museum tour was a gift and was one of those early admissions tickets where we got in well before general admissions. I went, got a voucher for a night at the Hilton, rebooked my flight for the next morning, turned around and the line turned to Disneyland. My husband and I traveled to Rome right as the Covid restricttions were easing up. It was amazing, the Vatican was empty, we had rooms to ourselves the whole time. Same trip, Italy’s men’s soccer team was in the Euro finals against England, there were watching parties at every plaza. We got to see Italy win in penalties and the crowd go crazy and party all night! It was the best trip ever and I honestly dont know how anything can top that.
Last year Tenerife, i felt quite fortunated by the Horse do you know why birds sing in the morning-Shirt Furthermore, I will do this whole experience. First time renting something on my own and im only there alone. I loved it so much that i prefer to travel alone now. Though there have been scary situations withe the wildfires last year. On my last day a helicopter trying to extinguish the fire woke me up and i was just driving away while the people got evacuated there I got my first random chance to sit in First Class upgrade for free (short flight, 2.5 hours). They paged me overhead and my partner and I walked up. The attendant explained they have one upgrade available if we’d like it. My partner immediately said I should take it, they fly for work occasionally and have had the opportunity before. I politely thanked them and said no. I’d rather sit with my partner and I honestly think I’m pretty lucky to just be married to them.
My father and I were flying together but on separate reservations. Was only there for 2 nights and was completely unplanned
My fannypack,with me and my friends cash and passports, fell out of my bag while riding a motorcycle in Southeast Asia. The vibration/wind opened a zipper. My friend was 10 minutes behind me. He picked it up. If he didn’t, that trip would’ve been so ass. We would’ve lost like 5-8k cash and our passports. When I visited Notre Dame, we had to wait outside along the Horse do you know why birds sing in the morning-Shirt Furthermore, I will do this side of the cathedral because that was the line to wait to get to the top. It started to rain so the water was dumping all over the side of the cathedral and onto us, but it was cool because the water flows out of the gargoyles mouths. When we got to the airport in Detroit for our flight to Amsterdam we mentioned it to the gate agent, not really expecting much. She said she didn’t know anything about it, but she told us to hold on. I went to Athens during covid and the acropolis was empty. I was able to buy my tickets without queueing and we were maybe 30 inside the gates. All my pics are without people in them.

Except I didn’t really know that some parks were planning on opening again anytime soon. We were cooped up in the house for months and I had never been to Yosemite before, despite it being within a days drive away. On the third day, with no particular plan in place and nothing booked, but feeling a little better, I took all my stuff and got on a shared truck heading to Jambiyana, a beach area on the other side of the island.

They took me under their wing, gave me a room in the amazing beach front villa they had rented, and treated me until I was 100% better. I will never forget that kindness. I ended up having a wonderful time on Zanzibar and even got to stay in the villa on my own for a night after the group departed. We went on a privately guided birding tour to NE Argentina in late 2022. The trip included 2 days at Iguazu Falls NP. It turns out that the guide who set up our trip was personal friends with the head biologist as Iguazu Falls and it also turned out that the head biologist was currently on vacation and one of the two days we were to visit the Falls was Christmas day. Unfortunately/fortunately, Iguazu closed early on Christmas Day. However … and here is where we got our lucky break … our guide got his friend the head biologist to give my husband and I a private tour of Iguazu Falls … when the park was officially closed. So, it was just the biologist, my husband and myself there for hours in the afternoon, soaking in all the beauty of the immense series of falls, the shifting rainbows in the mist, the exotic birds, the orchids, everything without a single other tourist there.
I thought that our guide frequently arranged such special outings at Iguazu, but he told us he had never done it before and we had just gotten lucky that day …. In Portugal, we booked a tour of Peneda-Gerês National Park. It was a fantastic day, despite pouring rain for most of the day. As it was just the two of us, we got to see pretty much anything we wanted. Went on several pretty soggy hikes. March 2020, flew 20h to New York city for a wedding only to have everything close due to the pandemic. I have a picture on the Brooklyn Bridge with not another soul on it. Scrambled to get on flights back early, and made friends with someone that was mildly famous from my country as we experienced a flight cancellation due to engine trouble.
I got a hot air balloon ride for free in Chiang Mai, Thailand. At that time, there was some kind of exhibitions and through my friend, I got a pass as a photographer (media). I was ready to jump out the boat but too bad at that time, my boss also on that boat so she won’t allow me. Also, in Raja Ampat I did many dives and saw a rare pregnant bargibanti seahorse. It was so tiny and fragile. One of the most amazing scuba experience. Just yesterday, I was in line for security screening TSA and was told to either dump my pesto sauce/truffle oil/etc, or do the check-in luggage. I left the line and unpack my luggage, dump my sauce into a ziploc bag and was trying my luck until I got fed up and realized to walk to the airlines counter and asked how much they charge for check-in luggage. It turned out to be FREE yay, even though I didn’t purchase it. So lucky me!

I got to watch a full solar eclipse through my plane window on a flight out of Zurich. That was pretty amazing. On a flight to Fairbanks, there was also a lot of electromagnetic activity going on. We were alerted and I looked out the window. It literally looked like we were flying through the aurora. So cool! I learned Portuguese and then took part in an ayahuasca ceremony at a temple in the forest in Brazil that was 100% in Portuguese. It was amazing and so far outside the norm of my daily life. Without even trying to be there early, my wife my son and I were the very first people allowed into the Gallery of Maps during our tour of the Vatican. I have pictures of the hallway completely empty of people and also a picture of my son standing just inside the entrance to the hall with absolutely nobody behind him. I had no idea at the time just how rare that type of experience is, because less than 5 minutes later we were surrounded by people. i accidentally showed up in Porto on the day of the festival of st. john. what a raucous evening that i fell into A bit dark, but – airport security was really enforcing the “liquids in a bag” rule, and I could fit 4 out of 5 things no matter how i configured it. So I left behind the toothpaste (cheapest) and the next day, went to a drugstore to replace it. This was downtown in a major city, so easy enough to do. 30 minutes after my unneeded shopping trip, a woman entered that drugstore and randomly stabbed someone, killing them. If I’d waited for one more client meeting to finish, I could have been there.
