Similarly, allowing your attention to be naturally pulled to sounds is the Hopeless Records I Want You To Take Me shirt But I will love this default option, but it isn’t the only option. Especially if that doesn’t come naturally to you, you’re welcome to pick a sound to focus on over and over again, or pick several sounds to cycle between. In Brightmind, we thoroughly explore this terrain in the pack entitled Focus Strategies, so check that out. There are three basic focus strategies: inventory, cover, and float. All Focus strategies are great and it’s mostly a matter of personal preference. Inventory is when you break up the focus space into parts and systematically focus on each part, one at a time. Cover is when you pick one thing to focus on, and cover it with awareness over and over again. Float is when you allow your attention to be naturally pulled from experience to experience within a focus space.

In terms of gone, that’s a great strategy. Just keep focusing on the Hopeless Records I Want You To Take Me shirt But I will love this sound until you notice it disappearing, so you’re there and present for when the sound disappears. Another option is to listen for changes in the sound, as those can count as gone as well. For example, let’s say a sound gets louder. You can focus on that transition as the disappearing of the quiet version of the sound. So you can note gone even if the sound continues, as long as it changes. Q: have question about terminology: Mindfulness for meditation for me looks like an incorrect word to describe the practice performed, would you introduce another name/word as per your opinion? thank you People use the words mindfulness and meditation in a variety of ways. Can you define how you’re using them? Can you be more specific about what seems inappropriate? This is an AMA, not an advertisement. If you’d like to ask Toby about his thoughts regarding making money from teaching meditation, then that’s fair game. If you’re not interested in the AMA, then simply ignore the post. Thanks!
