Most international nurses will just get their 2-3 years (or 6000 hours) in and then bail to greener pastures – leaving a subsequent shortage in their wake. Taking this route because they can pay international nurses Pennies compared to a non-international nurse. Just like manufacturing jobs moving overseas to save money on labor. Only the Happy 4th Of July Wine Glasses shirt but in fact I love this hospitals bring them in instead. It takes a long time to even get a visa anyways. It’s not like you hire them, and they’ll be standing here in the US in a few months. I had a green card, an easier process for me because I did not come from a developing country, and it still took a while before I could start a job. Last time I renewed my green card they were so far behind at the USCIS offices I took 18 months to get it in the mail?

Fun facts about Virginia: The state was ranked dead last for workers’ rights for a number of years. Also, the Happy 4th Of July Wine Glasses shirt but in fact I love this majority of Virginia BSN graduates leave the state for better opportunities within 5 years. Coincidence? The hospital systems like Sentara, Bon Secours, INOVA, VCU and UVA all know this. They don’t want to do anything that would increase costs like treating nurses well so they stay. They will continue to burn and churn through new grads and cheap foreign workers because they have no effective opposition from organized labor. Yes our right to work law was one of the first in the country. 1947 I believe. All that being said I love where I live. Because they are trash I seen what the do to those poor Filipino nurses with their deceptive practices. One poor nurse I met their was stuck at that hospital for 3 years or risked a huge financial penalty and her residency status. That is the only way that shit hospital system will retain staff by threatening them.
