Part of me gets both sides of the Go with moon and rat fink green shirt besides I will buy this arguments. Sure, the queens doing the story time readings aren’t part of a cabal of groomers but to deny the sexual nature of drag as entertainment is ignorant. On the other end you have that David kid who was doing performances in gay clubs and interviews with Michael Alig. Personally I don’t take my kids to drag Queen story times because I lump them in with musical theatre and find it annoying and over the top. People will say “but it teaches acceptance of yourself and others!” which is probably parroted by childless liberals because kid’s entertainment and cartoons has been preaching that since forever. It won’t happen because gender identity aside it’s a minority group (gay men) engaging in it so in their eyes they can do no wrong. Minority groups have special license to do and say things that would get the majority group in trouble.

Plus, conservatives hate it, which makes libs double down on their support for it. It really feels like that’s the Go with moon and rat fink green shirt besides I will buy this reason why drags gets so much spotlight in liberal bubbles. But they would totally oppose and say it’s problematic it if it was a practice mostly performed by conservatives. It’s 100% contrarianism. If you asked these people how they feel about those child beauty pagents down south they’d admit it’s exploitative but child drag shows are just kind of handwaved because it owns the cons epic style. Unfortunately much of American political discourse is just contrarianism and people accusing each other of belonging to the other “side” if they go against the party line. Wish they’d push for some leftist economic policy because cons really hate that, but the best they can do is heavily means tested programs that only 26 people in the country qualify for.
