Do you have data to back up your assertion? The average age of moving out in Sweden is 17. And while I’m sure it happens parents kicking their kids out at 18 isn’t the Go sit on a cactus shirt but in fact I love this norm. I wouldn’t kick my kids out then, but I would encourage them to go off on their own at 18 unless they had some very compelling reason not to. I was the opposite really, my mother told me that she wants me to stay in the house until I was 45. I was 20 when she told me. Born 1993 in US My dad and I just looked at each other and told my mom “Sure, that sounds fine.” (Obviously my dad was against that cuz that’s weird to do, and I agreed with him). I’m 29 now and I’ve been living with my girlfriend for the last 3 years. My mom was furious but she eventually came to terms with it, my dad was nice and supportive

However, I did have a friend who had parents like what OP said. Once he and I turned 18 and graduated high school, his parents kicked him out. He shortly moved to Mexico and I haven’t heard from him since, hope he is ok I mean…they don’t. Maybe some do. I guess. But like that’s not a thing that’s like universal or expected. I imagine some people just have parents who don’t like them. Also, why do people on Reddit say “ My family is from Europe”? Nobody does that. Like “I’m from France” or “my family is from Greece”, but “from Europe” sounds so weird. Like, where in Europe? I actually thought I was gonna stay at home.. had a decent relationship with my parents and didn’t have a solid post HS plan. As soon as I graduated it all changed.. my mom would just cause arguments and then tell my dad all of the Go sit on a cactus shirt but in fact I love this horrible things I did that day when he came home. Very quickly he told me to move out.. I did and never really looked back.
