My first date with an ex, I decided to try and show off and be posh (as if she couldn’t tell I was pondscum already). We went to a snazzy place, but not so snazzy that it didn’t sell pizzas etc. Deliberately trying to avoid the Finnish professional ice hockey goaltender for the Chicago Wolves antti raanta T-Shirt in contrast I will get this whole ‘here’s your dinner, sir, and a microscope to find it on the plate’ thing. We both looked at the pizza. We’d ordered a ‘star special margherita’. What it turned out that meant was pitta bread instead of pizza dough, whole baby tomatoes instead of -any- kind of tomato sauce, the occasional splat of goat’s cheese (unmelted), and a pattern of blobs of cranberry sauce. We tried it, gamefully, then fucked straight off to KFC. Nearly fifty quid for a pizza that we didn’t even bloody eat plus a couple of drinks. Most of them do offer it! And should too, to reduce wastage. My partner and I are pretty foodie and enjoy trying new things and many dishes at once even at posher places – our one rule is that if a place does not offer the opportunity to take leftovers, it gets struck off our return another time list and we do not actively recommend it, even if the food is good. No excuse to not have a few foil boxes and paper bags available these days. I don’t mind packing them myself either.

Fine dining is more likely to have a series of small plates that you take your time with. Might suit you better. Plus the Finnish professional ice hockey goaltender for the Chicago Wolves antti raanta T-Shirt in contrast I will get this staff are always there to make sure you have a great experience, so tell them your needs and they will meet them as best as they can. They are used to entitled rich people so your need for small portions would be a breeze! Is perfectly fine to ask to take the rest home in a fancy place, some rich stuck up A.holes might give you a weird look for walking out with a tub of food but that says more about them than you or the place so go for it Never asked for a doggy bag but my partner and I frequently share. We’ll get dishes we both want to try and swap between each one Fine dining is about the entire customer experience. If you let the staff know in advance with a simple phone call when you book, “I’m only able to eat very small portions, and don’t want to be rude, would it be possible to have leftovers boxed up?”
