Whenever I see posts on this subreddit, I always feel like the Drew McIntyre Scottish Psychopath Bootleg Shirt also I will do this median income of the school district should be mentioned. What we aren’t talking about is how the students who have been coached to still be able to pass every test with an A, but cant apply those same skills to a situation in real life, because they have no idea how to It’s at the community college level, too. I want back to school for my associates, and I’m pulling straight As, and doing the bare minimum. I’m an older returning student, 44, and they’ve definitely dumbed down EVERYTHING. I’ve been stressing about taking a math class, but I’m starting to think I’ll ace that too. I started teaching tech and coding to kids aged anywhere between 8 and 13 in Australia, which I imagine is a country where education is highly rated and they have a lot of resources to learn compared to pretty much anywhere else in the world (I come from Portugal btw).
Drew McIntyre Scottish Psychopath Bootleg Shirt: Show Your Love with Style
But none of that matters when the Drew McIntyre Scottish Psychopath Bootleg Shirt also I will do this bar is so low and I get side eyes if I mention that maybe we need to do something extra when the kids can’t follow basic instructions like “you press here to select, here to copy, and here to paste” even after I repeat them and show them multiple times right by their side, let alone spelling, what a browser is, what a grid is, or when should they sum or subtract to make something move on a screen (I’ve given up expecting them to be able to calculate even single digit sums without getting massively confused, I just want them to understand they go different ways on a scale). Let alone their behavioral issues. But as long as the kids don’t complain, and they get some sort of empty award at the end for the parents to see, everything is fine.
Then you have the Drew McIntyre Scottish Psychopath Bootleg Shirt also I will do this few students that actually follow up while having fun, know how to listen, and are already like 4 years ahead of their peers. I wonder all the time how different their adult lives will be. The problem is that there are no consequences in the education system for being a moron. Now if a child fails, they blame the teachers. There’s no incentive. Which state? There are a very few very specific states where the students are learning and money is being invested in education. This is where the top student sim the country are coming from. Sorry to say – but this is a politics thing. If you want to make America great again start with the schools and stop worrying about all the rich people bullshit Parents really have to do more. My son could complete a puzzle with all 50 states before kindergarten. He became a teacher. He heard 2 teachers in lunch who didn’t know Hawaii is a state.

Patents need to teach abc’s, read sight words, read every day to kids. They need to be able to count to 100. They should know complete names and addresses and phone numbers. I can’t believe kids don’t know their parents real names. Don’t they hear their parents speaking to each other? I taught 3rd grade last year and there were kids who could barely write their own name or properly hold a pencil let alone read a full sentence Same. I teach physics and many of my students math and writing skills are deplorable. The kids are taking AP, or just the Drew McIntyre Scottish Psychopath Bootleg Shirt also I will do this “smart” kids who are taking regular are fine. The general population who are taking it because they just need another science class…. They can’t find an average. They can’t solve for x. They can’t use a calculator or do order of operations correctly.
They also can’t write a conclusion to save their life. We scaffold using “claim, evidence, reasoning”. They don’t even understand what the Drew McIntyre Scottish Psychopath Bootleg Shirt also I will do this different parts are supposed to include despite using the same framework all year. We’ve gone from computers with a keyboard everywhere to digital keyboards everywhere so quickly, but I never made the association that kids are just not using physical keyboards now until they get to highschool or beyond. I’ll be honest. I thought most people knew that kids are behind and just being pushed forward due to making shitty metrics the end all be all and the no child left behind. Tranches of kids cannot sound out words because they were never taught how to. They were taught with bogus Balanced Literacy or Whole Word or Queued Reading techniques. Skills that are indicative of bad readers. That curriculum needs to be aggressively repealed (it already is in many areas) and there needs to be foundational overhauls with a return and adherence to phonics
Teaching kids to be literate is critical if we want them to learn anything else, like googling whole phrases, taking notes, understand word problems. I’m sorry it has to be this way but I’m not sure what I’m supposed to do about it besides ensure my child isn’t a complete and total dumbass. Omg. THIS. It’s almost like some students are proud of failing, not completing their assignments, etc. Today I handed out a test and it was on Chapter 6. The words “CHAPTER 6 TEST” were written boldly on top. It was open book. The kids still didn’t know what chapter we were on. I had to tell them to stop talking like a broken record and stated they needed to work independently. When I write our agenda in the Drew McIntyre Scottish Psychopath Bootleg Shirt also I will do this Promethean board, the instructions are as clear as day and they still are asking what we are doing. Their vocabulary is stunted. All they seem to be concerned about is seeking attention or playing around on their phones. Attention span? None. Interest in learning? None. We cannot do our jobs under these circumstances.
“Been teaching high school math 12 years. The top students are just as good (possibly even better) as they always were. But there is no middle ground anymore. The gap between my school’s gifted Algebra 2 and regular Algebra 2 is massive. It’s like going from 11th grade to 3rd grade. I’m not exaggerating when I say that by the Drew McIntyre Scottish Psychopath Bootleg Shirt also I will do this way. Curriculum has moved so far away from textbooks and actually PRACTICING skills, that a lot of students aren’t learning anything. They come in, “think pair share” about some random warmup question, do two or three convoluted word problem/”real-world” problems with the teacher, then have no homework. Then they move on the next day. Students are missing more and more basic, essential skills by the time they get to high school. They don’t know the times table, positive/negative arithmetic, fractions, basic distributive property, combining like terms, factoring, the list goes on.
Add on top of all of that the Drew McIntyre Scottish Psychopath Bootleg Shirt also I will do this plague of PhotoMath and similar apps, on top of the fact that no teacher could realistically check and grade every assignment for accuracy, and yeah. This headline is not surprising to me in the slightest. It’s obvious.” Here is an idea. For the most part your all union and I support that. How about the union helps step in a fix another broken ‘Merican system. How about common core out the door. How about we learn to spell our names before we sit in front of a computer. How about we learn where “merica is on the map before we talk about it’s flag. Elementary students are being blasted with information they don’t understand and are not old enough for. The acronym K.I.S.S comes to mind (Keep It Simple Stupid) and I don’t say it as a dig but because things are so complicated that students and instructors both have problems. No other industry pays their professionals so poorly. BA/BS or Masters and most have trouble making ends meet and I feel for you. Us on the outside have our hands tied. Much like Insurance/Healthcare, Education will have to make the changes from the inside. We as voters no longer have oversight at what state and local school boards do. That’s where your union could shine. Go back to a simpler way of teaching. How come I can teach my child Algebra from a 60 year old library book but I can’t even understand the book he brings home. The problem didn’t change, just the book and the way it’s being presented.
This is what right wingers have been investing the Drew McIntyre Scottish Psychopath Bootleg Shirt also I will do this time and effort into for decades now. An educated population is an inconvenience to them. It’s not a coincidence that higher IQs tend to vote more liberal and lower IQs tend to vote more conservative. That’s why I took my son out and started homeschooling. Now he is earning early college credits at 11. Real talk though, You gotta wade through a literal mountain of religious bullshit to find good materials. It’s interesting to see how widely ChatGPT is being embraced by our company. However, one major challenge that many adults face is effectively communicating specific instructions to the AI. Prompting. If even teenagers, aged 15-18, struggle with conducting proper research on Google, it raises concerns about our future. Fortunately, having grown up with technology, I find myself quite adept at navigating GPT and other similar tools. But the looming skills gap is something that concerns me deeply as we look ahead…
I teach at a university and unfortunately, these issues follow them to university academics. I’m aghast and dumbfounded more often than I think I should be. Dare I say it? We need to start holding kids back. The social pressure to appear normal needs to take a back seat to entire grades of students failing to know the Drew McIntyre Scottish Psychopath Bootleg Shirt also I will do this material. We are now seeing it in college. I teach university courses and 90% of my students are horrific writers. Some of them are probably at roughly a 4th to 6th grade level. I can only assume they even got into college because they were given passing grades as a courtesy or virtually all of them are so behind that a 6th grade writing level is a bell-curve average. This was not the case when I taught pre-pandemic. It is all so bleak. maybe the government will step in to raise wages and allow people to take time off while reducing the cost of living so parents can actually BE there to teach kids anything. plus 30k a year just for childcare while at work for some people, it’s insanity
US education system is a wreck. I came from Korea when I was 10, I was just a student. Past the Drew McIntyre Scottish Psychopath Bootleg Shirt also I will do this language issue in first few years, I started getting grades far better than average students. I never once studies until I graduated HS and made it to Honor Society. But I lacked passion and motivation to do more. My sweet 10 yr old granddaughter has just caught up to grade level. Most of her falling behind is on her school failing to bring up that she needed help/services which my angel DIL fought for 2 yrs to get her tested and services provided. This is in California. It depends on your district. I’ve met 12yos who couldn’t write “I am a boy.” and 11yos with better geography than me. Different schools with different clientele. Highly educated parents who make a lot of money are able to give their kids the foundations and structures needed. Folks who dropped out of HS and work 70h/week to stay two bucks above the poverty line don’t have that luxury Curious: what is socioeconomic demo? Poor across the board? Parents? % Divorce and unwed? Rural or urban? School funding per pupil? Also, rules re: phones in school?
I teach primary and my peers and I are very concerned. Yes, there are many sweet, bright kids with involved adults. However, the Drew McIntyre Scottish Psychopath Bootleg Shirt also I will do this percentage of students being raised on electronics and who are essentially not parented is growing at an alarming rate. These students are coming in with significantly lower skills. They don’t have problem solving skills (and I’m talking about what to do if they don’t have a sharpened pencil, not math), their vocabularies are limited, they have poor self regulation skills, no stamina for productive struggle, and take little to no pride in their work. We have students arriving for kindergarten who are not potty trained, have never held a pencil or crayon, and can’t identify colors. These are not students with special needs. We’re doing the best we can in the lower grades, but when there’s little to no support at home and the kids with significant behavior problems are allowed to continually disrupt learning, it’s a strenuous uphill battle.
You are correct, they are significantly behind. If we don’t start retaining students who don’t master the Drew McIntyre Scottish Psychopath Bootleg Shirt also I will do this skills, our society will be full of unprepared young adults incapable of taking care of themselves or anyone else. Kindergarten teacher here. It’s bad. Kids come to kindergarten with no skills. These kids don’t even know the letters of the alphabet when we get them, let alone the sounds they make or how to form letters. So we are teaching them 26 upper case, 26 lower case, and something like 35 letter sounds. And somehow by the end of the year they are supposed to have mastered that and be able to blend, segment, and write cvc words and words with digraphs. They cant even hold scissors. Our day is blocked into 15 minute increments and there is no time to teach fine motor skills, do arts and crafts, or do anything fun, really. And the gaps between what they need to know by the end of Kindergarten and first few months of first are laughable. For example, K learns to write letters 0-20 by May (end of school). In August (the month school starts), 1st is given a blank 100s chart to write all their numbers. In K, we aren’t supposed to use the words add or subtract or the symbols for them. It has to be combine or take away and part-part-whole and some such nonsense. In 1st, they start adding multi digit numbers and writing their own number sentences and writing their own word problems. We cover word problems (supposed to be without add, subtract or the corresponding symbols) for 5 days in K. They end of being Jacks of All Trades, Masters of None. But are expected to have mastered these skills and master a whole ‘nother set in 1st. There is no foundation for these kids. And as you can see, the nonsense they put kids and teachers through in lower elementary is reflected all the way up to high school. It’s terrible.
The result of decades of attempts by conservatives to destroy public education. They have to keep pumping out dummies in order to have anyone vote for them. People think more is better, but here’s my take with 15 years of elementary teaching in various grades under my belt… when we decided to align the Drew McIntyre Scottish Psychopath Bootleg Shirt also I will do this standards to the ACT/SAT and reverse engineered from there, we abandoned the child development end of things. We expect kindergartners to read because working backwards from the standardized test – that fit the timeline. The reality is, we’re teaching concepts that only maybe 30% of the room are developmentally capable of truly understanding. Teaching things earlier doesn’t mean they’ll be understood earlier. Everything we jammed two years earlier displaced many of the skills upper grade teachers are saying are lacking here. I can expect second graders to understand nuclear fusion at a granular level, but expecting it does not make it so. Years that used to be focused on emotional regulation and cooperation and the basics (calendars, days of week, colors, etc.) are now reading and math centric with lots of standards to get in before the end of year state test (which is in April instead of May – when school actually ends?!)
I know, for example, that we now expect fact fluency in multiplication and division by end of 3rd grade. When I was in school that expectation was end of 5th. Guess how many multiplication fluent students walked into my 4th or 5th grade classes? Maybe 30%. So then I taught 3rd. The third grade teachers were basically standing on their heads doing everything they could to get kids fluent by the Drew McIntyre Scottish Psychopath Bootleg Shirt also I will do this end of the year. It wasn’t a lack of effort or know how – it was simply not a developmentally appropriate expectation. So now kids walk into 4th and 5th with curriculum based on fact fluency they don’t have. So guess what they can’t access? The expected standards – that are also written at the bleeding edge of appropriate expectations. Then off they go to middle school where those teachers spend the next 3 years trying to makeup for the standards the students weren’t developmentally prepared to fully grasp, at the expense of the standards they’re expected to be teaching – and here we are.
TLDR: We jam developmentally inappropriate standards down the Drew McIntyre Scottish Psychopath Bootleg Shirt also I will do this pipe. We displace the basic developmentally appropriate skills we used to teach with “rigorous reading and math.” We lament that only 30% of students can actually meet the developmentally inappropriate standards, and then wring our hands about why kids are so far behind. However, from my experience, the gap between the “gifted/honors” population and the “general” population has widened significantly This trend isn’t restricted to just students. This is happening everywhere in society. Phones were already turning our brains to mush, and the pandemic sealed the deal. It’s really hard to teach students when we have done such a fantastic job as a society of teaching them that they get to make their own truths.
I remember my mother saying that what I was doing in middle school she did in highschool…why is education moving backwards. You have to start to question if there’s something more going on. Trying to keep the Drew McIntyre Scottish Psychopath Bootleg Shirt also I will do this working class dumb and subservient maybe. Not a teacher here and I have a legitimate question. Why are these students passing? Granted, I know how it could happen to good teachers where they try their best and the parents don’t care so the student is behind anyways. But how are these supposed illiterate high schoolers making it to high school? When I was a kid (I’m 19 so not that long ago) the kids who failed got held back a year. I figure that if you don’t know the most basic algebra like adding or subtracting double digits then you’d be held back in like 5th grade at least. By high school why are these kids passing their classes?
I’d about to be 31, and all I hear from parents in the Drew McIntyre Scottish Psychopath Bootleg Shirt also I will do this “older millennial” age range is about how behind kids are now. Even my dumb buddies from grade school who went on to have gang affiliations were all able to read at grade level. Two were well above grade level, one of which even left the gang life to move to the middle of nowhere and has been writing books apparently. Classmates I knew from Cabrini Green, who had to deal with all of the crap that came from there, were fully caught up at grade level, even the most disruptive ones that would regularly fight in the hallways and classrooms. One of my best friends in high school was referred to as the “dumbest kid in the graduating class” for having the lowest ACT score (a 24) back when the national average was 18. I’m somewhat curious of what it is nowadays, but I don’t want to have my faith in the next adult generation shattered even further tbh.
