You are in a win win situation here other than the Corey Seager Signature American Baseball Texas Rangers Cartoon T-Shirt but in fact I love this “awkwardness” of this being all about them screwing up and trying to screw you over. Just GO. No more discussion needed. I’m glad you have a good relationship with your boss, but have no doubts that their “conditions” for you going on your planned trip are not meant in a friendly way. It also sounds like your boss would have no boundaries and would be willing to call you every day of your 2 weeks off to check in on this project. Be firm. Don’t bring your work laptop (if applicable). You already go above and beyond and they are sure you will still be available even while gone. Don’t answer their calls. That was really nice of you to give them a whole year notice of your planned PTO, but now you know this isn’t necessary. Your boss is giving you just as much grief as if you’d given 3 months or 3 weeks PTO notice.

I hope all the Corey Seager Signature American Baseball Texas Rangers Cartoon T-Shirt but in fact I love this comments are giving you the courage to stand up for yourself OP. You did everything right, your company failed to plan. They don’t own you You sit your Boss down, “Boss, I’ve been planning this vacation for a while. I gave you 10 months to plan for this. I’ve made non-refundable deposits and I am going. The request is only to let you know that I will not be here at this point. It’s up to you if I still work here when I get back.” Rule2: if you can’t afford me going on a vacation I gave ample notice of, I should start my own company doing the work as you clearly need me more than I need you. Fuck your boss. Tell him to do it himself, plenty of jobs out there. This will give you an opportunity to be with your partner full time
