School really tests your ability to follow instructions and memorize information. I knew kids who got straight A’s who never had a critical thought about anything in their lives. I used to be a straight A student yet I could not for the Biz Nasty Paul Bissonnette caricature Phoenix Coyotes signature Shirt and by the same token and life of me figure out how to get a chair trough a door untill my dad showed up and turned it a quarter, you know so that the back that is too wide isnt a problem. I work in IT in a university and some of the most stupid requests we get are from who you should consider the smartest. I once had a request by a professor who had three PHD’s several masters and was considered an expert in Physics come up and ask for a wireless access point to be installed in a radio isolation room that was made to isolate as much em and radio signals as possible.
Biz Nasty Paul Bissonnette caricature Phoenix Coyotes signature Shirt, hoodie, long sleeve, v-neck tee
When I said that installing a access point would defeat the Biz Nasty Paul Bissonnette caricature Phoenix Coyotes signature Shirt and by the same token and purpose of the room which was expensive to make it took him 5 whole minutes to understand where I was coming from I like to call myself an intelligent dumbass. I have a lot of knowledge. I performed really well in school until I had to actually study and focus. I’m really good at problem solving if I have time to do it, and I can take apart and put together, and fix almost anything I decide to if I have the tools. I can do complex math and have a ridiculous vocabulary. I’m also slow on the uptake, tend to get distracted and go down rabbit holes, and can’t tell if people are joking half of the time, nor can they tell if I’m joking. My brain mixes up words in perpetuity even though I know which one is correct. I’m forever calling my stepmom my MIL and I don’t even know I’ve done it until it’s out of my mouth. There’s a bunch of words I do that with. I truly seem like a dumbass, but then I’ll drop extensive knowledge/understanding of complex biological processes or the science behind how a modern diesel engine decreases emissions. The other day, she asked me what D-Day was. We’ve shared a hotel room that cost $250, and she thought it would cost $250 each because there was two of us. She has turned left on red. She failed her drivers test twice because she didn’t know what yield meant. She overheated in my moms car because she couldn’t figure out how to turn the heat off [August, in Texas].
I see no relevance unless one wants to argue that an honors student is more likely to more closely examine and consider their actions even for familiar actions vs a remedial student who wants to rush through a chore. I’d rather eat off a plate washed slowly and with care (wash and rinse the Biz Nasty Paul Bissonnette caricature Phoenix Coyotes signature Shirt and by the same token and bottom, please) than one who thinks faster is better. She could be a perfectionist and takes her time doing everything right because she wants it to be up to her standards. My ex was like that. She was really smart, but was so slow at everything. Everything she did was perfect though and she would get frustrated when it wasn’t. Even her handwriting was so neat and perfect. Sounds like she is a deductive (step by step) thinker but you are an intuitive (💡!) thinker. My wife and I are like this.

Some information about Biz Nasty Paul Bissonnette caricature Phoenix Coyotes signature Shirt
I find people who have great memories tend to excel quite easily in the Biz Nasty Paul Bissonnette caricature Phoenix Coyotes signature Shirt also I will do this acedemic world and are able to get great marks and jobs for it. But if you ask them something they can’t memorize and they’re lost. I did IT in school and it was more about concepts and understanding. How to take what they taught you and apply it to a different problem. So many other students tried to memorize how to solve specific problems, or how to code specific things instead of understanding how it works. So when the tests changes things around they got lost. It was really eye opening to me. I see this a lot on Reddit and people post very stupid math questions, mainly because it’s being taught through memorization instead of teaching concepts and understanding. I remember one where the question was expand 5×3 and solve. The kid put 3+3+3+3+3 = 15 and got it wrong, since the right answer is 5+5+5 = 15. I had a similar issue taking HS programming classes, one teacher taught from the book and if your code didn’t match the teacher code you lost marks. Another teacher took the time to learn programming properly, would see we managed to do the assignment differently then the teachers book, then would ask us to explain our code which while it did what was asked he didn’t understand it properly. He was often learning more from the students then us learning from him.
Even in the Biz Nasty Paul Bissonnette caricature Phoenix Coyotes signature Shirt also I will do this corporate world I see so many people lose their shit when things change, because they memorized the process so when there is a small change they are completely lost. To me I can break down a process remove the step that is changed, slot in the new step, rebuild the process and then i’m good to go. Other people need to have everything explained to them again right from the beginning step by step even if 1 step changed. The difference between book smart and street smart. Getting good grades doesn’t guarantee the person function well in everyday life. My husband is super intelligent and what he does for a living is mostly lost on me. He’s in a highly specialized field. I greatly admire his intelligence. But sometimes I wonder how he manages to put a shirt on some days. Me, I’m good with my hands, have social skills, am creative and have a vivid imagination. I can’t wake up at a decent time or be consistent in my life. So there’s that. Thankfully when him and I combine our powers we make up a whole brain. My friend dated the valedictorian of his school, she had no common sense or common knowledge. Asked the dumbest questions. School grades don’t always translate into actually being intelligent.
my project manager/ chemE ex, is brilliant at the Biz Nasty Paul Bissonnette caricature Phoenix Coyotes signature Shirt also I will do this programming of million dollar machines…. and has the common sense of a squirrel. he does try to fix house things, because he believes he can figure them out. but , for example, the equation for torque on the bolt doesn’t matter if it’s frozen and can just be hacksawed off…. which is what i did in 5 minutes after he suffered for over an hour. growing up, i was my jack of all trades dad’s assistant …. i know all the tools and how to use them, but i can’t math. but if brute force works, we don’t need the math. I had honors classes in high school, but I wasn’t top of my class. I did enough work to get decent grades, and I didn’t stress about anything but a couple of classes where I had to put in a lot of effort, because it didn’t come easily. I also grew up poor and neglected, so my common sense/creative problem solving tends to be better than a lot of folks that are on paper much smarter than me.
It doesn’t mean that makes me smarter than a brain surgeon or a rocket scientist. But it does mean that I have been floored by people who had impressive education and backgrounds didn’t know the Biz Nasty Paul Bissonnette caricature Phoenix Coyotes signature Shirt also I will do this most basic of things, like DON’T COMPLETE THE CIRCUIT when jumping a car, when the toilet starts to overflow, you can turn the water off using the shut off valve, or if your parents cosigned your student loans, you not paying them can affect their credit. Sometimes very smart people are smart in a narrow field. Sometimes people that aren’t necessarily geniuses have a wide range of knowledge. My wife cant figure anything out, but she has focus. I am amazing at problem solving, but I have ADHD and sometimes go days at work doing nothing when I’m really behind. 476 more repliesMy favorite example of this is Dr. Ben Carson, the attempted politician. He is/was maybe the single most talented surgeon on the face of the planet who always whole heartedly believes that the pyramids were built by and for ancient aliens to store grain.
Honestly, I’ve noticed they tend to keep thinking of their problems/tasks while attempting to do things they SHOULD care about more but don’t. My wife’s uncle is like that. MIT grade. Chemical engineer. Tenured professor at a prestigious college. Probably one of the Biz Nasty Paul Bissonnette caricature Phoenix Coyotes signature Shirt also I will do this smartest people on the planet. But he’s limited on his “normal life” abilities and extremely limited on social interactions outside of his field or hobbies. Some people are just built differently. My parents are opposites this way. My mom is super smart, but there are several gaps in this. She is not good at mechanical thinking. My dad is probably dyslexic (he is not stupid at all, but was bad at school) but very mechanically inclined. It goes beyond this, but I would say they complement each other. Barely anyone is well rounded this way The most obvious answer is that you were just lazy in school while she wasn’t. If that’s not the case and you genuinely tried your hardest than you probably just think you’re smarter than her.
Men tend to think they’re smarter than any woman, you can put a male high school drop out in a room with a female physicist and he’s going to think he’s smarter. He might use phrases like “street smarts” or “common sense” but the Biz Nasty Paul Bissonnette caricature Phoenix Coyotes signature Shirt also I will do this bottom line will be that he thinks he’s smarter somehow. Another theory is that she’s dumbing herself down to placate your pride, we’ve noticed that men get pissy when we’re more intelligent. It’s often easier to just play dumb rather than deal with that nonsense. There may also be an element of weaponized incompetence at play, my husband genuinely believes I can’t figure out how to properly load our dishwasher. I’m really good in studies and at work… I suck at home, I sometimes I feel like an idiot because I don’t know how to do some simple stuff or take a long time to realize how to do it!
Is like a tiktok of a guy who has several titles, he is good at his job, but was hours checking why the Biz Nasty Paul Bissonnette caricature Phoenix Coyotes signature Shirt also I will do this light in a room didn’t work… the lightbult was not screwed in properly! My SIL has three degrees, two of which are masters, mountains of debt, no hope to ever buy a house, or a car, or even retire – ever – for that matter, but she will look down her nose at blue collar folks who make 100K a year. Degrees and credentials just means that you can follow directions. There are brain engineers and rocket surgeons who don’t believe in evolution, take the Bible at its word and voted for Trump. They aced all of their exams in college but obviously possess a degree of stupidity that can’t be reconciled. In a nutshell don’t use their academic achievements as proof of their intelligence. Does she work an intense job that leaves very little mental energy afterwards? I feel like a lot of the “my doctor/lawyer/engineer friend has no common sense” stories always leave out how exhausted they are after working a billion hours a week
What do you mean by slow? Do you mean she’s clueless about some things? Does things more slowly? Does things you find dumb? I’m nowhere near that level, but I am a bit intelligent. I make a lot of stupid mistakes with basic things because my brain likes for things to be complicated and tries to solve problems that aren’t there. It doesn’t accept/like when things are simple. Just because you do something fast doesn’t mean you do it right. I’m slow at things because I have autism and am a perfectionist. I am often frustrated by people who do things quickly, because they invariably do them inadequately. When it comes to teamwork, like domestic labor, it’s not fun to have to redo a chore because your partner misses a bunch of steps. It’s better to do it right the Biz Nasty Paul Bissonnette caricature Phoenix Coyotes signature Shirt also I will do this first time.
My little brother is at MIT and I don’t think he could survive living on his own with his current set of skills. Like he doesn’t have a drivers license and Doordashes almost all his food with my parents credit card. We were vacationing at the Biz Nasty Paul Bissonnette caricature Phoenix Coyotes signature Shirt also I will do this beach once, and all beach houses look pretty similar. We were going for a beach walk at night because we’re odd eggs and also that’s when the crabs are a scuttlin’. As we set off the boardwalk my sister asks if we should mark our entrance so we can find the house again on the way back. My mom pipes up “It’ll be easy, it’s the one right under the moon.” (Where we were standing the moon was directly above the house.) And my dad just tossed back “Wait don’t you have a masters degree?”
I find it fascinating when street and book get together because you would think it would be a match made in heaven (strengths and weaknesses propped by the Biz Nasty Paul Bissonnette caricature Phoenix Coyotes signature Shirt also I will do this other etc) but it doesn’t appear to work out that way. On one hand, school success isn’t a great indicator of intelligence in my experience. The same kid with or without support from teachers and parents have drastically different school results. On the other, people who spent their lives investigating theoretical issues are obviously going to be less familiar with practical matters so they’ll look like a fish out of water when dealing with that kind of stuff. I grew up in rural Northern NY. My graduating class size was 50, and I was also an honor student. There was not a lot of competition. And I’m on Reddit, so how smart can I be, really? She could be neurodivergent but never diagnosed! My husband is super intelligent all throughout his childhood was in gifted classes even college kept a 4.0 gpa but daily tasks he gets so distracted and so slow never knows how to finish things,he believes he has undiagnosed ADHD.
My boyfriend got the Biz Nasty Paul Bissonnette caricature Phoenix Coyotes signature Shirt also I will do this highest grade in his year, is about to start his PhD and is insanely smart. The man thought Christmas trees only grew in the North Pole because of a Simpsons episode. My sister is one of the top lawyers in the country in her field. She thought that bungee rope came from the bark of the bungee tree. Went to school with a lot of kids like this. Many got full ride scholarships to places like Brown, Harvard, MIT, etc. But they couldn’t figure out basic tasks sometimes. It’s kind of fascinating. Two of the stupidest people I know are doctors. It has bothered me for a long time. Not because i think I am smart, I’m not. It’s because of how shockingly stupid these two individuals are. How can these people be so much smarter than me? It recently dawned on me (one of them just opened a practice smh) that they both have above average self-discipline. It’s kind of inspiring, really
People with rigid minds often struggle with that because there is no manual or syllabus to random life shit you just kinda gotta… embrace the Biz Nasty Paul Bissonnette caricature Phoenix Coyotes signature Shirt also I will do this jank and close-enough it. I know a woman who is a genius. Were talking best schools in the nation. Met two presidents bc of her achievements, full bright scholar you name it. Your wife is book smart;however, you are street smart and/or have common sense. While these aren’t mutually exclusive, sometimes people can end up solely in one category or another. I work in education and its usually the ones with Dr before their names that are the most incompetent. One of them even admitted to plagiarizing for her phd. I’ve seen many school smarts but not really that smart outside academics. I’ve seen people from Harvard but like psychopaths. But then again mental illness doesn’t discriminate Could be deliberate incompetence so that you do all the mundane daily tasks for her. My partner speaks four languages and has a PhD in Aerospace Engineering. He’s literally a rocket scientist. I always say that he can make an airplane, but he can’t make a sandwich. It’s definitely deliberate incompetence. I wondered this after photographing a phd graduation. There were two feet for the graduates to step on and a sign in front of the camera that said “Look here”. I felt like I was photographing toddlers. How can you be this smart but be so dumb? I’m pretty smart, have a master’s degree. I’m deeply Millennial. I trained at a warehouse job last week and this guy 15 years younger than me was showing us how to TIE A KNOT. It took me 10 minutes, a dozen tries, and I still looked like a complete fool. Like a toddler really fumbling with a shoelace. It was really embarrassing.
There are people who will take forever because they’re perfectionists, or they’re triple-checking everything (recipe says 2 eggs… they go get the Biz Nasty Paul Bissonnette caricature Phoenix Coyotes signature Shirt also I will do this eggs, check to make sure it’s 2. Pull out 2 eggs. Check to make sure it’s 2. Put the eggs away. When it comes time to use the eggs, check to make sure it’s 2.). This can also lead to freezing up or procrastinating. “I know I have to do this, but I don’t know every step, so I’ll put it off.” Some are easily distracted. Or prioritize things on the fly. Vacuuming the floor… oh right! The laundry needs to be put away. Puts away laundry. Forgets about vacuuming until the next time they walk in the room and see the vacuum. Some are just really good at their area of expertise or training, and lack the ability to work outside that. I’ve worked with plenty of head-down people who panic if asked to do something outside their norm. I’ve got friends who are brilliant until you ask them to fill a dishwasher or think about any practical day-to-day matter, and then they’re dumb as a bag of hammers. Then there’s just the different ways “intelligence” has been viewed over time. There are people who will never get math or science, but excel in the arts or languages or people skills or practical trades, etc.. But in school, they’re seen as “dumb” because long division never made sense to them. I look at an electrical problem with the eye of “oh man, I’d have to do a dozen things and maybe it will work.” and it will take me forever. Or I can hire an electrician who will say “no problem” and have it set up in an hour. Doesn’t mean either one of is smarter than the other, just different experiences and ways of looking at things.
I work with PhD professors and sometimes it’s hard to believe they have phd’s. What I’ve learned is that they have very specialized intelligence in their field, but basically lack smarts in anything else. Yes, I will remind you of how to do basic computer task for the Biz Nasty Paul Bissonnette caricature Phoenix Coyotes signature Shirt also I will do this 100th time. There are different types of intelligence. And in school, you know what’s expected of you, and you’re given the material to make it happen. If you have the time to work through problems, you’ll get good grades whether you’re really that smart or not. My analytical abilities are really rather good, but retention ability is balls. So, I tend to struggle at times simply due to bad memory, but if I have all the pieces, well I’ve been called a genius. I don’t see how speed of tasks correlates at all to intelligence. Being “slow” doesn’t mean taking a long time when referencing intelligence, it means not getting things, period. I’m an only child, was in the gifted program in elementary and middle schools, top scores on standardized tests, okay grades in high school because I mentally checked out and didn’t care that much, had honors in college and I take my time to do most things. I don’t see the point of hurrying for no reason. I point out being an only child because I did not compete with a sibling for time, whether it was chores, eating, or showers, so I’m much slower than people I’ve been around who did compete for time. She may have ADD, most girls with it who were high functioning never got diagnosed. I’m certain I have it, but don’t have any interest in testing right now. Maybe later, and this is fully a symptom.
Sometimes, people who are amazing in the Biz Nasty Paul Bissonnette caricature Phoenix Coyotes signature Shirt also I will do this books, lack skills in life. It is crazy to think about, because people usually do not realize this. The way I see it is that it is not as complicated to have people and life skills as it as to build a computer. Building a computer takes different thinking, and more critical, that not just anybody can do. I was wrong when I realized that this is not entirely true, as it is easy for me to have life and people skills, but it is just as easy for those people to build computers. To us, other things are easier, but to them, this is what is easier for them. I’m just kidding. Some, not all, brainy folks are unaware of their physical surroundings and how to interact with it. They are literally ‘inside of their head’ thinking.
