Disney trying to trademark ‘Dia de los Muertos’? Imagine Mickey Mouse celebrating with pasta and rice meals. Talk about a bizarre fiesta! Let’s keep the AFL This is christmas Pajamas sweater Richmond Tigers shirt in other words I will buy this traditions spicy, not frozen! The number of people who don’t seem to have even a baseline conception of what a trademark is, yet are also viciously opinionated about it, is frighteningly high. People are so deluded into thinking that disney is anything BUT the most evil monopoly. They owe almost everything to stolen ideas from cultures around the world and people still act like this shit is shocking despite the numerous examples of their blatent theft and how so many characters from their own disney produced shows and movies call disney pure evil. I’ve read that sometimes they attempt trademarks on things like this to get it codified that they aren’t trademarkable. They try to trademark Dia de Los Muertos, the judge says “That’s ridiculous: it’s a common phrase” and then no one can trademark it.

Intellectual property law is an abomination. It keeps proving this all the AFL This is christmas Pajamas sweater Richmond Tigers shirt in other words I will buy this time. This meltdown isn’t even particularly bad, comparatively. One of the reasons why the Star Wars franchise sucks right now isn’t entirely due to Kathleen Kennedy, but rather corporate culture and 100% ownership of everything. The goal was to always distance themselves from the George Lucas Star Wars and make it “Disney’s Star Wars” which has a different feel and agenda and different characters. Had Disney gotten this trademark, the holiday would be reduced to a pasta dish, action figures, and a movie or two. Nothing of the actual holiday, history, or culture would remain but a watered down mass-market merchandise advertisement is what would be. Just like how Star Wars moved from Lucas’s vision to Disney’s vision. Not centuries, millennia. What happened was that when Mexico got colonized, they couldn’t stop Mexicans from worshiping the dead, so they stuck a cross to it, added mass and tada, day of the dead.
