Turns out old George Dubya had 3 DUIs on his record and didn’t exactly wanna draw a lot of attention to that fact, especially with presidential ambitions. You mean old man Milton Hershey? Thats about as nice of a company owner as you could have possibly asked for. Anyway the union for the factory these days is a yellow union to the core, allowing shit like two tier wage systems. Its borderline illegal. They’ve given away literally all the benefits the last 30 years including cost of living, company pension, skyrocketing insurance and meanwhile last year alone Hershey captured 6% of the candy market and makes hand over fist. I’m honestly not sure how yellow union leadership survives… back in the day that was a problem that dealt with itself.

Complacency. The pre-2010 employees got very lazy. They still have their pension and higher tier wage, though they gave up cost of living for a nickel raise awhile ago. Most of these people had paid off houses and cars and yet didnt have enough savings to strike a month let alone longer so they caved hard. Covid has run most of them out and those that remain are only in it for one more contract or are waiting for a buyout. So I think that two tier system is going away. As for the rest idk. I mention Kellogg because their plant employees are the same union as ours. And Kellogg was more fair so I’m hoping we get a good outcome too.
