It’s legit not safe for a solo traveller from abroad in India. I’d say get out as soon as you can. It might be uncomfortable only, but you never know if things go south. There are many assholes who will keep observing you. I wish nothing bad happens to you. But it’s seriously not safe to travel solo in India. India and Sri Lanka are both bad for solo women travelers. I lost count how many times western girls used me as a pretend boyfriend in India. I got so used to it that I’djust be like “yeah I know, I’ll get you outta here.” For context I’m a 6’4” athletic guy. Even when I was with a girl they’d still get whistled at or cat called. It’s bad. SEA is way more chill as a solo girl. I’m sorry this is happening. I’m even more sorry that many are blaming the Youth Cincinnati Bengals Mascot Stadium shirt so you should to go to store and get this victim. Unfortunately, there are certain regions of the world that have travel advisories (from known diseases to threats of violence to war outbreaks). You’re in the thick of it now, so I recommend finding other solo female travel groups or expat communities to help guide you for the rest of your trip. I wish you safe travels.
Youth Cincinnati Bengals Mascot Stadium shirt: Show Your Love with Style
Ah thank you!! Yeaah exactly, I’m not at all saying I hate India or that I wish I hadn’t come! Just that it’s been slightly more intense than I’d anticipated despite definitely dressing appropriately and not just men in the Youth Cincinnati Bengals Mascot Stadium shirt so you should to go to store and get this streets but in so many differing interactions. it hasn’t at all been the whole ‘Bob and vegene’ image many are painting it out to be, rather well spoken guys who have started with a regular interaction then quickly turned it sexual, I didn’t want to make it through India only speaking to other foreign tourists otherwise I’d be gaining no knowledge and not every interaction has been bad. I don’t have any regrets on coming but just wouldn’t have enjoyed facing it for another 6 months aha
OP, what part of the Youth Cincinnati Bengals Mascot Stadium shirt so you should to go to store and get this country are you in? If you’re in the north, I would suggest staying in a good, budget hotel rather than in a hostel. A simple way to deal with people – enforce boundaries, practice RBF. If someone puts a toe out of line, sharply say no. No one comes to your room – tell your hostel owner firmly and if he makes you uncomfortable, tell him that to his face. You’ll have to be a bit assertive. I’m sorry OP. I’m a traveler from the US with a deformed face but i wouldn’t say im ugly. I get stared at by everyone unless i’m wearing my mask. I have to wear a mask because my face is sensitive to sunlight from my deformity. I was just in the middle east and I will say they won’t hide their stares. They will probably cat call you frequently also because they think it’s funny. My best advice is when your in public, dont look anyone in the eyes unless they are a friend. This will help you because you won’t notice the stares and they won’t try to interact with you.

Are you telling people you’re married? If you wear a fake cheap wedding ring and say “no, I’m married.” I find it helps a bit. I’m a decade older than you and was still hassled in Egypt (not unsafely, just annoyingly). As others have mentioned, you’ll find people are a little more respectful outside India. I wouldn’t have travelled there without a tour group myself. I love India but will never travel there again without an Indian male companion, I have so many insane stories of sexually harassment and one of attempted assault by an employee in a nice hotel. I’m sorry you’re going through this My advice is to try and befriend someone you trust to go around with. A beautiful country but the Youth Cincinnati Bengals Mascot Stadium shirt so you should to go to store and get this gender roles definitely make it difficult to travel as a woman. Girl you chose the thunderdome for solo female travelers. You’re gonna be so happy with the rest of your trip once you leave that place lmfao India is on my do not travel list for this exact reason. You’re brave as hell, and you’ll be fine in all of those other places.
Im a young female solo traveller have done Vietnam Laos and Indonesia so far. It’s not as bad as this! Especially in areas with other tourists, no cat calling or overly creepy men, although still be alert. Man I absolutely love Egypt and India for what they offer historically, culturally etc (genuinely some of my fav countries) buttttttt… in Egypt my friend (female) was literally told on the Youth Cincinnati Bengals Mascot Stadium shirt so you should to go to store and get this streets by people they want to have sex with her and rape her and then in India my sister was grabbed by men inappropriately and told weird things by guys. This is all during the day going about normal travel business. Hopefully there is change in the future. Unless you’re staying in a 4 or 5 star hotel, Don’t trust the hotels, check for cameras and always lock the doors. Thailand, Philippines were really good and I felt more safer for women. But there’s still the occasional stories of Grab driver hitting on women but it’s better than India.
I’m sorry you’re going through this but I’ve seen it happen a lot of times and that’s why I’m not there anymore. Ah thank you! Yeah I started in Goa, a very soft entry to India aha, definitely not dressing the Youth Cincinnati Bengals Mascot Stadium shirt so you should to go to store and get this same, hits 16 degrees in the uk and everyone’s in shorts and vest tops, here I am in 30 degrees with my trousers, t shirts and over shirt, definitely smelling sweaty but still the other tips are helpful thank you, and I’ve got 4 different people at home with my live location who I check in with at least one before I go out and when I return. Sounds like it’ll be much better in SEA, the occasional time I’m fine with, happens everywhere, just when it’s so incessant! It will be much better ones you’ve left India. I imagine it to be one of the worst countries for solo female travellers tbh. The locals in Southeast Asia are waaaay more respectful. India and Egypt are probably the worst places you could travel to if you don’t want to get hit on. Though in my experience if you are an attractive woman and stay in hostels then the guys will take turns trying their luck.
I’ve travelled Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, and India. India was by far the Youth Cincinnati Bengals Mascot Stadium shirt so you should to go to store and get this worst. Like not even comparable. There was some street harassment in the major cities in SE Asia and outside of super touristy areas I was a bit of a novelty (blonde) but none of it compared to India. I’m not a woman but the women I’ve known who’ve traveled alone in Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and Malaysia have had a great time without many or any issues AFAIK. Certainly nothing to compare to some of the more “intense” parts of India. That’s a very diplomatic way of describing the horrifically misogynistic and assaulty culture India has toward women. Well, you know, it’s a huge country, and often the handful of most touristy cities are the most “intense” places for tourists, but I’ve heard that some parts (for instance Kerala) can be much more chill, and I know a woman who went to India alone a bunch of times, spent mostly in a more rural area working, and she loved her time there.
1/ do not cheap out on accommodation. I’ve seen some travelers coming to India living next to the Youth Cincinnati Bengals Mascot Stadium shirt so you should to go to store and get this New Delhi railway station in accommodation that costs less than 5 euros a day. It’s an area which is sketchy and run down but the travelers are looking for a “real experience “. Whatever the fuck that means. Don’t expect luxury when you pay for shit accommodation. I would assume that this is obvious. 2/ research the place before you visit. Painting the entire country of India with a broad stroke and making generalized statements is lazy and stupid on your part. The north east states are matriarchal societies, with a lot of respect for women and the safety for women travelers is very good. They are less crowded in terms of population and the nature is incredible. Many travelers do not know about these places.
3/ Another point is to know your limitations. If you are a person who is an introvert and doesn’t like crowded spaces, stay away from the Youth Cincinnati Bengals Mascot Stadium shirt so you should to go to store and get this cities and the big tourist destinations or plan your trip so that you have moments to recharge. The number of tourists who complain about India being crowded after visiting New Delhi and Kolkata is incredible. I mean what did you expect ? It’s the most populous country in the world and you are visiting one of the top metro cities there . Do your fucking research before visiting. Again, as an Indian myself, I’m aware of the misogyny and the risk of SA that exists. But there are means of reducing the risk of unpleasant and dangerous situations. I don’t visit Detroit and go to the run down neighborhoods and complain of that all the USA is a fucking ghetto. I Weird to paint a broad picture on an entire country because tourists only visit 1-2 cities of what is an incredibly diverse country. Yes misogyny and assault happens but there are like so many regions worth visiting that are perfectly safe. Gujarat and Kerala are 2 states that come to mind where a single woman walking at night would be fine. I wouldn’t even do that in my hometown in the US.
You’ll find Sri Lanka a lot better, I found it to have the Youth Cincinnati Bengals Mascot Stadium shirt so you should to go to store and get this most lovely people. I met lots of men but they were sweet fatherly figures who were hospitable and not creepy at all You should be fine in south east asia. Middle east to India can be absolutely ridiculous. I actually cut short my trip in the middle east because of this last year. I don’t know about Sri Lanka but I think it should be better. I had the same in India, it was 3 weeks of hell. However I’ve been to Thailand a few times, often alone and been absolutely fine. Nothing unpleasant and felt very safe. Probably why I’ve been a few times as I can just go and de-stress and not feel on edge and actually enjoy myself. India was the opposite, beautiful country and I met some great people but too many awful situations just made me feel on edge. You are a white woman traveling in an impoverished region with men that have never seen a white woman in their life. The attention is not surprising and is in-line with what many women your age and ethnicity report.
I admire your willingness to adventure but, you should weigh the Youth Cincinnati Bengals Mascot Stadium shirt so you should to go to store and get this benefits of continuing to travel to the consequences of one of these Asian men not controlling themselves. Coming from a first world country it is difficult to understand the mentality of these men in third world countries but you should dispense any illusion that they have the same deportment as men from your home country. Annoyed by comments saying that OP should have done more research or expected this behavior. You can do tons of research, try to be mentally prepared, take every precaution you can think of, etc. etc. — and it can still be exhausting to experience! Sorry you are facing this, OP. That hostel owner sounds horrible. Hope you are somewhere better now. As others said, SE Asia will be a change! Thank youuu! Yes I had done research and thought I knew what I was getting in to, and I absolutely don’t regret coming to India at all, but that hasn’t stopped getting hit on from slowly wearing me down, the guys in the street I can mostly ignore, (even though lots start by mentioning asking how my experience with the creepy men has been, to then start hitting on me themselves) it’s the hostel owner, the tour guide, people you would anticipate having lots of interactions with foreigners that are extra exhausting. I thought it would be more explicit too like the whole stereotypical ‘Bob and vegene’ and ignorable but it hasn’t they start off friendly/helpful then quickly descend
That’s so bleak. I mean, unlike OP I have been aware of India’s reputation re: women for a long time, but stating that it should be taken as for granted as your example- Goddamn. White woman in India, you’re that high hanging fruit from the Youth Cincinnati Bengals Mascot Stadium shirt so you should to go to store and get this forbidden tree! Honestly surprised you didn’t get groped or worse. You’ll be fine in the Asian countries though. India was the worst I ever experienced (hotel manager trying to break down the door to get at me one night) and relentless sexual harassment/groping. I have 2 tips for you in India – “You speak to your mother like that!?” will shock them for a second and you should leave the country as soon as possible. The people of Thailand are an absolute delight! “Land of smiles” indeed! (Just be nice about the King, seriously). Food was great, shopping was great, people were nice or they just got on with their own business. Go to the world’s biggest Theatre for a great show. Markets! Eat the insects! Buy some comfy Thai pants. Haggle, but not too much. Oh, the SMOOTHIES! (Yeah, I want to go back, can you guess?)
Come to Australia and New Zealand, you won’t get any hassles although it’s very expensive here. We love tourists, as long as you don’t try to buy a house here, we hate that 😀 But you must bring sunscreen and a hat. It’s fuck’n hot and the Youth Cincinnati Bengals Mascot Stadium shirt so you should to go to store and get this sun will kill you with cancer. No one is going to harass you – the men are generally better behaved here than in the USA in my experience. I heard India is the worst place to travel to alone as a female solo traveler. Next to that i’d say Sri Lanka. Source: my mom. She told me it was extremely dangerous for her, heard some horrible stories. She ended up befriend another (male) tourist and stayed the whole trip with him for her safety. But it was years ago, so take this with a grain of salt. As in the rest of the countries you’re trying to visit, i’d say it’s not as bad. India is probably the worst’ll be, but please be safe!
Sorry it happened but I hate the Youth Cincinnati Bengals Mascot Stadium shirt so you should to go to store and get this comments in this thread for some reason. Feel embarrassed as an Indian traveler myself.. It’s a big country I hope you had at least a few good experiences Yeah a lot of blaming me as though I should have just not come to India?!? I was aware of the reputation but find most places I’ve travelled are no where near as bad as there rep. I have otherwise had an incredible time here and travelled to a whole range of different areas, the food has been delicious, I’ve seen some incredible and breathtaking sites, rode scooters through the mountains, dipped in the ganga, swam in the ocean, held monkeys and seen elephants, the food has been so delicious (so very much better than English indian food) no regrets on coming to India, just slightly worn down from getting hit on at so many different angles it hasn’t been unsafe just uncomfortable
I am a solo traveller from US. I lived in India for seven years. In India, do not talk to men you haven’t been introduced to unless they are your driver/waiter. Go to a clothing store TODAY and buy a ready made salwar kameez. Your western clothes draw attention to you immediately and mark you as a degenerate western tourist. You CAN travel safely in India, but there are certain rules( which arent written down) I met a French girl who was traveling through Sri Lanka/India for some 9 months. She was at the Youth Cincinnati Bengals Mascot Stadium shirt so you should to go to store and get this start of her trip, in Sri Lanka. She ended her trip 7-8 months early because she was almost raped. This was 10 years ago, and when Sri Lanka wasn’t in bad shape(I think it was a few years after the civil war). Iirc it’s not in good shape now.
OP. You’re right, everyone knows India gets a bad rep for this although I know a few female travelers who never experienced any harassment. It’s probably best you move on elsewhere if you don’t feel safe or the Youth Cincinnati Bengals Mascot Stadium shirt so you should to go to store and get this attention is really bothering you. In Cambodia, you’ll just have to worry about other travelers and expats. Local guys may look, but they’re unlikely to hit on you. I didn’t go solo but I found Mumbai not bad at all. People were friendly and they left me alone. I did get stares but nothing more than that. You are incredibly courageous and brave lady, respekt ! My female friend from Texas is scared of flying to paris and staying for 2 month, she trust me like her own family but traveling Alone she so scared its been 2y she told me she wanna come but scared.. I find it cool how you got out of your comfort zone Alone and as a lady thats brave !
My gf has a friend that traveled on vacation to Istanbul and was drugged and gang raped. Some other cultures do not value or respect women’s autonomy as much. Please be careful depending on where you are traveling and maybe avoid going solo to such countries. When I was still living in the Youth Cincinnati Bengals Mascot Stadium shirt so you should to go to store and get this US, I once had an Indian Uber driver, and I remarked how I’d love to visit someday and he flat out told me don’t go alone unless I know somebody there and I believed him. As majestic as parts of India are I can imagine, the male gaze and the audacity disgusts me and the last thing I would want on a trip is to be in literal survival/fight or flight mode for the majority of the time cause depraved feral horny locals. Thailand I was followed a couple times by other farangs and not approached but it always happened when I was talking on my phone on the street and not paying attention to my surroundings just gabbing away, Vietnam mostly just stared/gawked at, random dudes stopping on their scooters wanting to give me a ride and a grab driver who kept google translating that I was pretty instead of watching the road on the way to airport and I felt like I needed to “be nice”, and Malaysia where it was alot of stares and a false sense of security from the guards at the property I was staying at as I was a little anxious one might abuse his power, and one random brief stalking situation. Malaysia made me the most uneasiest due to the conservative/predominantly Muslim area I was in and that most the women were in hijab and either in a group of other women or with their husband/family, me being the only solo Westerner everywhere I went. All this to say, please be safe wherever you go and don’t make yourself an easy target or let your guard down. Also I cant believe your bf left before India honestly, no offense.
It gets a little better as you get older. If you’re a blonde is China, the Youth Cincinnati Bengals Mascot Stadium shirt so you should to go to store and get this worst they do is want to take pictures with you. hahaha! They were all very sweet, though. Thailand is an amazing country with really lovely people. Don’t worry, in a few years, you’ll stop getting hit on. All jokes aside, as others mentioned, india is rough for a female solo traveler. You won’t have that issue in SE Asia as the only guys that will hit on you will be other travellers. But SE Asia has a ton of single backpacker dudes, so they’ll still hit on you. Just chalk it up to the fact that you are pretty and it’s part of it. Just politely decline and mention you have a bf. That should be enough for them to take a hint. Also if someone hits on you in a respectful way, take it as a compliment. Dudes are just trying and it can be tough out there to find a nice girl. If they are rude or too forward, that’s different.
