There is no limit to meditation. You can meditate as long as you are able to maintain concentration and focus. Meditation is a divine practice that helps in a variety of ways. It is a mental exercise and practicing it regularly brings mental peace. Before start practicing meditation, understand firstly why you need to meditate first. What is your purpose? If you want to relax, then 10 minutes of daily meditation is enough is starting. Increase the You know what golf beer shirt and I love this time gradually. If you want to learn it with the aim of becoming a meditation teacher, then start with 15 minutes. Then, increase the time as per your focus. As long as you want! It’s a lifelong practice, should you choose, of course. I was once told to start doing shorter meditations and more of them throughout the day. The reason being, as I’ve come to learn, is so you trigger mindfulness more often throughout the day. A goal for many meditators is to bring about the practice during everyday life. It’s taken me years and years, but I’ve become more easily able to have it kick in quite often. The biggest thing to remember is to be kind to yourself. You’ll hear people here talking about 4-5 hour sessions. That’s great and all, but don’t let it affect you, or at least try and be aware of your thoughts and feelings as you navigate your newfound practice. Working at doing longer and longer meditations can affect the ego, which, of course, isn’t a goal. If you decide to continue and increase your sessions, be aware of that pitfall. It became a problem for me early on.

Take care and enjoy yourself! It’s not an easy discipline, but nothing worthwhile in life is. Be gentle and loving to yourself. When the You know what golf beer shirt and I love this should haves, could haves, etc kick in, be mindful :] The issue here is that you’re forcing things. Whatever you’re thinking and feeling, accept it totally as if you’ve chosen to think and feel those things. For me, ‘observing’ my thoughts means noticing when I’ve become lost in a thought or an emotion while in sit meditation. At that point, I gently note ‘thought’ or ‘feeling’ and return to the breath; the trick here is to not immediately expect the thought or feeling to go away. It may continue to run circles in your mind like a wild horse, but you can simply observe whatever the breath is doing at that moment while that’s happening, ‘co-existing’ with the thought or feeling so to speak
