My mom sold makeup when I was a kid (funny because she didn’t even wear makeup), but she let me take all the extra samples and I would have so much fun putting it on. It was like art. I would lose track of time because it was so enjoyable. I was like 5 years old and nobody even saw me with it on, it wasn’t for anyone else but me. That started my lifelong love of makeup. Most of us don’t wear makeup to look good for society, we wear it because we genuinely enjoy it, for ourselves. So don’t let anyone get you down for doing what you love.

I used to paint my nails to cope. I’d sit there for hours doing nail art and experimenting until I calmed down. If I have a depressive episode, I get up every morning, have a shower and put my make up on. Even if I spend the day on the couch. Sounds like a jackass. Sometimes I put makeup on and then take it off. I enjoy makeup videos also. It’s a valid creative hobby or self care activity and in no way sad.
