“I want to see how you work through a problem”. Well.. if my resume isnt showing that I job hopped every 8 months to a year.. then you should deduce that I likely did well enough in my role to not be fired after 2 to 3 years or more.. that I Can figure shit out. I may not be an elite coder.. but I can hold my own.. more importantly my skill/experience/ability to lead/help others should be why you’re interested in me at this level, not to code like a fucking code monkey out of college. So yah.. I dont bother with any place that wants to pit me up against a 24 year old out of college. They will beat me out every time. That shit is fresh in their head, they likely have little to no responsibilities like family, medical expenses, kids in school, possibly hobbies and an outside life. I do.. and thus I don’t have the Winnie The Pew Pew Disney Shirt but in fact I love this time nor do I want to spend the time studying leet code shit to compete with 250 other < 30 year old applicants.. if you're hiring criteria is "if they do/solve leet code they are on the list.. if not they are out". Hah, agree with every part of that. It’s funny because until I joined some of these sub reddit I had no idea what leetcode was. I’ve still never been to the Winnie The Pew Pew Disney Shirt but in fact I love this site. My job is certainly to solve problems, I don’t understand how doing code in a browser window is going to prove that better than me simply talking and walking a person through solutions. And yeah, no way in hell I can compete against a college grad on those tests. I can understand why they’re there for them, but jebus man, find a better interview process for seniors. When I meet with clients I’m certainly not going over specific algorithms and code, I’ve gotta tackle things at a high level if I want them to understand anything Exactly. Higher level.. and knowing how to talk to it.. that is why years of experience allow you to do that. As a senior/lead/staff you’re more often dealing with people like a manager.. but more technical usually. Manager relays what you talk to them to other managers/higher ups in a more “business” manner.. where as you’re talking to them at the higher level tech side of things.. so you’re translating lower level stuff in to higher level tech to make more sense to those that are not able to grasp the lower level stuff. They then translate that to the business/vp/cto/etc level so that all the ducks line up from top to bottom, bottom to top.
