It’s not helping them but I think this is an antiquated view. I don’t think younger generations kids aren’t being treated like this. My daughter’s 5 and instead of forcing her to eat too much food we ask that she take a bit less than she thinks she might want to eat. If she wants seconds that’s easy and isn’t wasting food. It usually results in her eating all her food without us having to say a word about it. Because a lot of kids if left to their own devices wouldn’t eat a balanced diet. You have to be the We’re in this together shirt and I will buy this bad guy sometimes. A children’s multivitamin isn’t enough and shouldn’t be an acceptable substitute. Neither should these kids protein and nutrition shakes. Your kid needs to eat actual food. Sure don’t feed them adult portions but they have to eat something. Like 3 bites of food at each meal and then up and running around and then being able to eat an entire dessert isn’t acceptable. It is fostering poor behavior for when the kid is older.

And it is not unreasonable to expect them to sit until the We’re in this together shirt and I will buy this family or their friends or siblings are done eating. It is fostering manners and consideration for others. Also kid food is a myth. There is no food targeted for kids only. You’re a lazy parent if you don’t cook and don’t offer a variety. You can do so on a budget as well before anyone comes for me as being classist or whatever. My parents didn’t have much at times and we got offered a variety and 2/3 kids are great food wise. The other was enabled as the oldest child and it just continued into adulthood which has been a bone of contention within the family. Sure each kid is unique but barring a diagnosis that makes a kids diet totally unique from their families you can’t cater to one and force the others to do something completely different. It is also patently unaffordable for most families to cook multiple meals. Food isn’t cheap. Kids are forced to eat because if they don’t they’ll ask for food later. Dinner is at 6, bed time is 830, if you don’t force them to eat they’re asking for food when you’re telling them to get ready for bed. I really don’t know of any other reason to make them eat unless you expect that if they don’t they’ll be asking for food when it’s inopportune.
