Americans don’t trust the Vintage Classic David Gilmour T-Shirt But I will love this government, introducing universal care would most likely have to be national and most are distrusting of big government. Removing for-profit healthcare (and especially for-profit health insurance) does significant good. However, free healthcare puts the state in a position where it starts financially weighing people’s lives, and there are cases where people’s personal dignity has been trampled. People don’t wanna pay for other people’s health issues. Oh you decided to smoke cigarettes now I have to pay for your lung cancer treatment or whatever. It’s a personal accountability thing I guess I’ve had America’s version of socialized healthcare– while serving in the US military. It’s abysmal, and if that’s any indication as to how this nation would run universal healthcare…please just don’t.

Americans have a bit different evaluation of human life. For example, shootings and murder, or no-go zones in population centers are normalized, while in random EU country, a murder, lost person or whatever is taken very seriously and there’s no general apathy towards human life like you’d have in US. With this, “everybody helping everybody” mentality is weaker as well – as people class themselves more as “have’s” and “have-nots”, and wouldn’t want to pay their taxes to support everyone. Add a lot of propaganda and lobbying from insurance companies (and medical system itself) and education system that’s been broken for nearly all of 300 years of US history and it’d be quite hard to sell universal healthcare. People can’t want a thing they don’t understand, and health is pretty precious thing, so they’d be quite unwilling to risk/experiment with it.
