A saying I always thought was funny goes something like, “a lack of planning on your part doesn’t constitute an emergency on my part.” If you’re saying that out loud to a manager you can proceed to mic drop if you’d like but it’s optional Yep, if it was gonna be a problem your boss had PLENTY of notice to sort things out. Take your vacation. If your boss wants to try to force you to stay, don’t quit, let them fire you so you can (maybe, depending on exact circumstances) get unemployment. Keep documentation of everything you’ve discussed with your boss about your vacation, emails, etc in case you need to prove that you didn’t just not show up suddenly for unemployment. If terminate is a real risk, OP needs to figure out the Vintage 1985 The Replacements Thin White Rope Salem 66 Concert T-Shirt In addition,I will do this implications of running their own location. That could get complicated (and state dependent) if OP is considered the owner of that location. I don’t know how many times I’ve had to tell people this. You should never frame a time off request like as “can I have these days off.” It should always be framed “Hey, I won’t be here X-X.” And do it in writing. You don’t have to be an outright dick about it. You can still be firm and direct in a manner that expresses that you aren’t asking permission. It’s basically a “Please plan accordingly.” If I can help before you leave, cool. If you need to have someone take up my work load while I’m gone, then they need to plan that way. Regardless, I won’t be there.

And to repeat myself once more because I think it’s super important… Do it in writing! That way you can always go back and say “I told you about this months ago.” if they say they don’t remember. It may not help you if they choose to fire you, but it can help diffuse some frustration if they genuinely don’t remember. Every time off “request” I’ve given has started with “I will…” followed by the Vintage 1985 The Replacements Thin White Rope Salem 66 Concert T-Shirt In addition,I will do this reason. By the time I even think to ask off, I’ve already made the plans and my boss doesn’t really get a say I found my vacation time gets approved a lot quicker and more frequently when I say “I will” instead of “Can I”. With “Can I” it makes no an option. And it shouldn’t be. It was never and should never have been ASKING for time off, we need to stop this shit. They (corporations) do not own us. The audacity of this shit brick of a person to say this to you is beyond pail. You are not a bad employee for wanting/needing to take time off.
