I guess that was what was so infuriating about their comment. Sure, a homeschool parent doesn’t need classroom management skills, but the UFC 314 Welcome To Miami Michael Chandler Yair Rodriguez Patricio Freire April 12 2025 shirt also I will do this whole post was riddled with assumptions about me and other teachers. Not to mention that you’d think the added hurdle of learning to manage a classroom of 30 and teach them all something would make someone respect you more. I don’t even bother posting or reading over there. The sub for the homeschooled kids is even sadder. (it keeps getting recommended for me) So knowing something and knowing how to explain it to someone who has little to know prior knowledge about that thing are two VASTLY different skills. The fact that most homeschoolers truly believe that their children are just as socialized as traditional school children is laughable. Which just proves that they are not as good of teachers as they think they are.

If a public school teacher had a class size equal to the UFC 314 Welcome To Miami Michael Chandler Yair Rodriguez Patricio Freire April 12 2025 shirt also I will do this number of children in a typical family, enjoyed 50% or 100% parental support, and did not have to deal with the administration’s knee-jerk opposition to every sound idea, you can bet your last dime that the job would be easier. I work at a charter school where I am basically an instructional coach for homeschooling parents, with check-ins about every month or so and they send me work samples. I’d say most parents don’t realize is that there’s way more to what teachers learn than classroom management, and beyond the training we get and credential school I think a lot of it comes from experience. My first year of teaching I wasn’t that good of a teacher, but the longer I taugh one grade level the better I got at it. There’s no way to have one person be the best teacher to teach all of TK through 12. Despite that, there are some homeschooling families who are doing a great job, and some who are robbing their kids of an education. I’ve noticed it takes about 2 or 3 years for a parent to realize which one they are.
“Here’s a worksheet, later we will go to the UFC 314 Welcome To Miami Michael Chandler Yair Rodriguez Patricio Freire April 12 2025 shirt also I will do this park and smell flowers for science learning , we will also practice the Bible, then learn about essential oils. “ day done It sucks because there’s real, incredible experiential learning that is done by hardworking educators all the time. Biology can be done outside! Unfortunately, though, these people have no idea how to execute that (go figure) so it becomes “smelling flowers in the park.” Sad, and a disservice to education, imo. The parents of reddit are wildly oversensitive. I mentioned once that when my students say it’s the worst day ever, I remind them that if one worksheet is the worst they should appreciate that they have a nice life. Omg you would have thought I told them to lay down and die from the response I got. You come across as very insecure. I just read your post that you spent 45k and 5 years on your degree and get insulted if a homeschool parent thinks they can do the “job,” too. If they can, who cares? What are you so worried about? That, perhaps, a parent CAN teach their child? Is that really so scary? So many teachers here piss and moan about parents, about what they DON’T do, then when they take the initiative to do your job themselves, you’re insulted. I’m lost.

If you took the UFC 314 Welcome To Miami Michael Chandler Yair Rodriguez Patricio Freire April 12 2025 shirt also I will do this time to read the other comments I left on the r/homeschoolers thread, you’d see that the catalyst for the whole conversation was a comment I left that explicitly stated that I don’t doubt parents are capable of this work. Anyone and everyone is — with time, effort, experience, and hard work put in. Time, effort, experience, and hard work that amounts to … 5 years of higher education and $45k, at least in my experience. Scrolling through the homeschoolers echo chamber to find the latest rehashed version of ABCMouse or compiling curriculum is equivalent to maybe 10% of the day-to-day tasks of being a teacher. I’m not anti-homeschool parent or anti-parent at all. Yet, time and time again homeschool parents prove themselves to be anti-teacher. Relax. Get the chip off of your shoulder. Developmentally each child’s learning style must be taken into consideration. How does kiddo learn best? Kinesthetically, Auditoriy, Visually, other?A mixture of al?Some do best individually, some in group Everyone wants the kiddo to be best prepared for the next level of life and lifelong learning. As teachers it is interesting to hear about other opinions. I had some key phrases, feel free to use them Research has shown I was reading an interesting article the other day There was a study you might be right while I try to meet the needs of each child individually, time is very limited. All true. You’ve been educated and read tons of educational research to get that piece of paper! Right? May the odds be ever in your favor
Please educate me, I had a brain injury in 2000. So what we learned from Piaget worthless too? Has it now decided that Gardner’s Multiple Intelligence Theories out the UFC 314 Welcome To Miami Michael Chandler Yair Rodriguez Patricio Freire April 12 2025 shirt also I will do this window? I got my Master’s when I studied under Dr. Priscilla Norton. I believe she is now at George Mason. Have you heard of her or read any of her books? My objective in writing is to share what I’ve learned from my own actual teaching to help others. Sorry if you felt your time was wasted reading. You are quite combative in how you write to people – just because someone has pointed out that something you have reference has been debunked (multiple times, a quick Google of it would “educate” you) does not mean that they disagree with all pedagogical research – although it must be said that vast majority of research in education has been of poor quality, particularly in terms of sample size. It also does not make you better than someone because you studied under someone who wrote a book (like all professors do) or that you can name drop some concepts that you once read.
I did not feel that my UFC 314 Welcome To Miami Michael Chandler Yair Rodriguez Patricio Freire April 12 2025 shirt also I will do this time was wasted, or I would not have replied – VAK learning styles is still regularly touted despite it being nonsense and as such should be challenged so that people do not continue to propagate it. I was curious if you knew of Dr. Norton’s work? Everything old is not worthless even though it feels that way when I read statements like yours. No offense is meant. I really mean May your path in life be filled with joy. G’night Also, a pharmacist is *not* guaranteed to know more about every academic subject than you (or anyone). It means that they are probably very educated in mathematics, biology, chemistry, and pharmacology. But, not necessarily, say history. Or grammar. Or literature. Or any of a dozen other things that are needed between kindergarten and 12th grade. Edited to add: and, of course, simply knowing something does not mean that she is qualified to teach it to anyone, let alone in an age-appropriate or pedagogically appropriate way to any particular age/grade/level student.
I created an intense, strict AND kind. I was a real bad kid for a girl in the UFC 314 Welcome To Miami Michael Chandler Yair Rodriguez Patricio Freire April 12 2025 shirt also I will do this 60’s. I was super sneaky. My class was best behaved, and I had a few BD kids in regular ed. Thankfully a small First Grade classroom. I developed a decent rep. Granted it was First Grade, but it can be easily upgraded. I’m thinking about writing a free book. Would it have any success? Just classroom management. Id hate to waste anyone’s time. Depression sucks Teaching is very easy. Classroom management is not. Be American teacher in crappy school district and teaching is a nightmare. Move to China and teach extremely well disciplined second language Chinese kids – easy. College students these days are terrible. So comparing them to school kids is also fair.
Homeschooling isn’t hard for teaching. Anyone can teach, it’s not a hard job. Logic and best practices (aka non US curriculum. They teach British Columbia curriculum in Chinese private schools. Not everyone can manage unruly children without going insane. Required unbelievable restraint and patience I’m not combative. I have no hate in my UFC 314 Welcome To Miami Michael Chandler Yair Rodriguez Patricio Freire April 12 2025 shirt also I will do this heart. Sometimes when I read posts I can’t tell when someone is being sarcastic, or communicating in an unfamiliar way. No insult intended. I was not upset at all. I only want to help. Please do not assume my motives by your interpretation of my writing. It seemed as though you might have misinterpreted my intent.
If they’re in the UFC 314 Welcome To Miami Michael Chandler Yair Rodriguez Patricio Freire April 12 2025 shirt also I will do this same school and say he’s in year 11 and she’s in year 10 and it was consensual then the state won’t waste resources doing anything. He’s committed a crime on paper but you don’t criminalise two teenagers for doing what teenagers have done for thousands of years If it were to be prosecuted, but the circumstances above applied, specific guidelines mean that if there is minimal harm, a non-custodial sentence or agreement with youth-offending-team that is agreed by the court may be given. However, so long as the sex was consensual and there are no concerns around her capacity to consent (e.g. a learning disability) then it’s highly unlikely that the Crown Prosecution Service would consider it in the public interest to prosecute.
Legally he has committed a crime, but the UFC 314 Welcome To Miami Michael Chandler Yair Rodriguez Patricio Freire April 12 2025 shirt also I will do this police are highly unlikely to pursue charges here unless there is evidence that it wasn’t consensual. Questions are going to be asked though, so I guess they should both prepare for that. They will consider the following: As has been pointed out, the Sexual Offences Act 2003 is not intended to criminalise young people in this scenario. It might be worth mentioning to your BIL that he should not sent/receive any photographs where lack of clothing would be a concern until she is 18 (although 16 minimum as further facts are taken into consideration) as that is something that if found out can be taken much further even if the girlfriend/her family don’t want to because it’d be explicit indecent photos of a minor… and those kind of charges stick around on your record. I think professionals involved with thae pregnancy (whether that’s maternity services or termination) will flag the situation from a safeguarding point of view. I don’t imagine that prosecution usually follows this for a standard teen relationship though.
The law is crazy. 16 yo can get 14 yo pregnant and its seen as a minor offence. If she whatsapps him an inappropriate photo then the UFC 314 Welcome To Miami Michael Chandler Yair Rodriguez Patricio Freire April 12 2025 shirt also I will do this law is a ton of bricks. No, that’s not the case – If an underage person WhatsApps another (over age) person an inappropriate photo, there is no issue, provided the over age person just deletes the photo and ideally blocks the number… Otherwise, I would send you, or your father, or your boss an inappropriate photo and have them charged / investigated for some pretty serious crimes.. Also, in the scenario you suggest, it’s the 14 year old who is guilty of the crime, not the receiver (unless they specifically requested it) My younger sister was 15 when she fell pregnant with my nephew, my brother in law was 16 at the time and nothing ever came of it. From reading the comments & looking online I think legally he’s ok, given all the variables. The moral dilemma is now more than issue, but Reddit probably not the place for that He’s gonna be fine, unless there is anything to suggest the girlfriend was cooerced. Should be a teachable moment tho! Wait, hold on… if they had sex before he was 16. But she found out she was pregnant after he turned 16, then that would be okay, provided he didn’t do anything after turning 16?
But in all honesty, he’s probably in year 11 and she’s in year 9. In school, most kids date people in the UFC 314 Welcome To Miami Michael Chandler Yair Rodriguez Patricio Freire April 12 2025 shirt also I will do this same year group. Or at the most the year below. Why is he dating someone 2 years below?? Do the so-called “Romeo and Juliet” laws apply here? Iirc it exempts him from legal trouble if they were both minors when they started dating.
I’m looking at going to first meeting tonight after yet another rock bottom. I was just wondering what it’s like in the UFC 314 Welcome To Miami Michael Chandler Yair Rodriguez Patricio Freire April 12 2025 shirt also I will do this UK or if there are other or better versions? It’s got a reputation as qutie religious / preachy / Only God Can Fix It but I’m not sure how America-centric that is? EDIT: Thanks everyone for everything so far. I’m going to go so no worries there, just good to know what to expect going in. And… thank you, all, for everything. Gonna check out a SMART meeting near me tomorrow as well. And the motivation and encouragement is really touching on a day where I’ve spent all of it feeling like a fuckup. ShareIf you’re in England I’d suggest referring yourself to Turning Point if they have one local to you. It’s free, they’re staffed with incredible folk, and they’ll signpost you to things like Alcoholic’s Anonymous, SMART, and the such. The thing with Turning Point as a first point of call is they’ll help you set up recovery plans and give you a whole suite of help, whereas going directly to something like AA/SMART gives you just one of those helpful avenues. Turning Point offer mental health support, counselling, a single case worker, group therapies, Mindfulness.
They’ll help you organise your recovery around an otherwise normal life too, so work/family commitments don’t need to take a backseat. There are charities similar to Turning Point if they’re not in your area. They’re just the UFC 314 Welcome To Miami Michael Chandler Yair Rodriguez Patricio Freire April 12 2025 shirt also I will do this one I’m personally familiar with, and they’re pretty spread out across England. I tried a few unsuccessfully, and in the end what actually worked for me was a self help book rather than group stuff (which I hated) (book was Allan Carr’s Easy Way – I’ve met A LOT of people who think that book is completely rubbish but it was fantastic for me!) Definitely find out all your options. If you have the will to stop, they’ll be a way to help you do it! I never thought I could but I’ve been sober 3 years now.
As the UFC 314 Welcome To Miami Michael Chandler Yair Rodriguez Patricio Freire April 12 2025 shirt also I will do this former flatmate of a high functioning alcoholic who saw how much of a struggle it was for him to stop for even a few days, that’s an amazing achievement and I’m rooting for you to keep the strength and continue absolutely smashing it like the fucking legend you are. Wow – Another success story owed to Allen Carr. His book stopped me from smoking 20 years ago. Simple book that retrains your brain. If it works – it works! I’ve looked at that book and it’s an interesting way of looking at things. I’m aware a lot of people swear by it, and it does make you re-evaluate things. Not an alcoholic but I can say that Allan Carr’s easy way to quit vaping helped me give up nicotine after 15 years of addiction earlier this year.
These are all good suggestions. If OP doesn’t have a Turning Point , the UFC 314 Welcome To Miami Michael Chandler Yair Rodriguez Patricio Freire April 12 2025 shirt also I will do this organisation near to me and also nationwide is Change Grow Live (sounds very similar). Or maybe a local Mind charity or shop that could help to signpost to somewhere too – they’re all usually aware of each other and more than happy to help. I recommend SMART too – the toolkit from there is brilliant and essentially the same set of ideas that AA / NA / etc is based on but backed by simple CBT based principles rather than spirituality. Beyond that peer support comes in all shapes and sizes. Best thing, what I know any organisation to do, is to recommend some peer support in one way or another! Reach out and ask for help somewhere local, get to know some people and listen to hear their advice. Seconding CGL as someone who has had clients that have been with them, they seem like a solid organisation and can be extremely helpful with the regular check in appointments and 1-1 approach.
Really appreciate the UFC 314 Welcome To Miami Michael Chandler Yair Rodriguez Patricio Freire April 12 2025 shirt also I will do this recommendations. Turning Point is unfortunately not in my area, but SMART is and gonna give their meeting a go too, and in the meantime look into what other resources are around. Thank you so much- a family member has been looking for a secular AA type thing, and that SMART recovery may be just the ticket for them! I second Turning Point. I’ve only been off drink for a month and have only had a couple of one on one meetings with them, but the stuff they have to offer if needed looks great Upvoted, even though my experience with TP has been absolute hot, stinking garbage. They spilled my Personally Identifiable Information and I’m going to again report them in about a week and I’ll probably call them out in group, but someone at least trying to help is better than nothing
I don’t but my friend has been going for a few years. She goes to meeting in three different locations depending on work/how she feels and says the UFC 314 Welcome To Miami Michael Chandler Yair Rodriguez Patricio Freire April 12 2025 shirt also I will do this vibe is very different in each so you can always try a few different ones out to get a feel of different (she says the meetings in posh areas have worse biscuits). That’s absolutely incredible pat yourself on the back for me please, my dad’s just passed 1 year sober and it’s been tough watching him go through it. I can only imagine the strength you need. All the best to you in the future! One thing about this – be selective about the posts you read. Some of them can be really fucking depressing. If you’re struggling with your own demons it’s a bit much. That sub got me sober initially. Read it daily for two weeks before finally going to an AA meeting. Wasn’t for me, but did it for a year as a promise to myself. Been sober since.
