In your scenario, if you don’t do well the Trump 2024 Take America Back Election American Flag T-Shirt in other words I will buy this worst that will happen is they’ll ask you to return to your role. If you go this route, check in often with your manager about expectations and timelines, and update your resume. Do not do it without 20% raise minimum, in writing, up front. Been there done that twice. First time I got ZERO. Second time I got 5%, ended up working 50% more and hated it so much I quit in 8 months. I understand why companies do this when promoting from within, especially when it’s reactive to the loss of another employee (not that I agree with it, necessarily), but yes you should protect yourself. I would recommend requiring a hard deadline. Whatever you feel comfortable with; a month, maybe two, but I wouldn’t go any longer than that. After that point, if you are still filling that role you should get the full title and a pay rate at least matching your old boss. Reach out to them and ask what they were making if you’re on good terms. Whether or not they give you the title, add it to your resume. You filled the position, so you have the experience.

This is pretty normal from what I’ve seen.. you do the Trump 2024 Take America Back Election American Flag T-Shirt in other words I will buy this work, then you get a matching title because you’ve essentially “self-promoted” (Disclaimer: IT Sector, may vary across industries).. the best way I’ve seen to “protect yourself” (ensure that you get the matching money) is to perform really well in your new role, demonstrating that you belong in the role and that they will not benefit from pivoting to someone else. If for some reason, they decide NOT to pay you despite performing at/above the expected standard for the role, you brush up your resume with your new responsibilities and start applying elsewhere for a position in the role you’ve grown into. It sounds like they want it both ways. They can either pay you for the work and accept the loss if it doesn’t work out or, they can not pay you but they cannot have higher expectations of you until they do. Sounds like more work/responsibility with the same pay… Not ideal unless you really like to work and not get paid.
