I think the Top baby I’m Fragile please handle with care bear shirt and I will buy this love for makeup YouTubers is slowly dying. Even the OG ones all got caught up in some drama and it’s like, you’re just supposed to do makeup was is Laura Lee sobbing on camera? And James Charles who stole others ideas and continues to abuse his fame. I can go on about this all day! I think the younger gen is more interested in skin care funny enough. I think it has moved to TikTok, I haven’t seen some of those “old-school beauty gurus” posting much beauty content on Instagram anymore. They need to be creative and the content needs to keep our attention for only 20s, I’ve also noticed that some of them use the same makeup look to create 10 different videos. I used to consume a lot as well, but now only occasionally when I want to see a review of some inspo on how to make a certain look (I don’t like TikTok really short videos, I’d rather watch a longer and older on on YT). I stopped consuming that stuff when everyone started using all the filters. Like I can’t see what your makeup looks like under all that blur, and what ends up happening is that the person will look the exact same in every video. One particularly bad offender (who still produces content today) ostensibly swatches all these foundations and other products, and ends up looking exactly the same in every video because of all the filters. It bores me.

I’ve been a beauty YT creator since 2010, and I once looooooved the Top baby I’m Fragile please handle with care bear shirt and I will buy this videos and community so much that it was my passion. Now, I only love the community. Videos are now too focused on new products and reviews and it bores me to tears. There’s no creativity or excitement about makeup looks or creating art, sharing fun, etc. Every video feels like an ad. I think the Beautytube space is more saturated now compared to the mid-10s, but I think a lot of the more popular beauty content is probably on TikTok and not Youtube. I also think there’s only so much you can do for content in regards to types of looks, techniques, and such, before it gets repetitive anyway. (Unless you’re someone like Lisa Eldridge who, along with being a professional + working makeup artist and brand owner, is very much into the history of makeup and such.) That said, someone new to makeup, or someone who stopped doing makeup for a while and wants to get back into it, may see that content and still benefit from it in a way that someone who’s been doing their own makeup for many years may not, even if someone has one or more videos on the same subject on their channel. (Obviously, if none of it resonates with you anymore, that’s a perfectly good reason to stop watching.)
